General Storage Auction Talk / Re: keeping track of customers
« on: October 11, 2012, 10:08:41 AM »
We just have printed out fill in forms. If someone comes into the store, and is looking for something in particular,we hand them the list, and they fill in the sections... NAME,PHONE,and WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR.

Then whenever we getin any new stuff,we just look over the list, and give them a call. Alot of them are always looking for cetain types of things, and have become regulars,so as soon as we see a certain item,we just know who would be interested.

That would be a GREAT first sale for you on eBay !  ;D

Edit:

Just went back to look at it again and went to the bottom where you pointed readers to another account dating from 2003 which has over 250 feedback. Wondering why (if the other account is yours) you decided to open a NEW account with zero feedback for offering this and your other items?

This actually out of a unit that my Mom's boyfriend bought. They recently opened a thrift store, and I have been put in charge of selling the higher end items that would'nt sell in a thrift store on Ebay, and I get paid a percentage of the ending cost. They opened another account so that they could have a account for business sells, and have the other one for just personal use.

The Treasure Chest / Recent find in newest locker...

Was going through some boxes of what I thought was just your usual camping gear, and came across this leather bag. Unzipped it,and found the largest fishing reel I have ever seen. After some research I found out that it is for big game fish. It looks like it has never been used, still has  the tag on it instructing to remove the handle when not in use.

It's a FIN-NOR 12/0 Special Trolling Reel,I have found out that they no longer make these reels,so they are considered "legacy" reels, and they usually retail for almost $2,000.00  ;D

If anyone is interested,I currently have it on Ebay...

One of my friendly competitors almost makes a science of gettig lkrs with appliances....maybe because the sides of his 20 foot box truck say "Maytag" and have a pic of the Maytag man !

Anyway, he gets a lot of them and typically sells ones like you described in the $400 to $500 range. It's a hell of a lot easier to ask a price and come down than it is to ask a price and go up !  ;D

That's very true! Thank for the reply. :)

I won a unit yesterday, and I have a MAYTAG Side by Side Refrigerator with Ice Dispenser. Needs to be wiped out,but other than that it looks like new. How much oes everyone typically get for such an item?

I looked it up,and it retails for $965,so would I be pushing it if I asked $500.00?

This is the first time I have got a refrigerator in a unit,so I thought I would ask here.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Clothes- how does everyone do?
« on: June 22, 2012, 12:31:44 AM »
Depends on what kind of clothes. Kids clothes seems to move fast when sorted into groups by size, and girl or boy. My Mom,and her boyfriend are in the process of setting up a warehouse to sell out of rather than just having weekly yard sales. There is a lady that is always buying kids clothes from them. The adult clothes seem to move slower, but they have purchased clothes racks from a local store, they were putting in new racks,so they got them for cheap, and don't have to worry about them getting trampled.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: How far are you willing to travel?

I live in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, I used to live in North Texas (Denton) then San Antonio, now the McAllen area.  Storage auctions are far and few between here.  That being said I will drive to San Antonio to go to a Uncle Bob's auction, it's a 2 day auction and they cut the lock in front of you.  So, I will drive 250 miles one way with a trailer for a 2 day auction and I see other people from the RGV at these auctions.

2 day auction? I have never heard of an auction that last days. How many units?

Stories about Storage Auctions / How far are you willing to travel?

Last week I went on a storage auction spree. First auction started at 8:00am in my town, next was in Cloverdale, they had some really good units, but went way over what I had to spend. Then there were four auctions in Santa Rosa, all at different storage places. I did'nt get home till 7:30pm. I was really disappointed by the units in Santa Rosa, there was 11 units auctioned off at one storage facility, and all of them were crap.

How far are you willing to travel?

My aunt just recently got a unit that had two trunks full of cards. One trunk had I think maybe 5 binders full of cards, the other trunk had mostly loose ones. She hasn't gone through them, just wants to sell them.

What are you offering?

Wow. I think I might have found that unit a little fascinating. Slides you could easily sell,as far as the body parts, you might want to go to a hospital, and talk to them about where you should dispose of medical waste.

I first heard about storage auctions, about 2 years ago. My cousins boss at the time was into buying storage units, and she learned about it through him. She them bought a unit, and asked if I would sell some ornaments that she found. I asked her where she got them, thus she told me about storage auctions.

Went to my first one about a year ago,won 2 units that day. One for $45,and then other for $130

I picked up 3 Zebra Thermal Printers for free. I took them home, plugged them in to make sure they powered on. They all did,so I listed them on Ebay, explaining that I had not personaly printed with them, but that they did power on. Sold all three for a profit of $1,075.00  ;D

General Storage Auction Talk / Where do you buy/bid on sea containers?
« on: October 10, 2011, 01:23:22 AM »
I have heard of people buying full sea containers, and I have searched the internet on where to buy/bid on them, but have found nothing.

Anyone know? All help will be greatly appreciated. :)

So you just cut the end that plugs into the wall off? or do you strip them too?

I personally would strip it,you get more for clean copper than insulated.
