Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hi Everyone. Need advice
« on: November 30, 2010, 06:02:08 PM »
Hi,
I would try and arrive at least 15 mins early.  You might have to sign in.  And you might want to bring a flashlight, your own lock and some gloves.  When I first starting going, I just observed.  I think I went to about 10 auctions before I started bidding.  But, you might find something that you like at the first one.  You never know!  Have fun!  And keep us posted, if you buy anything.  Healthe  :)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Bidders are not your buddies!
« on: November 21, 2010, 06:09:40 AM »
Hi,
I just recently bought a unit for $160 which didn't have much in it, but the stuff looked like quality.  Well, I was told by a friend that some of the bidders are bidding on the units that I want just to bid me up on the price!  I think that from now on, I'll be quiet about my profits!  I've been fortunate in picking units that have made me money.  So, word of warning!  Bidders are not your friends, they are your competition!  It's okay to chit/chat, but be careful about telling them about all the GOOD stuff you're finding.  That's what I get for being friendly!  Healthe  ;D

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hi from Michigan

Hi Drew & Jimbo,
Thanks for the welcome!  This looks like a great forum!  It's hard to talk about some of this stuff with your fellow bidders!   ;)

The best items that I've found so far have been a diamond ring, gold necklaces, acoustic guitar, wake board & shoes and antique radio.  There hasn't been anything that I've wanted to keep yet.

Have you found anything that you've really liked and kept it?  Healthe

Other Forms of Selling / Local Auction House
« on: November 14, 2010, 07:22:23 AM »
Hi,
I sell some of my items at a local auction place.  They have an on-line auction like Ebay.  Once it's sold, I take it to them to give to the customers.  They take 25% from the income of sales.  I normally take my stuff that I would sell at my garage sale to them or my larger items.  The more expensive items, I sell on Ebay.   Healthe  :)

Craigslist / Lots of "no shows"
« on: November 14, 2010, 07:18:12 AM »
Hi,
I live out in the country, so I get lots of "no shows".  I usually end up selling my items really cheap or give them away before anyone comes out to see me.  Unless it's something that they really want!  Furniture does pretty good.  Healthe  :(

Flea Markets / Free Flea Market
« on: November 14, 2010, 07:15:58 AM »
Hi,
This summer in our area there was a free flea market in town.  A couple of local stores wanted us to sell by them to bring in some business.  I took all my odd/ends and clothes and made a few dollars.  It's just getting started and he wanted to do it again next year.  I think next year will be better.  Healthe  :)

The Treasure Chest / Diamond Ring
« on: November 12, 2010, 01:59:19 PM »
Hi,
The best item that I found so far was a diamond wedding ring.  I sold it to my aunt for $100.  It was valued at $200.  So, I haven't hit the jackpot yet, but I'm not going to give up trying!  Healthe  :)

Hi Drew,
I watched the show on Tuesday night.  It was exciting!  Wish I could find what they are finding at their auctions.   :D

I went to an auction yesterday and they were talking about it!  The crowd was double what it normally was and the units went for twice as much too!  It's really competitive in our area.  And I really do think that the show and the Internet have made a difference in the number of bidders now.

Just my 2 cents!  Healthe

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Hi from Michigan
« on: November 12, 2010, 01:48:34 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I've been doing the storage auctions part-time for about a year and a half now.  So far I've bought 8 units.  Each were very different.  One was filled with all new clothing and household items.  Today, I'm selling all the Christmas stuff from that unit.

Thanks for putting together this site!  Hopefully, we can all learn from each other.

Chat again soon!  Healthe
