What's it Worth?? / Have a Glass bottle
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:43:30 AM »
I cant seem to find any information on this piece. It is a green bottle with a plastic cap that works like a cork. It can not stand on its own, has to be laying down. It's base is wrapped with leather, although the leather is decaying. The only markings I am seeing is on the leather itself, it is three shields. The first shield is yellow with 6 dots, next shield is red with a flor de li, and the next is a white shield with a lion standing up.

Any ideas on its age, where it is made, and the value of this piece?

Thats good it went fast on CL. Lately CL has slowed down alot for me. Furniture and appliances seem to do good still though. Hope I can get rid of most of my stuff at a rummage sell I am taking part of soon.

We have a few places that do silent auctions, typically so far I personally do not like them. Although I have only been to one myself so far. So maybe in the future I will change my mind on them.

Then again there was only 5 units on this silent auction I went to today and most of it was stuff I did not want to touch. Only bidded on the first one, bidded $70.01 and the winning bid was $100

Over time I know this locker will pay off, but I'm worried about the time it will take to find buyers for the higher end items.  The last unit I got, the "Dungeons and Dragons" unit I got for $5 (I made a topic on it if you were wondering) was great in the fact I got rid of 90% of the items within a week.  I lack a lot of space to store items, which I why I try to only buy one unit a month.

Anyone on here have trouble moving higher end furniture/items?  My dilemma is, do I hold out for a high price, or sell it at a quick price?  I have the couch/love seat on CList for $800.  In the 10 lockers I have bought, none of them had higher end items, so I guess I'm new to this aspect of the biz.

Honestly that is only something you can decide, everyone has different dilemas. Although yours sounds similar to mine. I to have limited space. But this is what I would do, go ahead and rent a unit, somewhere cheap and close, dont want to dig into your profit margin to much. Make sure you have things priced at a good resell value for it. If it is worth it, people will see it and pay up. However that is a gamble onto itself. But that is just me. Why sell a $3,000 dollar piece in excellent shape for $200 just to get rid of it, when it could still go for $1,500 or more. Hope that makes sense.

thought I had seen that guy before. I'm in atl also. but I like the way he does auctions. He calls it the texas style line up and walk by. I you want to see it again get back in line. And like they say the last bid is the only one that counts. With the big crowds that's the only way to go.

lol, wish thats how they did it here in San Antonio. They crowd the whole damn doorway, I am a short guy compared to most people there, 5'5". At least I can say the auctioneers dont start until everyone sees. MMMM, good thing or bad thing. Guess good for me since I am so short, lol.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What is the hardest item to sell ?
« on: April 26, 2011, 09:14:43 PM »
So far for me it's electronics; computers, monitors, printers, stereos, 8-track players, cash registers. Haven't figured out the best way to sell this stuff. Of course I am talking about obsolete electronics, that are scraped up, missing plugs, wires, and accessories, probably don't work at 100%.  ???

Computers I scrap out myself, I use to build them, I still do every now and then when I feel like it. Monitors I junk if they are the old CRTs, printers (obsolete ones) I sell as a big lot of them. Have not came across the rest of those mentioned, so I wouldnt even know how to get rid of them.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: New locker in the rain/storm

Sounds like a good unit for $150. I think I'll start trying to hit the auctions on rainy days to see if the crowds are thinned out any.

Last time I went out on a rainy day there was still loads of people there.

I have loads of 45s and 33s. Are you still buying?

My guess is that unless one of the 1,800 people who don't post in the threads suddenly comes to life from San Antonio, you won't get an answer here.

Isn't your best bet to contact some authority in SA ?  If nothing else, I would guess the admins at the local flea market(s) could steer you in the right direction.

Sounds like you're putting money together from several sources and many others are doing the same thing right now. My compliments on pursuing many avenues. Selling goods is a good way to make money and if you can pick up some reasonable lkrs you should do OK as many people are buying used goods these days to help stretch their consumer dollars.

Thank you for the reply, guess that would be the best route is to contact the authorties to see what is what. Thanks
