General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Selling storage treasures

Well crailstauction there are a lot of small towns that I go to since not many peopke go to them and prices are fairly cheap most expensive ive seen is 1050 in the small areas. Yeah everything I have left is in good condition. All electronics work even the old ones. I do have a number of power cords and such that I was going to keep in case I ever find something that they can go to or eventually put them on CL or ebay to sell. All clothing I have is in good or new condition the rest I cut up to use for my shop ( im a diesel tech unemployed with no tools that I need) but hopefully soon most of my inventory will be gone and I can start going to auctions again.

@ drew
Actually im already planning on moving to around phoenix az. for school just need to pay some bills down first. That a big enough city for you? Lol. Yeah I will probably post in the bigger cities and charge them a set price for gas per distance for delivery. Not a bad idear. As for bigger flea markets that means more booth rent and way more gas but with a little price adjusting its possible.

@monkeybusiness
Yeah I think theres only one auction house around here about 30-45minutes away but could try it out and see what happens with a few hard to sell items. Plus theres a lot of drunks there that like to spend money hehe.

Thanks for the advice. If yall think of any more idears let me know please. My mind is open to anything right now.

i got a couple consignment shops within 45-60 minutes from me. but no decent clothes as of yet mostly walmart stuff nothing special. most the stuff i have is trinkets (go figure) some electronics, tools, furniture and stuff like that bedding, christmas and home decor. no little places that buy items close that would be worth the drive. my last option would be to box up all the unwanted small items and post them on CL for cheap. might be the best way to make a few dollars while still keeping my good stuff that might sell. but the best i got around me is an auction house that you can take anything to and will auction off for a small percentage. thats the best i got thats decent.

Nah you didnt come off as an ass. In fact I thought I had the ways to sell items I just didnt figure in all the factors of people not buying items in areas where I thought be selling. I have many contacts and buyers for many different items problem is there not the items I have. Ok I will try and sell other items on ebay. Mostly I havent a problem with driving to sell items its just the issue of gas to get to the bigger cities then making the money when there. But will take your advice and make this happen as it is my only source of income for the time being.

So here it is been two weeks since I bought my last lkr and im itching to buy another soon problem is im out of money and I got tuns of inventory with no buyers. problem 1: I live in the middle of bfe so people have little money to spend. Problem 2: im over an hour from the big cities so really hard to get to flea markets out there. Problem 3: most people dont seem to want to drive over an hour to buy an item on cl when its cheap and one heck of a bargain.

Ok enough with the problems time for positive thinking and solutions. Ive considered driving over an hour to the nearest city for flea markets. Also posting on CL for the flea markets in the city for the bigger items I could bring with and try to sell there. Ive also considered selling a bunch of 1 dollar items on ebay mostly decorative and household items just to sell them and make a quick buck. My last idea was to go to a bigger city and ask around if maybe I could set up a sale in a grocery parking lot or bank lot.

Any ideas or input on this would be great as I dont want to stop doing auctions just cause of my location. Also any clever ways yall can think of to sell items would be great thanks

Flea Markets / Niches...
« on: September 11, 2011, 05:19:36 PM »
Ive been going to flea markers for a couple weeks now and havent had much luck. Been making between 20-40 dollars basically enough to cover rent gas and meals. Granted economy sucks andnot much money flow where I am but it seems people with certain niches and business cards are making all the money. I was wondering if while doing storage auctions if having a certain niche at you booth like tools or guns or knives or something specific if that would help bring people in to buy so maybe I could make a profit. I was thinking the next couple marketsof trying tools and if it works then buying off ebay for the niche to support auctions.

Any advice on this subject.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Best lkr ive seen thus far

I got my contacts from talking to others and telling them what I do plus I got a couple from other bidders. Find vendors at the flea markets that look like they have a specialty they will be your best bet to unload certain items. Some other bidders will be interested in furniture or the bigger items and will pay you decently for them. Just ask around. Sometimes small talk and just mentioning things will get you a buyer for certain items or can lead you to a buyer. Put it this way in just a few days I went from having no contacts to having about 10. Also craigslist buyers. Sometimes they deal in certain things or are looking for hard to find items. Keep there numbers. Like I got a lady for a kids 4-wheeler. Also a guy that deals in tools and such. Just talk. Talk is cheap andvery informative. Also small towns talk to people there. Everyone knows each others business mostly and can guide you to certain people. Hope this helps

Ive posted in detroit metro and said willing to meet half way and still got no takers on certain items maybe just the wrong items for the time? Idk. But I know I got a good list of collectors and buyers and a garage sale commission guy that will unload the items fast for me for a big profit. But I know later thus month genessee county and the whole thumb area is hopping with auctions which means lots of guy stuff and a few household units.

Your time will come acman. Ive bought 3 lkrs so far made a profit on all them. But its hard times sellin at flea markets ive noticed. Lost money today barely sold anything and the money made didnt cover my 5 dollar booth rent. Just make sure you have a good list of clientel before you buy a unit so you can unload fast. Ive learned that the best way for that is talk to vendors atflea matkets most specialize in certian areas. Plus talk to other bidders. I got a guy who buys furniture for a reasonable price then his buddy buys it at retail and sells it. Also went to sell to a guy off craigslist and he does garage every weekend and only asks for 10% commission and gets good, amount of people from the different ways he advertises. But like I said get everthing set up first before you buy makes this a tun easier.

Went to an auction this morning. It was a sealed bid. The unit doors were already opened when I got there. Started looking at then then I get to this golden unit. There was about an inch of dust covering everything. Nothing had been moved or touched in 12 years since the facility owner bought the place. There was some nice looking furniture, a metal box buried of some sort, boxs piled high in one corner a rebel flag folded. I bid 195.50 but high bid was 365. I was so curious as to what was in those boxs. I bet there was some valuable items.

Anyone else see or get lkrs like this? If so please share stories.

I personally would be happy with 100 for the unit. But also the place im going to mostly rents out the equipment. But I did only spend 90 on the unit so I be happy just to break even right now. But will keep yall posted on these items. Have an auction in the morning as they said it was today so there a few of us there but being a small town i'll be the odd one out.

So latest update on my hoarders unit. Turns out this unit has tuns and tuns of potential. I found an antique wooden doll from the 30's or 40's in pretty good shape. Best thing so far is a sleep apnea machine brand new in box still has invoice. Unit costed 655. Plus still has all the plastic wraping. Im going to a place that sells medical equipment and rent stuff out tomorrow and see if I can sell them that. Also getting the doll appraised and if I can find someone about the painting I will for that also.

Thanks bigbizz for the tip on contacts. When selling my toolbox I talked to the,guy and he does sales all the time well he will sell my things for 10% commission which will help me out so I can sell the furniture and such. Also he knows someone who will buy my wine glasses for more then I think there worth. So thank yuns for the tips.
