Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #1...January, 2012

I had mentioned in another thread that I was going to attend a PS auction today, but after some thought, I'm skipping it.

We are in the classic inventory rich/cash poor situation and I need to focus on the sell-side. Ebay is offering free listings today and tomorrow on top of the normal 50/month promotion. I plan on getting about 10 listings up today and then using up the rest of my 50 this weekend.

It's a lot of listings, so I'll be spending most of my day working on that. Now, off to take pics.

"Say Cheese!"  ;D

Movieman sounds like you have something that is draining the battery like a light in the glovebox that doesn't go out when closed, underhood light doing the same, just something somewhere not going off when you shut down.  This can be a real pain to find.  Good luck!

My first vehicle had this same issue. I resorted to unplugging the battery when parked. Yes, it is a less-than-stellar fix, but was cheap and not that hard.

Texas legal notices require a brief description of contents and her listing stated "Appliances/Furniture."

Again, it says nothing of quailty. Could be some good pieces, but most likely old stuff that got replaced in the house.

I suppose I will find out tomorrow.

eBay / Re: Joe Paterno

The one important thing to remember about celebrity death sales is to sell when the iron is hot. Michael Jackson vinyls went from $2 to $20-30 and now back to $2.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are people who jump on these sorts of heightened sales at the time of a celebrity death.

For me, it's less about Paterno in particular and more about this predictable pattern.

and...

Lookee here what I done saw....
a promo on SW original for SW Texas starting in March, 2012...season 2.  Yikes, season one went fast...don't know how many episodes it was, but didn't seem like more than 6 or so.

The one interesting note I have about the promo: NO MO' MOE?!?

I may have missed him, but I did not see Moe anywhere on that promo.

Sorry, MovieMan, but my post was directed at bwd. He has over 250 posts on this forum and 235 of them are reports bashing SW with info he has researched, from ratings to contract info, to who knows what.

Just seems like a lot of time and effort on something he claims he hates.

General Storage Auction Talk / Researching Tenants
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:45:33 PM »
I know we've had discussions here on the boards about researching the defaulting tenants, but I had never bothered.

Well, I was reviewing a legal notice for an auction I plan on attending on Thursday and decided to look up one of the names just to see what I could find.

I did find her. Name, address, age, relatives living with her.

She's 64 and living with two male relatives in there 70s. She lives about a mile from me, where she has lived for almost twenty years. I didn't learn anything about her career-wise.

But, I realized. I don't want to know. It hasn't given me any indication of what kind of value I will find in the locker. Fact is, I'll still have to wait with everyone else until that door is opened and determine what I will pay for what is in front of me. That said, I think the less personal it is, the better.

Anyhow, this is the monthly Public Storage auction, run by their district manager and only publicized in the legal notice, so normally a manageable crowd. Will report in the Auction Scene thread.

I think at this point most people realize that reality show participants are paid, regardless of any scripting that may be going on. And by the way, they should be paid. You want to follow me around with an on-site producer, boom operator and cameraman and have me do interview segments on top of that, you better make it worth it for me.

What I'm curious about is why do you, as someone who claims to hate the show so much, spend so much damned time researching and reporting and "whistle-blowing" Storage Wars?!?

As someone who enjoys watching the show, I spend far less time enjoying it than you do hating on it.

Hell, do what you want, but it seems to me you would be better served spending your time doing something productive.

eBay / Joe Paterno
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:29:14 AM »
You all may or may not have heard that the legendary college football coach Joe Paterno died.

I hate to sound like a heartless bastard, but all the Paterno stuff listed on ebay seems to be getting bid up pretty strong. If you guys have anything Paterno or Penn State related, you may want to list it on e-bay now.

I suppose it's something we should all keep in the back of our minds as we sort through our celebrity memorabilia items. It might suck, but death sells.

Just the other day I found a never used Zippo light in a box of this from my parents house.  It has the logo of Liberty National Life Insurance on it my how things have changed.  I am going to see if it is worth anything since it has not sentimental value.

I was browsing an antique mall over the weekend and saw a display case with a few zippos. I own about a dozen, so i was curious about what they had.

They had a new in box Zippo from 1973 from a national boy scout convention. The fact that lighters were part of a boy scout event just shows how much things have changed.

That is one problem with tobacco items, though. As smoking becomes less popular, so do the related "collectables."

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: How far are you willing to travel?

Luckily, we live in a metro area that has a substantial number of facilities just within our normal day-to-day travel radius, so travelling to find auctions isn't really a concern of ours. Hell, we've got three storage places within walking distance.

Like hanging out on this forum?......I know~I should be thinking about ebaying......but alas.....I don't want to. I don't want to! I don't want to!!!

This is why I'll take a dozen photos, then transfer them to the PC and check the boards. Makes it feel less like work!!

Funny how different eyes see different things~

I'm thinking this is the storage equivalent to "beer goggles."

People expect to see treasure, so they trick themselves into seeing it.

Hey, Rockin'-

If you have trouble moving those stock certificates, let me know and I'll make an offer on them, based on condition, etc.

No hurry. Feel free to take your time with 'em.
