South West / Whats the auction life in DFW area like?
« on: November 22, 2011, 08:09:57 AM »
Lets just say I may be moving down to Fort Worth within the next 8-10 months, whats the scene down there like?  Up here I have a sweet spot, do they exist down in DFW(Not asking where just if they exist)?  What are the auction bidder and lookey loos like?  I ask because some auctions here get 20 bidders and 80 or so lookers and some have 10 bidders and no lookers.  What are prices like? Here I see routine $300-1000 bids, so just curious if I can expect the same down south?

I have been debating how they as pickers make any profit.  You always see them on the road and I'm assuming they are only showing the really good finds, but how the hell are they making an income?  Between Gas, Food, repairs, nd lodging, thos profit margins have to be razor razor then.

10x30's etc are the crazy ones.

I loved getting the one I got then reality set in when I realized that hey your not going to be moving all this product in one week and that your most likely going to be in the storage locker for at least a month. oddly enough my 10x30 has been a great teaching tool as to treat this as a business and get maximum value for my items well moving them quickly and that I really need to get a huge trailer or truck. I am realizing skimping on things in this business has it's drawbacks!

never knew that you need a resale licenses

IMO

I would hold off on ever getting a resale license until your literally forced too. The less Uncle Sam knows about your side ventures and life the better.

because noobs dont know any better or is there a reason why noobs pay it?

Nah people who pay sales tax usually don't have resale licenses so they tax it on resale. I haven't paid sales tax because my units have been at mom and pop places that don't ask for resale license #'s. National chains are another story.

Yes, you do, but Malone is simply telling you that you have to account for that when making your bid.
If you brought $500 you could only bid $400 to $450 since you would have to pay the deposit as well.

AND, if you pay sales tax (which most newbies do) you have to account for that too, BEFORE you bid.

Haven't paid sales tax yet here!

You can certainly start out small.  Started with around $400, currently have about $1300 with probably another 1300 in items I need to sell.  3rd unit is turning out to be the 1 in 50 units unit.  Then again I would expect most 10x30's will be rather nice as quantity is usually high and something is almost certainly missed.

Preying on the uninformed, brilliant(to quote the guniess guys).

I always love finding the localized(I don't want to hassle with storage wars crowds facilities! Have about 4 places so far I have found, just waiting to have 2 of them hold auctions.
