General Storage Auction Talk / Getting bad smells out of clothes.
« on: May 07, 2012, 12:34:51 AM »
Anyone have any experience getting cigarette and other odors out of clothing?  I've washed them a couple times which has helped, but someone with a good sense of smell will likely still notice.  I'm hoping just having them in a non-smoking environment for a while will help as well.  I also have a leather jacket that smells bad.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Living in a storage unit.
« on: May 07, 2012, 12:31:20 AM »
I just bought a unit that was being used as a house.  That's right, 2 people, a husband and wife, were sleeping and fornicating in a 5 x 10 that was also housing all of their belongings.  I heard the story before the bidding so it wasn't a surprise.  I guess the facility got suspicious and caught them going at it one night and so they got the boot.  I can't fathom how two people could live in that tiny space, there was just enough space for a foam mattress and the rest was filled with their belongings and it smelled horrible as well.  I went for it though since it was somewhat cheap and I will make some money but more importantly have an interesting story to tell.

I just saw 4-500 people at a Friday night auction up here in Canada.  I was short on time so I had to leave after the first locker.  Pretty crazy.

What's it Worth?? / Sitram Cookware
« on: April 01, 2012, 09:08:24 PM »

I got some really good quality cookware, better than the crap I use at least.  It's called Sitram Bistro Pro.  I'm not sure if this is professional/ commercial cookware or not.  I can't find much info on the Bistro Pro series, I think they probably stopped selling it long ago.  I found other Sitram series' and it's pretty expensive and they do have a professional series.  This was from my 2nd unit and it's the first set of cookware I've found.  I really have no idea what to sell this for or what features people look for in cookware.  It is well used, but it's real heavy and feels high quality to me.  Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.  I have more pics too if needed.

What's it Worth?? / Antique Table
« on: March 29, 2012, 11:10:29 PM »
Another newbie question.  Got this antique table in a unit.  I'm debating what to price it at.  I took these photos to an antique dealer and he thinks it's about 75 years old and made of elm.  I couldn't get a value out of him, I think because he was interested in buying it and didn't want to say too high of a number, but he did say that the $40 offer I have received on it is too low.  It does have some condition issues.  The table has some splitting where two of the boards come together and there are nicks and scratches on the table top.  The base doesn't look too bad.  Any ideas what my asking price should be?  $60?  $100?  $200?

What's it Worth?? / Geisha Statue
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:19:33 PM »
Noob here, I bought 2 units about a month ago.  In unit #2 I found this Geisha Statue.  I can not find any markings on it or anything to tell me who it's made by.  My instincts tell me it is old as it was found in a box with 2 Royal Doulton figures from the 1930's (sold for $75 each) and it has that "they don't make 'em like this anymore" look and feel to it.  Other than that, I am an amateur with these kinds of things (but slowly learning).

Unfortunately, 2 fingers are broken so I'm not expecting a huge return but would be interested to know more about this.  Thanks.
