Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?

We are 2 miles down a winding lime rock road. With swamp on both sides. Looks like you are driving to no where.  :D

Princess Fiona?   Hey!    Say hi to Shrek for me.

Jeez.

The value of something is only what someone is willing to pay.

Thank you!
Wish everyone could understand this.

On the selling side too. So many times I've sold something and a friends has said it was worth more.
Tell them not to me! I want it gone, need the money, space, whatever.
Sitting on something for 6months to make another $50 when in that time I coulda used the money from the sale to turn and burn ten more items over for x-amount makes no sense to me.....

The auctions are usually only at distribution center and less noe that they sell/auction online.
You have a 50/50 chance on some good pick'n tho.
They seem to have two philosophies....one is to fill new stores with all the crap from other stores or they pick all the sweet stuff to stock it with to build interest.  Hopefully your in an upper middle class area. Around here those a,re the store with good stuff.....

Also found size doesn't matter much, at least here. Seems the bigger the store, the bigger the women's and children section of clothes. All other departments are about the same.

Drop off is good for me. (tho I use value village).
I dont take the tax write off.   Instead I take the 10% voucher. Go pick.
So close you can hit everyday!

Was this a regular storage place or someplace special since it had construction stuff?

Regular storage.
Just started hitting some of my old area's where do to the area a lot of people use self storage as warehouse's.  Lot of small construction, heat/air, plumbing companies run fom home.
Good for scrap metal, wood, cabinets and marble....and tools.

Don't forget people you can sell your broken electronics and cell phones on Ebay also.

Naw. They send them to me so I can break them even more and get really frustrated.    >:(

That whole plan did not work out well.  lol
Tho I am getting better......I mean.....the sh*t still don't work but......oh never mind.  :-\

I'm gonna assume you posted on wrong thread.....
But I get your point. I got Nivea body wash for 50cents at Target with coupons so bought 20.

It just seems they sell very high price items like teeth whitening strips that re $30 for $10.  Crew is $17 and they sell at $4.  Allegra is $27 and they sell for $5.   It's all very spendy but SMALL items tht are easily stolen.
Can see some coupon savvy-ness but week after week?

But thanks for the idea!  Next coupon deal I do I'm stocking up and selling!!   ;D

The key to selling with them is to have the lowest price for the item listed.

That's bullsh*t.
Next you will be telling us the best way to make a profit is to buy items for less than we sell them for......

Flea Markets / Re: Stole Goods at swap meets <question>
« on: May 22, 2012, 07:25:27 PM »
We don't have much counterfeit goods. Ours is mostly lawn equipment and anything you would store in your car.
The most obvious is the shoplifted goods. Crew, Aveno, Nivea...all for $2-$4.  Axe body spray for $1.

There was even a Dateline investigation on the shoplifting along the I-5 corridor for organized crime groups. Pay people to shoplift certain goods than sell at swap meets and eBay. All the grocery stores, walmarts and the like that are right off the freeway have a way higher loss rate than those farther away from freeway on ramps.

Only made it thru the first facility before I was ready to call it a day but felt good to get out there.

One went for $450. Construction unit tht I'm sure they will make a nice profit but to much heavy lifting for me. Just the stuff I could see easily added up to $500-$600 and it was packed deep.
Another construction unit was pretty empty and went for $5. Only interest was a chainsaw case, don't know if it had a chainsaw, and some old hot water heaters. Again, lotta lifting for me right now.

Only two I bid on was a 3x4, pack full.  Spotted a bag with xBox 360 cables, controllers....Saw no Xbox.
And thru a crack I could see a jewelry box and in a grocery bag a bunch of folded up Tiffany bags and ring/braclet boxes from Zales and Kay's.  From listening I heard people talk about those but nothing on jewelry box or xBox components. Was hoping but bidding went to $650 in a flash. Which for what you could see was a bit to risky for me but they will probably at least break even even if jewelry isn't there

Other I bid on was just 20 totes. I bid up to $125. Bidding kept going to $825!!
It was last so kind lingered and lady was opening totes and it was all Xmas decorations and paper, ribbons...and not collectables.
Like someone ran a Xmas wrapping booth over Xmas and figured why am I paying storage and let it go.
Got lucky being outbid there!

Anyway, was good to get out again and pleased the crowds were down. Prices were pretty good over all, inventory just wasn't for me today.  And I got on this auctioneers email notification. So that alone made today worth while.

Only good thing about being off work. Got plenty of time to wait around and let a good locker come to me!  ;D

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist observations

In hind sight, yeah, I see a shift. Never paid attention.
I'm thinking, with my listings, is I've had pretty specific demographic items listed.
Add that I do this for enjoyment, hobby, little extra cash....whatever you want to call it, so I list pretty low as it is. Move fast and move on.
So between they are not looking to resale but want for themselves and good price.....
But it use to be nearly every listing I had majority off calls trying to really talk me down. Like pennies on the dollar. Lately it's been a few but most seem to want haggle for the fun of haggling. Knock off five bucks and they are happy.

As for scams...
Right now I have several sets of floor mats and all weather floor mats. Not a single email
Very specific items. Have to find a person that wants new mats and has the exact car I'm selling for.
But was expecting the work from home scam emails.....but nothing.

Theory?
I can only guess that that scams are down due to CL being a bit more on top of things. Being hit so hard by fed's over the whole CL killings they are over seeing things more.....?

People trying to haggle?  Im thinking cause a lot of people are getting back to work, economy is getting better (slightly). Not so many people are desperate and vultures aren't circling.

I've found never to trust any company that offers useless guarantees. If they start the relationship that way what else are they going to do?

So this site offers:
100% Money Back Guarantee!  We offer a 100% money back guarantee.  There is no fine print to our guarantee.  Our 100% money back guarantee is: "If you're a subscribing client (with a current paid account) for three consecutive months and you are dissatisfied with the information and offers you've received, all you have to do is tell us why you are dissatisfied and provide us with proof that you attended at least half of the auctions we alerted you to, for said three month period, and we will send you a complete refund for the previous paid three months.  Yes, it's just that simple.

So.....?
PROOF I attended HALF the auction and you'll refund my money?
Define proof?  How do I do that?

Then....half?
The ad says you have 500 listings a month. Even if not, the listings are from Vancouver to Bellingham. Yakima, Spokane....?
Most auctions are tue/wed.  You list 30 on tue in a 100mile area and I'm gonna be able to hit maybe 10 if caravan.
Totally impossible to hit half of all auctions going on in a month.

Plus what if they are cancelled? List 10. 9 cancelled.  Now I gotta make up 4 another day to avg out half?

Anyone actually sign up and check these guys out?

Friends wife's project.....
Dresser with broken drawer.
Tore out the insides. With staple and glue gun lined the inside with 1/8 inch sheets of wood. Put in brackets and shelves. Stained.

Depending on the insides you would have vary the process I think......but the basic idea is dresser to shelving.

She's working on another to put the old kitchen cabinet doors on the front.

Pretty much just estate sales for me lately.
Did the big swap meet down south today. Didn't pick sh*t and none of the regulars that are willing to buy were there so no sales either.  But got cheap authentic Mexican for lunch. That was good.
Did get a bunch of tolietries.  Nivea, Crew.....all for $2-$3ea.  I never buy that stuff there cause Im pretty sure it's all shoplifted. But I'm not working and it's cheap.   :-\

Hit some thrifts on way back and picked some goodies.
Bunch of belkin iPod nano accessories, brand new in box. Grab bag for $2.99.  One piece retails for $30.

And enough time to hit some estates but they were pretty well gone thru.
Made some notes and will check sunday night for the 50% on a couple items if thy are still there. Local so no big deal to return.

Finally have enough to do a CL run on items though. Get it all organized, photos and all and posted next sat morn.....

[Update]
One grab bag for $1.99 I got for the herb grinder in it. Looked it up and it's a sought after item.
BIN on eBay for $50 with broken handle and well used. Mine looks brade new.
Bunch of forums talk about it and people trying to find....and here I just thought it was cool!  ;D
