New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Coin Question
« on: May 05, 2012, 09:13:56 PM »

All US nickels except for the famous "war nickels" (mid-1942 to 1945) are made of the same metal, an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel.

Popular misconceptions to the contrary, no nickels except for "war nickels" ever contained any silver.

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Re: Interview With Walt Cade
« on: May 05, 2012, 09:04:46 PM »
Walt really is a nice guy as TC said. I've met him a couple times at a storage facility in my town. The on facility that hires him here. all others do their own auctions.
He told us a couple weeks ago that he does not post the "when and where" for the SW Tex because his auction buyers dont like the crowds. (but more like the film crew doesnt need to to be bombarded)
Well low and behold I checked his website today and He posted for filming Monday in Longview.  I am thinking about going just for S**ts and Giggles.  :D

dont mind if i ask :P

but did you make you money back? i am starting to think to not mess with cheap lockers, but 80$ lockers sounds fun!

1K - 3K is a risk, if no big items like furniture and  eletronics...

and how many auction you attend a day?

you might start seeing me there :)

From what I can decipher  from reading all your posts, you are totally new as in never been to an auction or is that some detail you have left out?
seems that you joined here so to test the waters.

well that isnt how it works at all.
you need to get out to the auctions and WATCH some before you jump in all gungho on bidding. and you need to find a way to turn those items over... ie: Fleamarket, Ebay, Craigs list, etc or your own resale store. These things are discussed on many many threads here. This biz is not for most ppl. And the Newbies? The regs like Hestor, Darrel, even Brandi and Jarrod (and alot of this forums regulars also) will chew you up and spit you out (and those type are in EVERY AREA/State/City of this business).
To quote PureVendue from another thread here " put on your training wheels".
get out and watch a few auctions before moving forward.

, and are there other forums? this forum seems new...

I am sure there are other forums similar to this 1. Tho you might spend all day googling to find them.
New ? not sure what you classify as NEW but 2 years doesnt seem so new to me.

something ding in my head

it was a setup from the manager perhaps, they opened the unit, saw a super nasty whore den, and put some tool boxes, to intice bidders to clean that jizz den up,

I feel sorry for yea, how did you make off it? :P
I did fair on that unit after all the trash i found a few salvageable items. profit is still debatable since 1 of 2 window units the DH needs to test and recharge. DH also kept the new engine hoist ($50 or so at Harbor Freight)

but to answer the ? of staged.... a big NO. I know the owner. He doesnt do that. He is an honest guy kinda on the naive side actually. it was all dusty and no hand prints at all. Same  with all his units. He does his own auctions, upkeep, etc. too much of a cheapskate to hire anyone to help with his 4 diff sets of units around town.

#12 if PORN offends you in the least way.... RUN from this business!!

just now switched channels and find SW gang in Vegas discussing their ventures etc..
Brandi says 8 of 10 units have porn and would have to agree.
5 of 6 I have bought had porn. and I dont mean the mild stuff. these were bad.
Not viewable from the open door but once inside WOW.
1 had a TV/VCR combo set up with car battery/adaptor to view his tapes inside unit.
118 porn magazines and various tapes/CDs. plus 4 plastic "male parts" obviously used inside the unit also. All his power tools, ladders, tires/wheels, a tent, viewable from door sold me on this. upon inspection ALL were broken, parts missing, etc.
All the Mikita power tool blue plastic boxes (visible from door) were... you guessed it ... EMPTY.
This unit was his Dumpster, his "front" for keeping his bad side from his family.

Daughter and I had a garage sale earlier this month. leftovers from my huge unit in Nov. Tons of clothes from that 1. ran to another unit and grabbed that, added to garage sale that day.
Found a new Flea site advertising Free set up until further notice... Now do we set up there or Hit the 2 diff auctions.
1st auction in a very small town 29 units 8 AM owner wants $500 clean up fee and be out by 7PM. the 500 and 7pm seems unreasonable to me in such a small town but it is what it is.
2nd auction is 10 am in my town AND not far from the new Flea. 4 units. private owner does the auction himself. no added fees no rush rush to get it clean.
Decisions decisions.  :-\

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Mattresses
« on: April 25, 2012, 09:40:30 PM »
Very nice Money.
I had 2 mattresses laying in back yard from back  Nov units. Could never get the hubby or son to drag them off. After reading this thread I decided to work on those.Well son finally pulled them under fence to pasture and set fire. Not sure just how the fire will affect them so far as crafting. But at least thats a start.
Now to get the 2 boxsprings/foundations from the garage. 1 has the square springs and not sure of the other. Every auction I've been to so far has bedding and I yell out BON FIRE TIME  ::) hoping it scares the newbies off LOL
