Glad to here you were not effected. Except for Sales. The news can make it sensational.

Down here in Fl. Those kind of storms are common. 2004 was the worse year for us. 4 Hurricanes one right after the other. We were very fortunate, no losses except our mental stability.  ;)

Being in the middle of the State usually the only impact we see is Tornadoes caused by the Hurricanes. I hate tornadoes.

We may put our canopy up next yard sale. For the sun. We have the walmart verity easy up in the back of the van with our camping gear.  ;D

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: weekend auctions?
« on: December 04, 2011, 01:43:29 PM »
If you are finding Auctions then you are looking in the right place. We have only found one or two Auctions on the weekends. Others have quite a few. So could just be your area, or they only do it once a month.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Scrap metal - is it worth it?
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:41:47 AM »

And thanks to this forum.  It never occurred to me to cut cords off dead electrical items.

Husband is a steel guy so scraping has been a part of life. Now he looks a little differently on the small stuff. And I am with you on the electric cords, and cutting the ends off extension cords. Never even crossed my mind.  :)

Heard a kid talking about the gold in cell phones. Said it is about .40 a phone, has a guy who will give him .50 phone. Sounded like to much work or total BS LOL

Flea Markets / Re: Flea Market Revenue ?
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:19:01 AM »
I sold one xmas book for $.50.  At 10 for a buck I'd just give them to Goodwill and write them off as $1 a book.  Beanie babies I've given a few away to kids after the parents spent 10-20 bucks with me.  Trying to build some goodwill so they look for me every week.

I used our glass block to hold up the books and sold all the glass block I had. So used more of a selling tool.
We had quite a few people say oh just keep the difference which was .50.
We are comparing apple and oranges mine was a yard sale. We are not limited on table space. Helped fill them up. We had a box of misc. toys basically for free. Building the goodwill. Had quite a few return customers.  :D

General Storage Auction Talk / Search Storage Auction on Cl
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:11:26 PM »
Was looking on Cl for free stuff and then search for Garage sales, and what do I see STORAGE AUCTION ON DEC 8 @10:00 am. with a web address so I copy & past go to a site that I don't recognize. For $29.99 you get a book, 3months of advice and a money back guarantee from a pro doing it for 3 years. Then there are other links on how to not be a total Nob. One says to use the dumpster at the facility. WHAT.

So I go and click on the Auction link, and low and behold it is our biggest Auctioneer. (they do over 16 facilities in our area every month) Explains why there have been so many people there.  They just started charging a 10 % BP.  :'(
We were planning on attending to just show our faces, now I don't think we will bother.

Glad you did good this weekend.
On the books I sold about 20 and I priced them at 10 for a $1.00.

I have also learned that totes for the kids clothes worked well for us this weekend. Will get designated totes for the sizes.

We sold 3 Beanie babies. for $1.00 each. Lucky to get that... LOL

Garage Sales / Re: $1.00 Yard Sale Dec. 2
« on: December 03, 2011, 06:22:59 PM »
Well Drum roll. ~~~~~~~~ $309 Total for the weekend.
Good day tater.  Owe and possible sale tomorrow of some glass block another $24.  Guy wanted them and went in the Thrift store and when he came back out was going to buy one to see if he could polish it up.. I sold the ten I had there while he was in the store.. He called and will take what we have left.

We sold 5 items that have been in the past 5 yard sales today... And did not lower the price.  ???

Had a Guy wanting to flip a coin for the price of the Hitch we got out of a locker.. It was funny.. We won the toss.  ;D.
Got $5.00 tip (found it on the ground), And a necklaces someone lost. Not gold or silver has rock arrowhead on it. No one came and asked if we found one. So guess it is mine.

So was a good weekend.

Friday's are turning out to be our best day, Think next month will try Friday and Sunday. And See if Sunday will do better.  In a Retail parking lot and she is open on Sunday and it is one of her best days.

You are forgiven (especially since you live in Florida and pose no immediate threat to California!)  ;)

Thanks figured we were a little safe not to many Floridians on here.    ;D

I know people who have done it for the last 15 or 20 years...imagine THEIR feelings about the shows.

I've been doing it for 8 years (see my signature below) and I harbor some resentment, mostly for the lookeyloos (who never bid but eat up pavement time) and for those newbies who bid outrageously, paying $750 for a locker that has maybe $300 or so of sales inside.

But, I'm adapting and persevering. Many drop out and eventually all who are not serious will be gone.

Even being a noobie we see the regulars that I am sure have been doing this for at least 15 years or more and I feel for them this is their living. They would probably give us a harder time but with all the high bidding going on we never have to bid against them because they don't bid and we don't bid.
A doubled edge sword we have gained some respect because we are not the outrageous noobies. Some of the regulars are giving us leads on other auctions.

I am sure they all hold resentment can see it in their faces. Everyone is making money off the shows except for the buyers. Example. Auctioneer's , Storage facility, The state for tax. [/b]
So I hope for us and all our Whales that they weather the storm. It would be nice to do the auction scene without the outrageous.

Ok I will respond... been trying to avoid it... HAHAHAHa

The stupid show did it for us thanks to Netflix... No Cable TV here... And we got to see it.

Husband and I have always been wheeling and dealing. Buy at right price and then sell at higher price. Husband has been doing other kinds of Auctions sense he was 16.
We have been playing with all kinds of ideas on how to make a living out side of our normal professions.
We have 5 acres of land... We had come up with growing plants (one of my professions), to raising rabbits, chickens, anything... Then one night flip through Netflix and there it was. Husband said I have always wanted to check that out. So with some research and thankful for this site here we are. Still noobies by most standards, but working on building it up to make it full time.

Garage Sales / Re: $1.00 Yard Sale Dec. 2
« on: December 02, 2011, 06:30:04 PM »
Hope you did well. Our total for the day was $178. Sold two items for $70. so the other was all  .50 to a $1.00 items so not a bad take but a long day. We are getting a reputation of having new stuff and repeat yard sale customers. : ). So not bad going back out tomorrow and hopefully will be even less stuff left. Van almost empty...  ;D
