@ jross i know its a bit of a double edged sword. also i know respect is earned over time. but i just dont want to bid on a unit and way pay way over what the unit should actually go for thanks to these new shows. cal me a bit old fashioned even though im probably one of the youngest members here.

New to Storage Auctions? / another noob question... go figure.
« on: August 09, 2011, 03:12:05 PM »
well as yall know by my previous posts i am a complete noob. but unlike most the other noobs out there starting out in this business i actually respect the veteran buyers and dont want to disrespect them and drive the prices up so not much profit to be made by me or other buyers.
i guess what my question is is how does a noob bid successfully and not drive the prices up for a locker that looks good and could make a profit on without bidding to high?
i actually got started doing these by watching auction hunters and i have actually studied there behind the scenes on how to bid and what to do and all that but wanted yalls take on this so i could actually gain the respect from the vets and be able to make a profit/living from these and some of yall do.
any advice would be helpful thanks.

General Storage Auction Talk / partnerships??? good or bad??
« on: August 08, 2011, 03:00:24 PM »
i was talking to my dad a bit ago and he said he was thinking about getting into these as a way to make a little money? now since he has had 6 back surgeries and i have a small amount of money to work with imo it would be beneficial for both of us to work together since i can lift and i know the ropes for the most part and i also know what to look for thanks to all my beautiful research and talking to people. i figured with me doing most of the work and bidding and him just supplying a little extra money and posting items to sell online and knowing more people that would want items that we would split the profits down the middle.

would this be a good idea to get into a partnership or would it be a bad idea and cause more trouble?

theres also things we are both looking for and that we could both use thanks to the economy and all and we know what each other wants to keep and all.

any ideas or any kind of advice would be helpful...

probably a dumb question in my world but whats the best way to network to get items to move fast so i can have more room for inventory?

Also probably not sure about this as to what kind of response i would get but anyways... i am lookin to do this full time without opening a resale shop or anything of the like. i am going to be aiming for at least 200-300 dollars a week profit or about 1000 a month profit. i will be doing flea markets along with ebay, CL, maybe amazon. is this a reasonable amount or should i shoot for less and hope for more?

to add to jross79's theres also 'call blocker'. its usually a free service through your phone company. you just need to have the number you want blocked and once its in place you wont be bothered by that number anymore and you will still have all your contacts without losing money with google numbers or any of the like.
the only reason i know about this is cause of my ex. she blocked me after she cheated on me with her ex husband lol.

@tclane so what i get from you is that if this is a screw up then it doesnt matter since it says 1130 pm thats when it will be due to laws and such?
if this is the case then it will be very interesting since its on a saturday and all

well it would make sense that it was an error and someone was being funny. but at the same time how many bidders do you think would come out at 1130 pm just to get a locker? i will check with them when it gets closer to the auction date just to make sure.

Just think of the awesome treasures you could find in Bram Stokers lkr. or maybe the gorey treasures you dont want to find

General Storage Auction Talk / confused about times
« on: August 02, 2011, 08:17:07 PM »
well i was calling around to facilities to see when and if they have auctions and what times they are. i came across this place not to far from me that is having an auction mid this month i asked them the units and there are three up for bid and then i asked the time. they said the auction was at 1130 pm.
has anyone had an experience or what is this facility doing? any input would be most welcomed as i am confused. i thought auctions were held in the morning and sometimes late afternoon

New to Storage Auctions? / how to build up a clientel
« on: July 31, 2011, 06:50:52 PM »
ive been reading on some posts about how having a proper clientel and such is important. now i know to move items you can post them on CL, amazon, ebay and flea markets. but as for other items i guess more of less speciality items or more valuable items if one does come across them. how would you move them fast to make room for other lkrs?
also just out of curiousity around where i live furniture does not sell well as people dont have much money and arent buying. how would i move furniture fast or other large items that i might get that would be useless to be leaving around?

im seeing some of yall say that you need at least 'x' amount of dollars to be in this business successful. what about those just starting out that dont have that kind of money and are only starting out with say 300-400 dollars that we had to scrimp and scrounge for just to start this?

well i just got done writing 4 counties of storage units which is about give or take 80 facilities with phone numbers and addresses. i still have 2 or 3 counties left to do. i think it will make it easier to call them in the long run and this way i can cross off which facilities are not good and which ones i wont go back to. just got about 100+ more facilities left to write out. tomorrow is going to be a long day calling these places

i hear ya chefj. i want to move to arizona cause of the job market down there for mechanics plus i want to go to UTI and buy ahouse down there. only problem is as of right now i have to many bills from this crappy economy. thats why im doing these auctions is to be able to pay off some bills save some money and leave for a better life and better lkrs in az. i heard some stories down there about indian relics and very old antiques that go for a really pretty penny.

but heres the good and bad of here from the people ive talked to and what i see happening. people have no money around here so things go for really cheap including  units. ( no money = cheaper lkrs? seems right) also thrift stores and flea markets arent doing well cept for one which is just every monday but thats also a farm auction also. most thrift stores and flea markets have gone out of business due to lack of business. with the exception of my other post from the auction from cass city which i found out was also a farm, construction, and about 5 other auctions all in one ( hence why so many people) big units+small prices+ no money for people to buy= help?
