Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: 500K in Pirate treasure
« on: November 15, 2011, 08:30:46 AM »
I have not seen a locker hit $1,000 yet.   There have been $700 & $800 lockers but that is as high as they get.  Crowds vary from 10 to 60 bidders.

Well I think the timing of this is just right. The new season of storage wars kicks off tonight. What a great way to promote the show than to talk about a $500,000 dollar locker. Of course this will also have the auctions packed and price will go up. At the same time I have yet to see a $1,000 locker never mind some of the $5,000 ones that are on the shows.

Yeah really. Would like to see the out come of that.

If I want to pay my storage unit with a cc I can. This is no different.

The silent auctions here (two that I've been to) will wait until all units are sold and then only give the name of the person who won it. I'm not a big fan of that.

I don't think you will see many ruined lives because storage auctions will take cc's. It may cause some to over bid but you get them with cash only auctions as well. There are a couple that will take cc here but they will only get cash from me.

I just don't see how everything  can be complete dump runs. If he keeps spending $825 on a locker and takes it all to the dump and has bought 8 losers so far he can buy some where around 10 more lockers and he is done.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How do you handle the guy that

You have to bid higher than him if you want it. I don't know how else you can handle it.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Ripoff auction
« on: November 08, 2011, 11:16:27 AM »
Went to an auction in Athens, Ga. on Saturday.
This establishment was owned & operated by two men of Middle Eastern origins. ::)
Every locker that they took us to, had already been unlocked that morning.
There were seven units, even though the paper only listed 6. There was NOTHING of value in any of the units. The units that did have furniture in them, were packed so poorly, that it was obvious that things were just thrown in. I mean thrown in, in such a way, that the furniture was damaged.
One unit had a Vizio 46" LCD TV box in it. Closer inspection with a flashlight, showed that the box was empty. Who stores an empty TV box?
It was so obvious, that these units had been rummaged through & picked clean.
I was fairly pissed when we left. What a waste of time!

Being that I live in an apartment with very little storage space I have a storage locker. I keep my camping gear and a bunch of other things. My empty tv box is there in case I move I still have. I have empty camera boxes and lens boxes as well. I have about $20,000 invested in camera gear so I want boxes in case I move or go to resell them as I will get more for them. If I stopped paying for my locker and it went up for auction all them empty boxes are in there.

Just because there is a box does not not mean that there is anything in it.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Cut locks
« on: November 08, 2011, 06:53:41 AM »
Very common practice. I have only been to one where they cut off the owners locks, all others had the tag and facilities lock. The units owner could show up 5 min. before the auction and pay up. Then go to their locker and if something is missing someone would have some explaining to do. Some places to it to advertise some of the items to advertise the units for bigger crowds. As you go to more auctions you will see this.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: I have the keys and the title...
« on: November 08, 2011, 06:40:43 AM »
Do he right thing and give the owner of the car the title. It would be one thing if the car was in the storage unit and you found the title but it was not. I was under the impression that if any paper work is found it should be returned. Karma goes along way.

An old Martin guitar hidden away would be sweet.

You should not worry about anything being taken from the locker. The person who owns the locker can pay-up 5 mins before the auction and if something is missing from their locker someone would have some explaining to do.

I'm not sure if it is a good sign or not. It means they are all fighting to see who gets the best ratings. Now there will be 3 storage auction shows on Tuesday at 10pm. There is Storage Wars, Auction Hunters and the worst one of them all on Tru TV Storage Hunters ( Jerry Springer type show).

Some times the silent auctions can be good as you set a price that you would pay for the locker and you stick to it. When bidding it is easy to get caught up in the rush and over pay for a unit.

Storage Hunters is the Jerry Springer of storage auctions.  This means there will be 3 shows on Tuesday at 10pm as Storage Was is moving to Tuesday at 10 on Nov 15th.
