Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hello People
« on: December 25, 2011, 11:41:41 AM »
One of the things I see is new people who come out and have no respect for people who do this for a living. Last auction some rich kid showed up along with all the other "new gamblers" and was having a big time bidding up $25 units and laughing about it. The couple that usually buys these type of units look like they are $20 away from living under an interstate overpass. I see them every time at the flea market trying to make a living. I don't know what this kid does for a living, but Im sure nobody comes to where he works and makes him spend or lose a whole lot of money just for kicks.

What this kid doesn't know is he has just guaranteed himself this will be a very expensive hobby.  ;D

Thank You! and love the animation.

I second the "duh" comment. ;D

Definitely one of the advantages to this business. One word of advice, depending on the temperment of your family and friends, you may not want to tell them you got thier gifts from storage auctions. Some people can get "snobbish" about things like that.

It never becomes the property of the storage company. It's the property of the person that leased the storage unit, then it becomes the legal property of the high bidder at the auction.

Not so fast! In my state the facility owner is not required to auction of the contents of storage units. Once they have met all the legal requirements, they can take possesion of the contents. This is how some facilities in my area do and are known for going through units and taking the good stuff out. They take possession one month and then auction it off the next month.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: "Wished I had the Money to do That"
« on: December 15, 2011, 07:26:29 AM »
Curious, does the site explain why they don't want people supporting storage buyers??

Also, what do you tell your customers when they ask where you got such & such items??

I say auctions, estate sales, flea markets, yard sales. I don't preface "storage" auctions. Sometimes people ask directly if they are from storage auctions and I will tell them yes.

Another biggie is" did this come from a house with smokers or pets". Since so many people have alergies and asthma nowadays, I'm and always as honest as possible. If I know for sure it came from a house with smokers and/or pets, I tell them yes.

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Hunters is FAKE!!!
« on: December 15, 2011, 07:15:05 AM »
Yeah, it's fake. I was working on the crew, helped load the stuff into the rooms for them to act like they were bidding on it. it just supposed to be fun to watch, nobody in their right mind would think it's real. When we went to Dallas, the extra bidders were all extras, we rented a storage place for two days, loaded the stuff into the rooms, and shot the script. The guys "bid" on the rooms, then act amazed when they find the stuff. After we got thru, we took all the stuff we got locally back to the pawn shops, etc where we rented it from. Some of it we rented in L. A. The scripts were written around what we could find beforehand that was interesting, and some of it was written in later when we found it locally. We went into the pawn and antique shops, asked what they had that was really valuable, old or unusual, and rented it from them. we did our shoot, and returned it all. Simple as that. Hell, the "North Texas" shoot (Everything is Bigger in Texas) wasen't even shot in Texas, it was filmed in Lawton Oklahoma. In real life, those storage rooms are full of crap. We had to put some good stuff in there, or it's boring. All the "storage" type reality shows are faked. We have to, or no one would watch it.

Yea but the country is full of people in their "wrong" minds! Thats why $50 units are selling for $500 now. Since you are in the TV business, can you get the producers to do shows about flea markets and thrift stores and show how buying typical used household junk for $1, $5, $10, etc. can make you hundreds and thousands of dollars.

I can see it now, you can get Alan & Ton to come to my flea market and buy everything of my tables for $1000 then show all the antiques & collectibles they found for a profit of $3000! I can't wait, we are counting on you to make this happen!

The Treasure Chest / Re: WWII German items found today!!
« on: December 14, 2011, 07:58:07 AM »
Neat! WWII German helmets are all almost worth more then $125. I sold one for $1.750 once and I gave the guy a good deal cause I had only paid $700 for it, most, if they have the liners and decals, go for at least $300 to $400 many will go higher. I have had a number of them and they sell well.  Gas masks are not high dollar items but still neat worth maybe around $75 give or take a bit.

If you find U.S. WWI & WWII gear it also sells good in Europe. Just put it on Ebay and open your auction to international customers.

There was not a church that would take the bibles?  Just thinking not sure what we will have to do with ours yet. Drop them off at the steps.  Throwing them away would feel wrong. but you have to what you have to do.

Bibles in nice shape can be sold on Amazon, Ebay, or flea market. Donate the scruffy, but still useable Bible's to Salvation Army, churches, homeless shelters, etc.

Brandi and Jarrod...made $5K.  I've been going to the wrong auctions !

Yea I know, people don't understand you just don't find stuff like that in the rest of the country. Now Movieman, if you moved out to California and did the auctions out there you would probably strike it rich once a month too!! Oh wait a minute...

Good luck, some of the other folks from Michigan say the economy is really bad there, so selling has been kinda tuff. It will be interesting to here your experiences.

Starting to get off topic, but I am amazed at how much transexual (folks with both sets of sex organs) porn I find in units. Must be a real popular underground/in the closet fetish in are society I did not know about.

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Storage Wars Texas...Fall, 2011

Moe’s crystal ball….Oh yeah…I found one of those in the 3rd locker I bought 8 years ago..of course it came from the 99 cent store…his good for $100 and the antique fortune telling cards…valued at….$350.  I found those too, but they had pictures of pandas and elephants….my value… $1.50.

I got a pack of unopened/original seal and tax stamp playing cards from the 1940s-1950s I could'nt sell for .99 cents on Ebay. Guess I don't have the right "dealers" in my area.  ::)

Picker's Paradise / Re: Your Favorite Non-Storage Source For Product?
« on: December 13, 2011, 07:14:05 AM »
I voted other. I have started going to auction houses for furniture to supplement my inventory. Granted there is no "WOW" factor, and the profit margins are much smaller, but it helps keep some inventory in the line when storage auctions are few and too expensive.
