General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Anybody else wearing $525 long johns?
« on: November 28, 2011, 07:49:48 PM »
$525 Purple long-john's are great.  ;D  We have done pretty good on the non keeper factor.. If I look at something to long I will want to keep it . My husband sees green it is gone... HAHAHAHa

Our problem is going to be family.... Do you have or if you come across this... Most are good but there is one that is going to be ruff... Just starting out we sell everything. So I will have to charge them. Might cause a war... LOL

Most Auction's I have attended if there is a car/ or something with a title the Auctioneer will announce that they have the paper work or not for the item. These are auctions with an auctioneer.

On Auctions without Auctioneer's usually there is no paper work. I have found in the notice's that they will state if they have the paper work for it or not.

I have seen two cars and a sail-boat sell with titles. All with Auctioneers.

And to answer your next question yes some facility's do their own auctions.

This is from Florida so laws maybe different.

« on: November 27, 2011, 02:54:56 AM »
Haven't found to many estate sales but a lot of yard sales... Hit one last weekend and got some Levis for $2 currently on Ebay one bid is at $8 so not to bad. We also picked up a nice entertainment stand for $20 currently in the Thrift store for $65.  Going to hit a  moving one day only sale today. never now what you will find.

Oh there are those WORDS again "You never know"[/b]  LOL  ;D

Flea Markets / Re: Black Friday Results??
« on: November 27, 2011, 02:19:08 AM »
Had planned a yard sale for the weekend in front of friends thrift store.. With a Pow Wow happening down the street. Well my husband and I fell under the weather, and were unable to pull it off. Spoke to my thrift store she said she had like 50 people in on Sat. not buyers just lookers, So not a total bust for her.  Not sure when she sold my items for $100, could have been Wednesday or Friday. That puts that Locker at double our money with $60 left in inventory.
But we did sell our Diesel fuel tank that we picked up for $25 for $200. So even though no flea or yard was a pretty good weekend. Planning the yard for this coming weekend.

Kinda glad we did not put out the effort for the yard sale.  :)

Welcome aboard.

You will learn a lot when you go to the auctions. We have a pretty good handle on our local area hitting some outside of the area so still learning.

On the research of the people losing their units, Personally I feel it is a waste of your time.
But you can look up the clerk of the court records. They are public
And look in the sheriff arrest records. Or just a Google search. Could search the obituaries too.

IMO not sure of what information you gain about a person will tell you what is in a unit... Now Jail or death may be good because most likely it is a house full. But anything else not sure of the point. When the door opens you can tell if it is from someone with money, buy the items inside and the way it is packed. One we bought was obviously from an apartment eviction .. Dirty clothes and all.

So good luck and if you find some reason that the research of the person is good let me know.

Until the curtain is pulled back and the great and powerful wizard turns out to be homeless guy who has been living  in the locker and has only left behind bedbugs and a bottle of pee.  Now what tinman?
What he said and

It is not free money... You work hard for it. The pay off's you here about are maybe the one in 50 units purchased and the 100's of auctions you attend with nothing to show for it... But an empty gas tank and no selling no organizing done.. been to two this week and no purchase. Wasted 1/2 a day but part of the process.

So good luck.

Boy we had to think on that one...

Took son's truck for money he owed us (time to grow up). He owed us about $500. Sold the truck for $1000.00. Bought the truck back 6 months later for $100.00 (it had repairs done to it, new gas tank, new battery) Truck was full of gas... Sold back to our son for $700.00...

He grew up....  ;D

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 11.....November, 2011

Well round two of the regular caravan for our area... Only three facilities 11 units total.... Called the first one because only one listed and then a 1.5 hour wait for the next... She asked where we were coming from then she said if you are interested an an appliance then come... It was just a washer... So we passed on that one.
Next had 8  there were 60 people there. Most looked like retired couples coming out to watch... Some regulars and some defiantly in the business but had not seen them before.
One unit with just a single metal bed $25.00.
Then a 5X5 I think may have been smaller. Had some antiques in it and a guitar case $500.00..
Another one 10x20 had two large flat screens couch standing on end,  broken small pool table, an exercise machine... Would have to pay me to take this one... $300.00.
10x20 stacked full bags of clothes thrown in. could see name brand stuff... $300.00.  Found out at next site that under all the stuff thrown in neatly stacked totes full... A Panasonic panoramic camera in the case.. The kid that bought this buys all the units like this he has a store. He is there with his grandmother they are serious...  :)
The rest were ugly in the money department. The only good buy was the $300 10x20. Even it was just clothes and odds and ends he would have done fine. but sounds like this one is a Jackpot...
So we are still on the prowl for more of the less advertised and possible farther away... One of the regulars gave me a lead for Wednesday. Going to check it out might be to far to drive.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Preferential Treatment
« on: November 22, 2011, 07:57:52 AM »
FL sales tax is screwy but at least they don't pay STATE income tax.  So best bet is when you live on the state line.  You work in FL and then shop in say GA for lower sales tax.  I do that with gas since SC is normally 5-12 cents cheaper per gallon.

I'm still thankful I've yet to pay a 10% buyers premium.  I just stay clear of those auctions, what few are around here.
We do pay uncle Sam....LOL We live in the middle so we just have to pay the prices and the tax.

Think we are going to hang on to them for a little while and see if I can't find out more info.. And they are pretty cool.

Thanks monkeybusiness I will look at them a little closer...

Would ask my uncle but he is getting a little loopy with age... LOL

He only wants $1.00 each LOL So I will pay him and keep them.
