Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Good storage wars story

You have to substitute the word for a female dog in the space above where the asterisks appear. That word is automatically deleted when used in a post in this forum.

What?......I typed in "Old Yeller" and the link didn't work...... :P

WOW - you have struck gold!  Personally, I would take my time and try to sell to get top dollar (or maybe "best" dollar).  Who knows, you may never get another score like this again.  The great part about this is you win no matter what direction you take!!   :D

Good luck - and keep us informed!!   (Said that quietly, didn't want your aunt to hear! ;))

What's it Worth?? / Re: Superman record player
« on: May 30, 2012, 01:28:12 PM »
That's a pretty cool item - I remember my sister had one - as well as the matching LP case (because it had some of the female Super Heroes.)

I'm sure you looked at several sites, and it seems $160 would be a good price - this website estimates the value at $150-$250 with a starting bid of $70 ---->

Good luck - hope your friend sells it for a decent price!!   :D

Had to laugh at the last part of this story:

"...Although Jones concedes shows such as theirs have made the industry more competitive by bringing attention to the scene, he also attributes increased interest to the tough economic times that have led many to seek their fortunes in the business, even as others leave their goods behind in abandoned units.

Haff said, though, that it isn’t the new bidders who concern them."

(No, the concern is being able to find enough Retail and Gun Shops willing to lend them the merchandise they can use to stage the units!!)

So you mean the one-of-a-kind MINT CONDITION rifle they found thrown behind a pile of random crap was a PLANT!! ??? ???

Dammit, I hate it when they crush my dreams of finding that in my next locker!!   ;)

Picker's Paradise / New Goodwill Store in town
« on: May 23, 2012, 02:05:24 PM »
Recently (last month) they closed down the UPS Store that was literally one mile from my house...so much for convenience.   >:(

On Monday, the empty store opened as a Goodwill.   :)  Good news, it's a mile from my house - bad news, it's kinda small (30' x 100' ??)  It's in a strip-type mall building and they have a neighbor - but they are the end store, so they may have a little more room inside.  Will be checking them out for size, potential auctions, drop offs, etc.  This is pretty handy since the closest GW up to this point has been about 15 miles.

At least they didn't open another Dollar Store..... ::)

Hey,

I'm sort of a beginner you could say and have a little inventory but was kind of curious what my items were worth.

(Sorry have 2 post, the first post was put in the wrong section.)

Well....you're STILL in the wrong section... ???.....try this ----->

BTW, I have to agree with Money....turn and burn baby, turn and burn!   ;)  (Unless, of course, it's a 16th century sword, dueling pistols, $50,000 diamond ring, or Quadzilla!!)

Good luck!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #5...May, 2012
« on: May 19, 2012, 12:06:58 PM »
Disappointing morning to say the least.  Two auctions at facilities literally right across the street from each other.  One at 9:00am and the next at 10:00am.  Close to home, nice places, friendly management....

Auction #1 - I arrive at 8:35am, sign in as bidder #5, and am told there will be eight units.  I then spend the next 25 minutes watching three tenants pull into the lot, go into the office,  and pay up their units.  So we're down to five.  Good new is only about 10 bidders and 15-16 people total.  Unfortunately, the units were: 1) crap $50  2) crap $60  3) crappier $20   4) crappiest $5 (this unit was a 5x10 LOADED with furniture, but all broken - the crowd scattered like gas-on-ants :))   5) junk - not quite crap! $275    Mostly broken furniture, matresses, box fans, tons of clothing....these units were so bad even our local whale only bought one $60 unit.  (He was outbid by another guy for the 5th locker).  Things were so bad even the photo I took of Unit #5 didn't turn out on my phone..... >:(

Auction #2 - About seven or eight of us drive across the street to the other place - it's a nice facility where I've gotten some nice smalls in the past - and we're told "all paid up - nothing to auction."  Figures...

Bottom line:  In my area, it seems both the crowds and the prices have come down - but now the quality of the merchandise has also gone down.  There have been some great lockers, but they are now about 1-in-20 or 1-in-30.  Anyone else noticing this in your areas?

Good luck out there !!  ;)

Tell them you'll be on TV if they film you in a dark locker and garble your voice!!   ::) ::)

Forgot to mention that the regional manager had received a call yesterday from KOLD13 about wanting to do a piece and he told them no.....today they just showed up~

Funny, as a former radio deejay, I couldn't help but note the call letters of your TV station - it reminded me of the old Harry Chapin song.."I am the morning deejay at WOLD..D.D.D.D....."

Either that, or KOLD's "sister station" is WARM (east of the Mississippi, of course) ... :D :D

Maybe when the auctioneer said "SIXTEEN FIFTY" they thought he meant $16.50  ??? :P

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Living in a storage unit.
« on: May 15, 2012, 02:04:32 PM »
At the law firm we called that a 'reference of character'

Right or wrong it works. Say they were living in a locker? You could get a "oh poor things" reaction.
Throw in "fornicating" and the general consensus is they are low life's.......

Paraphrasing the great "Jazz Comedian" Franklyn Ajaye:  "Confucious says, Ye Who Fornicates Will Not Get To Heaven...WHAT!!??...When I fornicate I AM IN HEAVEN....."

They also are going to require taracking on a large percentage of transactions. The 14 days is supposed to be implemented by June. They continue to try make sellers jump through hoops.

Even if your auctions all end on the same day, the "one day tracking" begins when the buyer pays - so one pays Monday, one pays Tuesday, one pays Wednesday....geez.  That's a LOT of trips to the Post Office.  Guess we'll have to rent a cot there or risk getting bad feedback!! :P
