What's it Worth?? / Re: Louis Vuitton Wallets
« on: March 20, 2013, 11:34:53 AM »
I found a women's Louis Vuitton wallet in a unit I bought last week. The wallet appears to be the real deal. I went to eBay to try and find a value. No luck...there were thousands of them for sale and there were hundreds of different styles. Does anyone have experience valuing these high end wallets and purses?

Pictures?

Picker's Paradise / Re: Has anyone made any good picks lately?

I picked up an Armani blak wool overcoat at Value Village for $20.
From what I can tell its 1980's.  Sold for around $1500.
Found a like one selling for $200 and mine is way better condition.

Really doesnt matter.  I'm keeping it.   Been looking for years for an overcoat.
First one that has fit.

I wish i was a size 42-44.  Lots of clothes.   None for us skinny guys......

Don't cha hate that?!

I went to list a laser disk player today.   It had powered up and gave display.....but went to play disk and motor is out.

Got pair of bushnell binoculars a value village for $7.99.   I looked them up and looked like the $200 ones.
Researched better at home and they are the small ones you get free with big ones for $29.99.

Oh well. Can't win'em all.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Selling Store Cards on eBay
« on: March 12, 2013, 02:40:14 PM »
I was at Costco today and all the resturant gift cards were $79.99 for two $50 gift cards.
Then a guy at the table was promoting and if you bought four you got one free.
Divides down to $32 for each $50 gift card.

It would be a grind but you could make up to $180.  Realistically, with fees, postage....$40? $50?

Small furniture.  High end, vintage, antique End tables and chairs.

Car parts to classic's or dime-a-dozen cars.  Like Honda.....

Tires.    But people won't pay much for them.

Maybe MY math is wrong; I took $117 million in sales and divided by 6 million sales to get an average of $19.50 per sale.

I know a bunch of people that sell on Etsy.   One sells painting that are spendy but most sell crafts that are under $10.    And vintage items but from browsing people don't pay a lot.  Under $20.

I always check eBay and Etsy before posting vintage items on CL.  Seems etsy always has lower prices.

So you may ask why post on Etsy if eBay sells for more?
In my scientific analysis (guessing)..... It seems like stuff actually sells on etsy.   Where as they are listed over and over before selling on ebay.

Also, Etsy people tend to see themselves as in a community, helping other artistic types.....

New to Storage Auctions? / Cost of doing business
« on: March 10, 2013, 11:52:21 AM »
Continued from "Truck Rental Prices" in "The Dump"......

Running around getting free stuff.  Some new, some sitting in storage I've canceled.

Truck (U-Haul Van) ended up being $98.95 (day rate, 100 free miles) + $10 (Ins) + $10 (moving pds since I forgot mine!) + $1 (enviromental fee) + $11.73 ( rental tax) = $131.68 + $40 (gas) = $171.68

Thanks to GPS 'shortest route' I kept it under the 100 free miles.

Then add it $50 to pay help.  $17 buying help lunch.  $20 to have tech remove tires from rims......

Total is $258.68.

For this I have:
Set of swamper tires on rims: $600
Set of stock Ford rims: $40-$60 recycled
Four like new low pro tires: $200
Oak top 5-in-1 game table with torn felt on poker part: $200
Brand new, never used but old telemark ski's: $50?
1960's oak office chair: $100

Total: $1200. But in reality I need to move it FAST so may be less if people haggle, maybe $800

Now imagine this was a locker.  It could easily go for $300-$500 just because of he truck tires.
Add in cost of u-haul to low end of bid and your left with two options.

1) Only makeing $250
2) having to sit on it to get top dollar.

But don't forget 'buyers premium'.  Sales tax.  Dump fee's.
Now your left with only option #2.

Just a notice to all those wanting to start.   Just because you see $1200 in sellable goods, doesnt make it a good unit to buy.  you have have to look at the potential profit.

Over the years I've learned to add in all cost. Bid price. Gas. My time.  Locks.  Batteries.  Gloves.  Pissed off girlfriends.

Let me tell ya.   Doesn't matter how much profit you make on a unit if the auction is on her birthday.  You've already lost just by going......   ;D

I have one great Dealership stories but none that top my first job at  garden store.

They had me unloading pallets with one of those huge, can lift a car, fork lifts.
No training.  Illegal for me to even be using it.

I swing it around and clip a shelving unit witch tips over....hits next unit...tips....next.....next....next....total domino effect!  Total destruction of ten isles.
Products everywhere.

To top it off, the load on the fork lift fell off.   It was hundreds of boxes of Lady Bugs!
The entire store was filled with hundreds of thousands of Lady Bugs.   :D

They couldn't  fire me but I didn't last long.   It was made clear I wasn't wanted.......

I've never rented van from uhaul but just found out that they have special rates.
$98/day, first 100miles free, $0.29/mile there after.

Week is like $300, 700/miles; month $999, 3000miles.

Going this route since I was given the wrong numbers.   Van is $0.79/mile and 12mpg.  And have another pick-up the next day so mileage will be closer to 200 miles.

best deal is home depot. not all home depots do this but many rent trucks and vans out of their tool rental shop. its $24 for a few hours i think three hours. there's not much paperwork like at rental places where it takes 45 min to get your truck home depot they take a quick copy of your license and credit card and your on your way. they got vans and i think f250's or something similar with high walls.

I use to rent from them but around here the changed it.  Something like your $24, 19+tax?
But now its strict on 75min time limit, then $20hr and you need to fill it up.

No way I could ever rent, drive to unit, load, drive home, unload, return in 75minutes.

I can rent a truck thru Budget for 24hrs for about $50 with full insurance.

I just reserved a van thru u-haul.  $30.95 (w/insurance) + $0.59/mile.  Figuring 100miles so $60.  Gas is 100mles @ 20mpg so 5gal x $4gl= $20 .     Roughly $110.

Really cuts into profit.

Oh, by the way Alias, I adjusted your post count to include the posts made on your old username.

Cool.   I'm a big boy now!

Though don't know how much I can contribute right now.   Just running errands for 2hrs yesterday and I took a 6hr nap!     No auctions or even pick'n for a couple weeks.

Do have a guy selling off contents of his shop.  Got some tires and rim's I need to pick up but hiring some labor to do the lifting......

WhoooHoooo!    Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!!

As you see I survived surgery.   Did have a slight complication.  90 minute estimated time turned to five hours on table.   Heart just didnt want to cooperate.   Kept going into Afib.  Kept having to break out the paddles.....actually they are patches but "breaking out the patches" doesn't have the same ring to it.  ;D

They cranked that baby up to 300j.   Feels like I took a baseball bat to the side of my rib cage!
And it F'd up my shoulder.....

Other than that everything went great.  Really not a bad procedure.
Won't be cleaning out any storage units for a while.  Said it takes about 3 months for heart to heal to a point you really notice a difference. A week before I can start hitting the gym just to walk, maybe some light resistance training.  At least 4-6 weeks before I can start to really do heavier physical activities.

Thanks!

Hopefully it works.   I have no interest in being shocked again.

They had a hard time figuring out what he problem was cause I never went in while it was happening.
Run on treadmill, fine.   Cholesterol, fine.  Load pressure, fine.   I could stand to gain a few pounds so weight is fine.

I'm no gym type person but I do some cardio and light weights 3-5 times a week.

Wasn't unil I went in *while* it was going on did they pick up the problem on EKG.
Thought I was having a heart attack for sure.   Hurt so bad.  Couldn't breath.

Tried meds first but they sucked and I'm not taking meds for the rest of my life if the problem can just be fixed.   Plus the meds don't stop the problem. Just reduce the likelihood of an attack.....

Non-invasive heart surgery.  The kind they go in thru an artery.    No one can tell me why but all of a sudden I've been going into Afib.  To the point they have to shock me to get my heart back in rhythm.

Meds didn't work and horrible side effects so trying surgery where they burn sections of our heart to create scar tissue so electrical signals don't pass thru.

It's weird cause last Friday I ran 45min on treadmill, just fine.   Yesterday I walked up a flight of stairs and felt like I was having a heart attack.

I find is suspicious that I had shoulder surgery last year and right after this started.  Went to one doctor when it was bad and he said it looked like I had a embolism.   Related?   Don't know.

Funny thing is all the doctors say its not related.
But ask what causes Afib?   They don't know.

So?   You don't know what causes this condition but its not related to surgery?
How do you know it's not related if you don't know what causes it?! :-[
