General Storage Auction Talk / Re: "Wished I had the Money to do That"
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:04:10 PM »
Curious, does the site explain why they don't want people supporting storage buyers??

Would like to know that too.

And an update: the last time we went to make a drop at the thrift she was talking about her customers wanting to know where she gets her stuff. And that they offered to do it also for her (they may think she pays us to do it). so I told her to tell them we just buy and sell stuff. Told her don't tell them storage auctions. She got it I think. Next yard sale up there want be until the 7th of January. So maybe it will die down by then.

Starting to get off topic, but I am amazed at how much transexual (folks with both sets of sex organs) porn I find in units. Must be a real popular underground/in the closet fetish in are society I did not know about.

Well we have not gone through all the stuff in our unit from yesterday but after finding the porn and womens size 11 shoes. Might be interesting or scary.

On the other hand - I have a stack of bibles I ended up tossing out with the porn as no one wanted them.  That just felt wrong.

So far have found two bibles with the porn. ??? What ever.

There was not a church that would take the bibles?  Just thinking not sure what we will have to do with ours yet. Drop them off at the steps.  Throwing them away would feel wrong. but you have to what you have to do.

Well I should not complain. But Winters here are pretty nice.

For the past week it has been overcast and drizzle rain. Very unusual may get cold but we have sun.

Was suppose to warm up yesterday it did not feel like it. We did not see the sun until about 2:00 PM.

Would not survive in a gloomy climate, effects my mood. True Floridian here.

This is the best I was dressed with two shirts and a long coat (to cut the wind). The Auctioneer was in shorts and a young bidder was in flip flops.  What in the world. See it all the time.

We get in the 30's but it usually does not last long, just a few days. Sometimes we hit the 80's on Christmas. Will save my complaints for the summer months.  Hot and Humid.

As Long there are both sexes... LOL

Point #3~you've got to be kidding?  4 outta 6 units (we've purchased) have had some sort of porn.  You've been very lucky....or unlucky depending on your perspective. 8)

Bible belt still runs deep... LOL   We can't even gamble. Unless we go to the Indian casinos.  ;D

Was never a big yard sale goer but with lockers going for so much we go on the hunt.
This pass weekend we spent $56

Bought a glider recliner    sold $20 (actual trade at thrift for small frig. Which we got one in our locker today) ::)

3 dinning room chairs      4sale @ $30

A high back rattan chair    4 sale @ $40

A China tea set (Only marks are in Chinese)  From the '50 or '60's  ????

A home-made jewellery box full of costume jewellery (manly glass) 22 Necklaces one vintage blown glass chilli peppers ????

Hand painted wine decanter and 6 glasses.  ????

I have realized how little we know about the smalls. Might need to post the tea pot on what is it worth.

So we are into yard sales. We hit the ones late on Saturday and on Sunday think that is why we do so well.

Ebay not bad good place to get rid of stuff like that. Give it a shot Read the ebay stuff on here, But don't get discouraged it is paying off for us.

Would not go back there.

They are not suppose to but if they ran the legal notice two months before. then say the auction was cancelled, then they can go through it and add it to the next auction. that easy no laws broken. Buyer be ware.

Have heard of several different people talking about a minimum bid, and the units looked like they had been gone through. We have not witnessed this but have heard enough to know that if they put minimums on the units we will leave.

Pods sound good. The only one I have seen is a little bit of a drive for us, but might be worth it.

Went to a new facility today, decided to skip the normal caravan. It was early so we could catch the end of the caravan if need be. 8 Units, about 40 people 6 bidders.

Two 5x5 with file cabinets and office furniture one nice table   $110 for both

2 small 5x5 went between $100-$150

Forgot one washer for $85.  ???

2 small 5x5 empty one with briefcase and the other with book bags went for $200-$250  ???

10x30 average furniture not packed but not bad $350

10x20 packed to the rafters $390  Bought this one.

We saw some familiar faces from our neck of the woods. One of the Whales that no one likes in our normal runs, was there I actually got to see him kid around and have some fun.
There was no BP or tax.
Most everyone there was very nice.
Ok on to the good stuff.
Our unit had 3 older TV's in it and a box of old shoes that one of the other buyers wanted. He did not bid on it, then approached us and asked to buy the TV's, Box of shoes, and an old washer. I rummaged  around the large tub of shoes (wanted to keep the tub, like Craiglstauction need them). They were name brand but well used, and had women's size 11. One of the TV was a 34" I did not think I could pick it up,(forgot the dolly) the other two were small. So we sold them to the guy. He has a thrift store and buy this point we realized it was not all going to fit in the truck and trailer. Sold them for $80.

We have a truck load of clothes, A trailer full of furniture, We dropped maybe a 1/4 of the furniture at thrift and so far we are at $220 when it sells. The only bad part is we have to go back in the AM to get the rest. Oh after last week with all the sofas and chairs there were none in this locker. Just tables and dressers, Dinning room chairs, and clothes.

So we did not get to the caravan.  ;D

Fayettenam Man Sounds good.  How were the crowds?

I forgot to mention also there were about 50 people at the ones in town. The one on our way home about 6 Nobs, and us.

The Nobs I notice are the ones that are rude and Bi**h about everything.  Just don't understand complaining about the people and the managers. One of the nobs talking to much about what they see in the unit. Same one did not win the unit and after the bidding went sticking his nose back in it. WTH.

I could go on but want.

Off to an estate auction this morning. Last minute on site, they had pictures looks like a whole storage facility threw up.  ;D Keep you posted

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Young Children at Auctions
« on: December 09, 2011, 07:45:34 PM »
If I took my kids they would be loading the truck, So I don't think they will attend with me... :D :D

We have not seen a lot of kids. But when we do most are well behaved. So no complaints here.

Come on people this is business not a family outing. leave the young children and infants home.

I'm at an auction yesterday, it's about 40 degrees out with the wind chill making it feel below 30. There's a guy there with an infant in a carrying basket and another dozen or so couples with their under 6-year old kids with them. Now on top of dealing with the 100 or so non-bidding Lookie Loos jambing up the place, there are a couple of dozen kids running around and a crying infant. Half the time you couldn't hear the auctioneer when the auctions were going on.

If I encountered that I would be upset too.

" Now you know why some animals eat their young" ;)

Think our problem is we are not telling anyone. Except for the occasional slip.  Someone else is. Maybe I should talk to her.

And I think we need to find some other areas for selling.

Truth be known we are doing pretty good with Auction houses and yard sales. But a lot of running.

Thanks for the input.
