Craigslist / Having trouble selling items
« on: August 25, 2011, 05:29:28 PM »
Im having a lot of trouble selling on CL. My pops keeps telling me to be patient and in due time tjings will sell in a month or so. I just keep telling him if I dont sell the items fast I cant get another locker and all im doing is losing money. What should I do to get items moving faster. I just lowered, the price on most everything by about 40%-50%. Anything else I can do. I already made my money back on the unit also? Should I lower it more and lose more profit just so I can get money to buy another lkr or what should I do. Any help would be great thanks.

Flea Markets / flea market noob
« on: August 24, 2011, 10:35:15 AM »
i have been trying my hand at craigslist and cant seem to sell much as in my areas not many people have money. but after my first unit i dont have many items that are low priced most the things i have are 50-200 dollars easily and theres about 15 items or so of that and only a handful of items that are on the cheap end.

i guess my question is... is it reasonable to sell my high priced items at flea markets or how should i go about doing that? i was thinking just going to them with a certian price on them but also have a sign that says make offer to try and get rid of these items so i can go to more auctions faster.

any advice on this would be helpful or if someone could let me know a good place to sell these high value items fast would be great also.

New to Storage Auctions? / first unit bought
« on: August 21, 2011, 01:22:04 PM »
well i just got my first unit friday. it was a silent auction which i figured i would bid to low on and not get a unit. well i bid 160 and i won the unit. going through it it had a craftsman toolbox full of tools a fluke multimeter 2 electric kid cars bedroom set nice shape, 2 credit card swipers one manual one electronic parts for a ditch digger brand new car parts still in box with tags a safety harness with the lanyard. all together theres about 1400 dollars worth of items so we will see how fast they sell and what the total profit is. but i am no longer a locker virgin hehe

New to Storage Auctions? / another noob question... go figure.
« on: August 09, 2011, 03:12:05 PM »
well as yall know by my previous posts i am a complete noob. but unlike most the other noobs out there starting out in this business i actually respect the veteran buyers and dont want to disrespect them and drive the prices up so not much profit to be made by me or other buyers.
i guess what my question is is how does a noob bid successfully and not drive the prices up for a locker that looks good and could make a profit on without bidding to high?
i actually got started doing these by watching auction hunters and i have actually studied there behind the scenes on how to bid and what to do and all that but wanted yalls take on this so i could actually gain the respect from the vets and be able to make a profit/living from these and some of yall do.
any advice would be helpful thanks.

General Storage Auction Talk / partnerships??? good or bad??
« on: August 08, 2011, 03:00:24 PM »
i was talking to my dad a bit ago and he said he was thinking about getting into these as a way to make a little money? now since he has had 6 back surgeries and i have a small amount of money to work with imo it would be beneficial for both of us to work together since i can lift and i know the ropes for the most part and i also know what to look for thanks to all my beautiful research and talking to people. i figured with me doing most of the work and bidding and him just supplying a little extra money and posting items to sell online and knowing more people that would want items that we would split the profits down the middle.

would this be a good idea to get into a partnership or would it be a bad idea and cause more trouble?

theres also things we are both looking for and that we could both use thanks to the economy and all and we know what each other wants to keep and all.

any ideas or any kind of advice would be helpful...

General Storage Auction Talk / confused about times
« on: August 02, 2011, 08:17:07 PM »
well i was calling around to facilities to see when and if they have auctions and what times they are. i came across this place not to far from me that is having an auction mid this month i asked them the units and there are three up for bid and then i asked the time. they said the auction was at 1130 pm.
has anyone had an experience or what is this facility doing? any input would be most welcomed as i am confused. i thought auctions were held in the morning and sometimes late afternoon

New to Storage Auctions? / how to build up a clientel
« on: July 31, 2011, 06:50:52 PM »
ive been reading on some posts about how having a proper clientel and such is important. now i know to move items you can post them on CL, amazon, ebay and flea markets. but as for other items i guess more of less speciality items or more valuable items if one does come across them. how would you move them fast to make room for other lkrs?
also just out of curiousity around where i live furniture does not sell well as people dont have much money and arent buying. how would i move furniture fast or other large items that i might get that would be useless to be leaving around?

General Storage Auction Talk / where to find auctions
« on: July 31, 2011, 08:24:11 AM »
i went out and got 7 different news papers this morning from 3 different counties. i searched the whole papers and only found 1 storage auction. can anyone give me advice on where to go to find them. as of right now i am paying for a website that has listings but imo its a waste of money since about 90% of the auctions are over by 'Auctionfaces' stomping grounds and about 5 hours from me. any ideas would be welcome as of right now. the only idea i have is go through the phone books and call every storage facility i see listed.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Storage Auction Blues
« on: July 30, 2011, 08:55:40 AM »
Well i attended my first storage auction this morning or at least part of one. when i got there i saw a hole crap load of trailers with stuff packed about 10 ft high on them and things outside the units. i went up and talked to the lady in the trailer where you get your number and all and asked her about everything. she said that they took everything out of every unit and either stacked them on the trailers or put them in from of the units. i asked aboutt he valuable things and she said that the owners and people that worked there and the people that helped unload the units get to pick what they want and so on. everything else is auctioned off. well i was walking around and  noticing that people bidders were just rummaging through boxes and sitting on the furniture that were to be auctioned off. well after walking around for a bit and seeing all this i got upset as there was nothing of value the furniture was old and junky there was nothing worth anything there cept some construction equipment that was to big for me to haul by myself. and to top this all off i tried calling the storage facility about 10 times this morning on my way there and could never get anyone to answer to find anything out before i got there so i wasted my time and my gas to go there when i could have gone to another place that was a climate controlled facility.
has anyone else had experiences like this or is this just a place to stay away from? any advice or stories would be great.

Just another new guy from michigan. i got out of the military and went to college at wyotech but with the economy down and no jobs i saw an episode of auction hunters (which i know makes yall auction vets cringe) i figured why not give this a try and make a business for myself. I know this is nothing like the tv series as i have done my homework but any advice for a beginner/novice would be much appreciated as my first auction is saturday.
