The Lounge / Re: Gun Control
« on: December 27, 2012, 12:43:33 PM »
Made a major blunder and have no one to blame but myself.  After our exalted leader got re-elected, I was going to purchase 100 of the 30 round P-mags for AR15 and hang onto them.  Could have bought them 10 days ago for a grand.  I watched with tears in my eyes last night as those same 100 mags sold for $7500 on Gunbroker!  Who couldn't use an extra $6500......give or take a few bucks for shipping!  :'(

Yep.  Gun show in Fort Worth always sold them for $20.
Last weekend they were $90!   Even .223 ammo was sky high nice everyone is old out.

What's weird is you can still get 5.56 ammo around here (and for normal price).

Hey all.

Been outa the game a while.   Last 6 weeks been doing 2-3 hours/day doing physical training.  Up to 15lb free weight curls!   lol.     Let me say, having your bicep cut off and reattached sucks!

Plus I was filling in as Chair for a non-profit.

Basically have just been worn out. Need to jump back in cause my bank is dwindling quickly.
Mostly picking since, tho way better, still not to the physical level of cleaning out lockers.
But getting my lists together to try and find one small ones.....hopefully......maybe.....

Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking at estate sales
« on: December 07, 2012, 09:04:10 PM »
I do very well at estates.

Mostly tools and kitchen wares.   I've yet to find rhyme or reason in the pricing strategy they have.  Really a hit or miss.

I only do the early, list sign up, thing if there is major tools.  Other wise wait till an hour or two after opening he first day, return last day for 50% off.

Really avoid first day openings if guns are for sale.   WAY to many people and have never found a deal.
One did have an Uzi w/suppressor for $600 but was beat to hell.

Really stick to smalls.   And found with smalls you have a better shot at bundling even on first day.

I'm not talking small co-ops.  I can legally grow up to 45 plants now.  I don't but if I did I wouldn't stress the Feds would bust down my door over it.

Talking when a grower decide to supply state approved stores.   Have 100's if not 1000's of plants, or stores with pounds of stock, all listed down with your name, addy, grow location.....easy bust for fed's.

Like I said, gonna be interesting how the  state goes about drafting the regulation and how the Feds react to them.    If he Feds are cool with it I'd consider growing.

No weed.  But came across grow equipment.  A LOT of grow equipment.
The price went thru the roof!

I had to talk a regular out of biding higher.  It was all old **** that really doesn't sell for all that much.
You can get LED lights now that use 10% of the power, low heat and can controll light spectrum from blue to red to promot growth or budding for under $200.  Who the heck wants those big a** halide things....
".................
The coming year is going to be interesting on how the fed's react.  We already have a huge community that grows medical marijuana, store fronts that accepts "donations" for getting your 'medicine'.

But if the Feds don't back off who is going to put their name down as being a grower or seller for the state?

It would basically be a Federal Bust list!   You might as well call the DEA and say you got 1000 plants at such-n-such addy......

I ask them to be sure to enclose a copy of the emails with check "as I am also busy and sell a lot of items and want to be sure I send them the correct item"

Then I give them the address of the local FBI office.

But either they don't send it or the FBI doesn't investigate it because I've never been contacted....

eBay / Re: Ebay Shipping is killing me

.If they would stop the use of third class mailing by advertisers and the bulk mailings of other advertisers at reduced rates they would not only free up the service for its orginal purpose but would save millions (maybe hundreds of millions) in dollars

The fact is that the use of first class mail has diminished so much due to email, texting, social networks that it is hardly a viable way of communicating at all. Bill paying online has cut into it too. All my opinion....yours may vary.

Post office is the same as Amtrak.  Lose of millions, they are blamed, but congress and past legislation have tied their hands......

Pretty much MM and Luke have summed up my ways.....

You really can fit a ton in the flate rate envelope.  Box item, shove it in and tape the sh*t out of it!

Print shipping at home from USPS site and you save .20-.30 cents.  It adds up.
Plus, as stated, you can 'hide' shipping cost.  And arrange pick up to avoid gas to post office.  And get free delivery notification/tracking.

The only packing supplies I buy are shipping  tape and shipping label sleeves.
Boxes and peanuts I get from behind stores, especially the Mall.

Tape is cheap at dollar stores, goodwill and eBay.

Shipping sleeves can be cut out but I hate taping down shipping labels and I think it adds a nice professional look.  I got 1000 for $10 off eBay.
I prefer the sticky labels for the printer since the USPS labels don't fit in the sleeves very well.  Have to crop and have gotten attitude from postman.  But the sticky labels do add 10 cents to the cost (more when they jam up!).

Craigslist / CL Sellers are nuts too.....
« on: October 14, 2012, 02:08:29 PM »
Since we have a 'buyers are crazy' I thought I'd hate the other side.....

Emailed a guy for a jetBoil system and cooking pan.

Wanted $100.   Emailed, very polite, said keep my email, if he can't sell elsewhere, contact and I'll pay $50.

I got a huge ass rant about he is so sick of low ball offers.....the system is $140 and pan is $60.

I emailed back with links to a site.
Online the jetBoil he is selling is $72.99.  Pan is $24.99.  With tax that's a little under $110.   Free shipping.    Why would I buy used when I could get new, with warranty, for $10 more?
....
He emailed back:  your f**king nuts!  I've never seen these systems for less than $140!  I don't know where our getting your information but do your research!!!  I said NO LOW BALL OFFERS!!
....

Wow.  I'm nuts?  I sent you  the links!  There's the research! That's what I can get it for new.

Then there is he other seller, he has posted the same Ad three Saturday's in a row.  I've emailed each time and he hasn't replied.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Resale laws challenged

eBay has set up a petition:  ebaymainstreet.com/news-events/citizens-for-ownership-rights-collecting-petition-signatures?utm_campaign=recruiting&utm_source=ebay-us-newsletter&utm_medium=enewsletter

Music and video industry is all over this case now.  They funny people.

First they say we aren't buying a product, we're buying a  licence to use said product.
If so, then we are allowed to load music or what not on multiple devices.
So they then say no, it's a virtual product (the idea behind the "you wouldn't shoplift a CD, would you" campaign), its the same as a physical CD. Have to use it the same as if it were a hard copy

Cool, means I can sell it as long as I only sell once and don't keep copy.

Nope.  Now they back stepped again and are saying its not like a physical CD!

WTF?  Your commercial just said it WAS just like a CD.  Make up your mind!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #10...October, 2012

The auto auction isn't much better.

Went yesterday to try and get a 1998 GMC truck.  Only 32,000 miles but beat.  Work truck.

Figured I could get it for under $2000 if auction went hard.

How I was wrong!   Went up to $3500 in a flash and kept going up slowly.

Guy ended up paying $5400 plus auction fees for a truck that sells on a lot for $4500 on the high end!
And this one was dented and interior trashed.  Blue book on it, in it's condition, is around $3000 IMO.

Someone else paid $6000 for passenger van.  Rear end damage and didn't start.
Guy next to me laughed.  Said he had that exact same van on his lot, fully loaded with DVD system thru out.....$7000.

Why go to auctions to pay retail (or above retail in these cases)?
I gave up after that.

I ended up at the Casino for the $5 lunch special and played penny slots where I won $10.75.
That's right. Step aside. High rolla come'n thru......    ;D

Probably ?

That's like saying the word "probably" just above is probably shown in the color RED and probably in 18 pt type.

It probably is......however, on my 20yr old monitor in the shop it sorta looks "salmon".....maybe a shade of "pink"?.......and I can't judge pt level to well......I'll probably just take your word for it.     ;D

Craigslist / Re: Bring change
« on: October 08, 2012, 11:54:03 AM »

I have a kinda wierd theory that is not meant to be an explanation for all the reasons why people are getting into reselling.

I think many people in this country have really been adversely affected by the economy over the last 5 years and those people who were consumate consumers can no longer just go out and buy stuff they want and shop for entertainment; so to feed their emotional "fix" to shop, they tell themselves they are shopping to "resale" and make money, when in reality they are just fullfilling the need to shop.

You have described my friend....

Started bringing him along since he knows electronics, motorcycle's and various other items I'm not good at.

Problem, he buys everything but never sells.  He rents a room so all his crap is piled outside his room, my rec room, garage......

I finally had to tell him he couldn't come with me anymore untill he purged.  He's like a horder!

He's also one of those people that when he does sell he wants top dollar.  He prices by what things are listed at, not sold for.   He got some 70's stereo equipment for $25. "Worth" a $150.  But not selling.

try for $150......but after 3 months....lower your price!

Sure, I have items that aren't selling and I won't lower price.  Eventually the right buyer will come along.  But they are smalls, take up no space and you can be damn sure if I need money or space they will be discounted.

He needs to learn the difference between 'possessions' and 'inventory'.

Sorry.  This turned into a Rant.   No buried feelings or resentments coming out here.  Move along. Nothing to see here, folks.  Have a nice day.   :-\
