Stories about Storage Auctions / One unit auction today
« on: April 09, 2011, 12:38:36 PM »
Ok so this isn't much of a story but in the spirit of helping the forum stay active thought I would post.

Im fairly new at storage auctions, have been to a few and have only bought one unit...paid $300 and have turned it into $450 after keeping some of the good stuff for myself and a TON of yard sale items to sell.

This was a unlisted auction that I came upon simply buy calling the facility to ask if they conduct auctions.  Owner/Operator seems to be a great guy and actually admitted to feeling bad when he has to cancel auctions due to tenants paying up.  Anyways told me the contents over the phone, bedroom set, washer, dryer, TV, dining set and some boxes.  Saturday afternoon sale that is unlisted may be a great opportunity to get a cheap unit with some higher value items.

Show up 15 minutes early, only 4 others at this facility.  3 more show up just as the the door is being rolled up.  Door goes up....and what do we have? an end table, two garbage bags, two small boxes with bathroom items, and a table w/4 chairs.  Facility operator just realizes that the tenant removed items.  Oh well locker sells for $60.  Great weather and it was good to find another storage facility that conducts auctions in my area.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Won first unit
« on: March 23, 2011, 08:00:16 PM »
So after attending a couple auctions I decided to jump in with both feet and landed my first unit.

Unit was and 8'X8' and 80% full.  Visible from the door:  Two dozen well stacked cardboard boxes, dresser, 32" TV, Kids Toy Box, Custom built computer, Chrome BMX freestyle bike.

Approximately 24-30 people with 4 active bidders.  Started out at $50 and inched its way to $160.  Now down between myself and one other.  $180...$190...$200...$220....$240 then I just jumped to $300.  That ended it and I won it for $300.

Guy built computers and had multiple misc. parts and other computer odds and ends.

Items found:  Desktop PC, HP Dv2000 laptop (minus hard drive) 19" LCD Monitor, LG Env Touch cell phone, Sony Car Stereo, Black & Decker 12v cordless drill and charger in case, Schmucker Instant Power portable jump box, Weber portable propane grill, 3 IDE Hard drives (320gb total), Haro Sport BMX Freestyle bike,

Boxes were %90 clothes.

Total cost: Unit- $300, Fuel - $25, Dump Fee - $40 for a total of $365.

Items sold on Craigslist: Desktop computer - $100, IDE Hard drives - $20, Weber grill - $20, BMX Bike - $50 for a total of $190
Items sold on Ebay: HP Dv2000 laptop - $107, LG Env Touch - $70 for a total of $177
Grand Total: $367

Still have items listed and everything else sold is for profit

Overall experience was great and can't wait to get another unit
