Flea Markets / Re: How often do you sell at a flea market?
« on: June 27, 2013, 07:46:00 PM »
I'm up at the pseudo flea market every weekend. I've learned that anything can be sold if the price is right. Burned pots and pans go for $2 ea. I sold a stained dress for $4. Granted, I have the space to keep this kind of stuff. Once I get cramped, the worst stuff will be sent out to Goodwill..

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: This is the Month guys

When you say "junk/junk" do you mean yard sale smalls like cups and hats, or do you mean stuff that would normally be thrown away or donated, like soiled clothes, dirty stuff, etc.?

What's it Worth?? / Re: HVAC Equipment

There you go! The smaller HVAC companies are always looking for those kinds of deals!

eBay / Re: Inflating Bids

I have more issues with international buyers than buyers with zero feedback. The past 2 weeks I've sold 8 items. All paid except 1.. the international buyer. 5 of the buyers all had automatic payment through Paypal. 2 of the 7 were zero feedback buyers. Both paid with no problem.

30 lockers in 6 months is a high rate of buying! Sucks that your area isn't buying resale. What are you doing with your surplus?

Check with smaller HVAC companies. They're always looking for a deal on equipment. I'm under the impression that small HVAC companies sell the systems for a commission, they don't own it outright.

The Lounge / Re: What do you think about the Zimmerman Trial?
« on: June 25, 2013, 05:14:10 PM »
Yeah, I don't think Zimmerman was going out looking for a fight. All the pundits said today that the prosecution was trying to get in his 911 calls throughout the previous 6 or so months to develop a pattern of civility and now all of a sudden he's a vigilante. If I were the defense, I'd gladly accept those calls as evidence that the police didn't do their job, so on this night, Zim felt like he had to follow the kid all the way till the end until the cops showed up. Martin turns around and instigates a fight, the gun goes off.

It's a story of lazy police work to arrest someone who had broken into neighboring houses, frustrated citizens, mistaken identity (Martin didn't break into houses in my opinion), and an unfortunate accident.

That's not a bad idea! I'm going to look at this 779 sq. ft. unit tomorrow. At least I hope.. My eye has swollen shut overnight.. Damn allergies.. I'll have to see how it's laid out, if he allows sublets, etc.

Parting it out would have taken forever, and eventually, (if you're like me) you would have slid on your pricing to free up some space. You could have held out a bit more and probably squeaked another $500, but any time you can triple+ your investment is a good day!

Goodwill around here stopped accepting CRTs. Luckily, where I live, I can leave them by the trash and they'll go away. At the store where I'm "flea marketing" they've had 4 CRT's on craigslist free for a month. They can't give them away!

I hear you, 300 sq. ft. is small. But it's in a great plaza in front of Target/Sam's Club and next to restaurants like Golden Corral and others. My other options are $800 for 600 sq. ft. which I'm nervous about taking on, but it's near home and gets TONS of traffic passing by per day. No street signage though.. and $1025 for 1100 sq. ft. just outside of Cary NC's downtown area. Lots of construction going on down there currently, not much traffic when there was no construction that I could see.

Neighbors in  the 600 sq. ft. unit is a couple of restaurants, an Indian foods store, printer, Molly Maids, computer repair shop and tire center..

Neighbors in 1,100 sq. ft. store is a scooter store (like rascals, not cool scooters), a church, and a sportswear shop.

....Just got another offer.. $844 including water/electric for 779 sq. ft. in the heart of downtown Cary. High foot traffic. Part of an indoor mall. Very tempting. Don't know if I can swing the rent though..

Also, this 300 sq. ft. space very close to a Target and Sam's Club. Should I be worried?

Here's the link to the address.. https://maps.google.com/?q=loc:+4125+Durham+Chapel+Hill+Blvd+Ste+4A+Durham+NC+US

Still, even with the extra $100 it's a better deal than the flea market. Your competition isn't one table away,

The competition there was non existent. It was really just me selling in the back of their store. All the other pods are filled with their storage auction overflow that couldn't fit in the store. They had employees there on the weekend to sell their stuff.. when they showed up.

When I was trying to make it work, when their employees wouldn't show up, I'd sell their stuff for a 50% commission. But I got tired of being the only out there.. On top of that, the weather is killing us! At least one of the weekend days is a rain out.

Also, each of the last 4 weeks we've pulled ticks off of us. It's just a bad situation every way you look at it. The guys are sweethearts, but it's frustrating being the only ones out there.

This past week we had a tenant come and pay during the auction. We hadn't gotten to her unit yet, but she ran into the unit with her past due and paid up. The most annoying thing in the world! I agree with setting the payment due the day before auction date.

Has the new season started yet, or are you basing your statement on the promos?
