The Lounge / Re: Sports Cards - Prefer local in East Texas

I have some good basketball cards, I'll have to take an inventory and shoot you a pm or email.

I used to collect cards when I was younger but I was collecting late 80's to early 90's s most of those cards are worth almost nothing. They take up space but for the little amount of money they would get me I'd rather hold onto them and give them to my kids someday.

I do have a lot of cards from auctions thogh. A few books of baseball cards all stars like Lebron, Jordan, Pippen, etc. I'll shoot you a pm after I get my stuff in order

You can pick up box trucks for pretty cheap off craigslist. One thing to think about is what kind of neighborhood do you live in? Are they strict about association rules if you have one?

If so a box truck will probably be a class b truck and many neighborhoods with homeowners associations wont let you park it in your driveway. My gf's dad just got rid of the Lincoln Truck because it has class b plates, they woudn't let him park his 50k lincoln truck in the driveway yet people can hav big ugly white constructoin vans b/c they are not class b.

In terms of cleanouts you talking about foreclosure cleanouts, apt cleanouts, etc? If so having a truck with a dump feature may be nice. Will totally cut down on time. Having to dump a ton or two or garbage takes a lot of time or a lot of man hours.

Before investing a bunch of money in a truck for auctions or for a cleanout business start our renting until you know this is something you want to do and that you can make money at it.

Do you currently drive something that can tow a trailer? If so maybe start out wtih a trailer and expand as you see necessary.

I have been wanting to buy a truck but am cheap and can't bring myself to get rid of my current car, figure I'll drive it into the ground first.

I normally am able to borrow facilities trucks free of charge, otherwise I borrow one from a buddy and if absolutely necessary rent one from home depot.

My origional thinking was renting a truck cuts into profits which is true but so does buying a truck in terms of initial price, insurance, high gas prices, etc.

I would get a large trailer open or closed depending upon what your looking for. Open trailer is nice in that stuff can hang out the top however closed is nice in the sense not only do you have something to transport items but a trailer can also act as temporary storage.

Craigslist / Re: I am about to get a lot of online selling practice

Yeah, my buddy is definately a die hard nascar nut, in addition to the normal stuff like car hoods, steering wheels, etc he also gets all the wierd collectibles too like cereral boxes and any product featurning nascar stuff or racers. He does have a new baby so may not be spending as much on fun stuff as before but he probably still would be intersnted in some items if they had his fav racers. Yeah look forward to seeing what you got. Thanks.

Nascar stuff should be pretty easy to sell though I imagne ike everything else with the economy prices of memorbilia and stuff has come down quite a bit but Nascar is hugely popular nad will be easy to sell, nothing like baseball cards in terms of difficulty.

A good buddy of mine is a nascar nut and actually into racing in general also into formula cars and all that stuff.

If you have a list of items nad maybe some pics either post or shoot me an email, my buddy may be intersted in a lot of it, just depends on where you are and how steep shipping would be. He has everything from car hoods down to die cast cars so may be interestd in a lot of stuff. Were in Chicago.

Anyhow, like I said if you put together a list shoot it to me at [email protected] and I'll pass it along to my buddy.

I think the whole regular posters is the issue. With new faces  you get new takes on a subject, new people sharing finds, new people asking advice. It's basically the same 4 or 6 of us gonig back and forth. I think if more people started getting involved in questions and answers things would be a lot more lively.

Have we covered everything there is to say about storage units? No. Have we coverd everything myself, movieman, ironman, jross, jose, mr a, and drew have to say to each other about storage units? Yes.

Basically my bottom line is if you were asked if storagewars and auction hunters is an accurate representation of the busines and what you find in a tuypical unit the answer is no.

Mr. A. I find good stuff all the time too but my good stuff tends to be a flat panel tv worth $500 an antique piece of furniture worth maybe a grand, I do not however find one of a kind historical pieces, vases worth thousands of dollars, etc.

Don't get me wrong I have found some pretty unique and cool thigns and even some great collectibles but overall my good stuff tends to be flat panel tv's high end furniture, etc not one of a kind collectibles, rare historical pieces, etc which tends to be majority of the type of stuff they show on these shows.

Also, you dont have to justify yourself to me but I don't see what harm it does sharing a good find. What do you think were going to come after you for taxes or something? Just doesn't seem like any reason to "not spill your finds" assuming you've already found it and flipped it.

I can gurantee your not finding storage wars type finds on a regular basis unless your buiyhng like 500 units plus a month and even then its few and far between your just buying so much volume your going to come across that stuff more often.

As for the site am I making a killing no I'm not, am I making some pretty good side money on something that requires little upkeepand is a rather passive source of extra income? Yes.

I made something like $160 off affiliate advertising last month plus a few hundred off ebooks and lists.

My reason for selling however is that I have a new project comming up that's going to require more of my time. Partnered up with a guy bringing a new product on the market and wants me to help market and distribute it.

I also have a buddy who recently started a travel business that I'm helping him out with and am going on a long trip to the caribbean for a few months this summer and don't really want to be regularly updating sites.

My other thing is that though the site is pretty easy as far as updates and upkeep its mindless, it's basically just retyping up info I get via email. I actually enjoy writing and doing things that require thought and would like to devote more time to other sites and other projects.

Website for sale.

Website is freestorageauctionlists(dot)com

You get the domain for the next two years with privacy feature. You also get the blogger domain freestorageauctionlists(dot)blogspot(dot)com. You get the blogger account associated with the website. You get a yahoo email address with all the contacts. I'll also throw in 6 months of banner advertising directing people to your new site on several of my other sites. I'll also let you continue selling our ebook and storage auction lists and give you an 80/20 split on the revenue from those materials 80% going to you.

If interested shoot me a private message and I can give you more info about traffic, advertisers and ad revenue, etc.

I've done several of those website appraisals. They are totally inaccurate but just for ****s and giggles my high appraisal is $24,000 my low appraisal is $4.

All offers will be entertained.

Mr. A were kinda playing semantics here with fake vs staged.

If I asked you how does the auctions as well as findings on shows like storage wars and auction hunters compare to the actual auctions you attend in terms of how they go, prices, and what they find in units, and asked you to rate it on a scale of 1-10 what would you say?

My guess would be below 3. This is why I say it's fake/staged, it's not an accurate representation of what auctions are like, what you find, etc.

855
It's not totally fake I agree. Its not like the pawn stars pawn shop is just a set and doesn't exist and its not like the characters are actors. It is staged and not an authentic situation though.

Like I said though, it's understandable because the normal everyday goings on of a pawn shop aren't going to be as exciting as people bringing in major pieces of history and one of a kind items.

A show that's fake was that black gold show about the oil guys. A buddy of mine moved down to Odessa and he said they were actually having casting calls for the show, bringing out guys hwo had never set foot on a rig, just looking for entertaining, good looking, etc guys. The whole show is fake.

So no pawn stars, storage wars, etc aren't fake like that but they are staged and staged isn't authentic and is kinda fake.
