Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hello People
« on: December 26, 2011, 04:40:41 PM »

I do not understand the mentality of "it’s a business to me so stay out of my way."
Greg

Well to be honest we are noobies too and have not really hit the "it’s a business to me so stay out of my way."  Most everyone has been really nice, the more we attend the more we are welcomed by the regulars. This is a business to us.

Years ago in my area of business there were only two bidding companies. Then it went to 6, and now as the economy has gotten worse, there are around 10 bids on every job. Some people bid foolishly and get the job.

But that’s their right, and I understand it.
As Cobia said a lot of disrespect, for people, Auctioneers, and facility managers. When you see it over and over again by people you will not see again you get a bit of an attitude regular or not.  Quoted you on the comparison of 6 to 10 new bids multiply that by 100.
Yes they have a right to bid but when they come out and bid up units and loose their money and don't return there are 50 more to take their place.  So it gets frustrating. We have attended so many auctions with no purchases because the prices are to high to make a profit, and profit being after paying for your time, gas, labor, ect.
We have a noobie and I really do not care for him. He has paid to much IMO for units, and is worried about who got it if he did not, also just acts like an ass. We have seen him at the local auctions which are in the beginning of the month I really hope he lost his but and does not return.  ::)

Anyway welcome aboard and good luck.

Garage Sales / Re: Winter Yard Sales in Southeast
« on: December 26, 2011, 04:01:58 PM »
I would agree with Drew.

However for us there is no change in yard sales with the seasons. There were 5 (advertised) on this past Friday and a few on Saturday.  ???

So let us know how it goes. And good luck.

Sometimes things are just so obvious, we overlook them!

LOL

I have been thinking what have we sold that we could have used as Christmas gifts. LOL

Funny how you look at inventory as cold hard cash. Maybe next year will be able to supply all of Christmas with inventory. LOL  :D

Glad you will make money on your unit.

With you on the hate selling something you know little about. But with every unit comes education.  :D

I know that kids clothes sell... hahahahaha

Also, when someone tries to get me down on $3 for a kids DVD I have to educate them (not that they don't already know) that a child will play a DVD so many times that the cost per viewing would be about 25 cents per viewing...that's cheap babysitting.

LOL I will remember that, last unit got about 60 DVD's mostly kids.

Welcome and the auctions only get better with time.

See people come and go. We make bets (among ourselves) how long someone will survive and when will we see them again. LOL

good luck.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Can't wait For Spring

Well the weather has been wonderful down here in Fl.

But good grief suppose to be in the 80's today. Too hot for Christmas.

Only thing with Florida are the afternoon showers.  Seems each year I'm down there I can set my watch by when it would start to rain for 10-20 mins then stop and be sunny again.

Yes those are nasty days, if it rains before 2:00 Pm going to get really sticky, if it rains after 3:30 PM will be nice cools things off for the evening. My grandfather said air conditioning changed Fl. No one would live here without it. LOL
I have seen it rain in my front yard and not be raining in the back yard... LOL

I mean actual auctions being held. Nothing from December 20th-29th here, but then we pick up with 4-5 in 2 days. Not sure how it is everywhere else, but 9 days is a long time between auctions!

We only have two next week, and three the next. But that is about the average this time of the month.
I have to call about one legal notice said Auction date is Thursday May 26  ??? going to call this morning it might be on this Monday or Jan. 26. Or cancelled  because of the bad date. I think they don't hold them very often. 26 Units up.

Really? I going to 6 a week and prices are great! Best time of the year to buy due to small crowds And people not spending.

Were are you located? We don't have that many in normal time.  :P

 :D :D :D

I can say from you two , craiglstauction and now rockin when I see a trunk I walk away... LOL  JK

Mainly because the price is going to be to much with our auction buyers...

It happens. Husband bought one I had no idea he was bidding on. He missed the chair with no legs and the skirt coming off... We are in the green on it not by much, One item left to sell , will put us at $75 over cost of unit.

Anything over $500 we are real careful. Or cheap.. LOL Have only seen a few worth more than that.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: I'm also questioning this Business.
« on: December 22, 2011, 05:25:51 AM »
Still considered new have 7 lockers under our belts. We have a truck and access to a trailer.

Depending on your area you can start with low funds we did. Only risk what you can afford to loose.

Our area is full of buyers like you. Want small lockers little furniture ect. the prices for these are very high.
We have yet to get a locker with a lot of totes or boxes.  Still on the hunt for that.

Do some research on selling the larger items. When we started we were going to auctions just checking it out, then found out our neighbour opened a thrift with consignment. We buy furniture lockers and sell all of it there.  Yard sale the rest, some ebay not much, no high quality.

We bought a 5 x 5 took two truck loads and 1/2 trailer to empty. Bought the bad one on same day so the second trip had to make anyway.

Start making some contacts for items you don't want. We have a storage buyer will try and sell the stuff right after the auction so he does not have to move it. We got a truck load for free from him. (furniture).

find out what is selling in your area. Washing machines and dryers are a dud in our immediate area but met a lady who can not keep them in her thrift store. (little far for us to sell to her)

Wish you luck and just be prepared for the fast paced work after purchase. Would attend a few auctions first then start making some plans. Nothing like what TV land shows.

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: New from Boston
« on: December 22, 2011, 04:49:50 AM »
Welcome aboard. A lot of advice here.

Sounds like you did well on your first unit. Profit is always good. We have not seen $50 lockers in a while. Prices are real high here but we are surviving. Bought a bad locker 3 weeks ago it is in the green, not by much and I think one more item to sell so at least not in the red.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

When you find something the wife really likes she want be so hard on you.  :D

Let us know what you find out. And have our fingers crossed that the drinks are on you.  ;D

If not you might need a vacation to Fla.  ;)

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Is this for me?
« on: December 21, 2011, 07:01:52 PM »
Well I will agree with Movieman. Does not sound like it is for you.

Will say impressed with you doing your research before jumping in.  ;D

Maybe can help out on the ebay end of this business or
you could always develop relationships with others who will buy in bulk the flea market/yard sale type of items and you can pick out the good stuff for ebay... maybe furniture can goto a consignment store of some sort if you are not comfortable with craigslist
Most of our sales are consignment. Met a guy that sales the lower end stuff to a thrift store, and has a buyer for the furniture, and now us for the kids clothes (just pick up not paying for them).
