American Auctioneers have invaded just about every storage unit auction in my area lately.  5x5s are $500 to $1000.00 and up. On Friday we had several hundred people show up and not one unit started for under $100.00 and these were the units where the auctioneer used to pay you $5 to take them......................Rant................ give it a few months till peoples tax money runs out.

Like others have said. Collectibles just are not selling right now. The smart people are buying collectibles, like expensive art, but getting them extremely cheap and holding them. You can can sell them super cheap or hold them for a few years.  What is selling are things that people need everyday to get by. Appliances, tools, and for us, a clothes.  Collectibles will get a good price when you find the right "Buyer", but that will take time. They just aren't the type of items that are turn and burn.  If your looking for quick sells for good money look for items that people have to have.  While collectibles can bring good money. You have to be patient. They may sell tomorrow they may sell next year.

Congrats on your locker. That is a hell of a good price as far as prices go the last two years.

Meanwhile, did well at flea on Sat the 10th and bought some good tools on Sunday the 11th which should do well on eBay. Picking still doing well for me.


[Just wondering what is a large crowd for you guys?  We are getting 50 to 200 people on a regular basis.

Have been going to "un-advertised auctions" and flipping appliances on craigslist.

Whats the highest you would bid on a 40x40 full of lcd tvs and other items like dell computers and vacuum cleaners.  With lets say over 300 tvs maybe 100 in the box. Looking like a customer return locker.  ?? No idea weather they work or not.

OMG that's was funny.  In this same unit there were about 10 large plastic containers of nude photos of the lady that owned the unit. It was weird because that is excessive. Maybe about one box of family pics.

I picked up a storage unit in the little town of Dana Point California! One of the most affluent towns in the nation.  10 x 25 only $2200.00.  Seems expensive but I'm going to more than triple my money. 

Anyways I finally get to the back. In the back right corner I find a really old chest.  Open up the chest and there are some old family photos and some really old dolls. At the bottom of the the chest there is a bag from the apple store with a black box in it. Hmm weird to find an apple store bag in here.  I pull the black box out to read the label on it. I pulled it out sideways and the lid popped open and this white to gray looking dust spilled out and went all over me. I turn it upright and the box label I can barely make out. It f-ning says crematory on it.  bla bla bla remains of ......!!!! Yes I got sick to my stomach.  As I'm upchucking my wife keeps going whats wrong whats wrong. I'm just trying to forget what happened.

I have 6 different accounts with different email accounts but with the same pay-pal account.  I keep them all category specific. Like Clothing for one account, collectibles, etc... and one as a free for all account.  The free for all account keeps getting screwed with limitations all the time because i category switch it all the time.  Once you start selling large volumes under a different category e-bay puts you under their micro-scope.  I am not sure if all this has all been said yet because i was too lazy to read all the posts..

Pay-pal! Keep a bank account that is for Pay-Pal only. do frequent deposits into it from Pay-Pal! Once those funds reach your Pay-Pal bank account get them into your regular bank account fast!  This way if you run into problems with Pay-Pal or E-Bay (same company in my opinion) your money wont get completely locked up.  If you run into problems Pay-Pal will freeze your bank account and you will have to submit quite a bit of paper work to un-freeze it.

Movie Man...
You can take the lights to certain recycle yards and they pay by the pound of lights. It is decent money because the state of California pays them a fee of some sort..... Its been about 6 months since i did it but you should get good money for all those lights.  I think it was $2.50 a pound.

eBay / Quick price app to use at auctions and for listing

This is an app I use for finding the lowest price on the internet fast.  This works great when you have to make split second decisions. It also uses your phone to list things on amazon real fast.  As we unload out of the unit into the trucks, we use this app on our phones to list on amazon. We often see sells before we unload the units back at our place.  Amazon, for those of you who don't use it, sells items faster for us because most people that apply for credit cards at amazon get them.  Here is the droid link
