thank you all for the suggestions.  my wife and I agree that we will stick to learning from these forums and experience, instead of spending money to buy any books.

New to Storage Auctions? / Who are the real experts at this business?
« on: July 06, 2011, 09:22:12 AM »
Searching information on Google, and came across this guy Glendon Cameron.  I'm sure if you google him, you'll find his blog.

anyway, I'm sure there are several people out there referring to themselves as experts in the biz.  However, as I'm a little skeptical, is paying for their information really necessary?

Thanks,
Jeremy

General Storage Auction Talk / Scrap metal - is it worth it?
« on: June 30, 2011, 07:55:37 AM »
we had some vehicle front seats (probably from a Dodge Caravan) and a bedframe in one of the units we just sorted thru.  we brought the stuff home last night for a bulk pickup from the city.  As I was leaving for work this morning, there was a guy who was taking the seats.  The bedframe had already been taken.  He said he can make money on the seats.

Is scrap metal worth the time and effort?  Can you get decent money for just a couple of items?

I know I will have to call my local recycling center and ask them about actual dollars, but just wanted to hear people's opinions.

Craigslist / Ever get contacted by previous owner?
« on: June 29, 2011, 09:31:06 AM »
I've been thinking about putting some of the stuff we recently got from 2 lkrs on CL, and had this thought:

what do you do/say if the person contacting you is the old owner of the unit?

at this point, we've already sorted most of the two units we got - ie. items for sale, items donated and trash.

thanks to both of you.  once we have finished going thru the 2 units, i'll create a new post with what we've found.  right now, it's mostly been clothes in one unit and beach house items in the second.

Fayettenam Man - we talked about going over to OBX and see if they had any auctions.  figured it's gonna be mostly beach stuff of course.

we got our first and second units today.  between my wife and I, it was probably the 2nd week since we started.  it does take time and patience.
