So, the new girl Elle at the Haff-Ton Pawn Shop is apparently actress Laura Soares. After the "made for TV" pawn shop incident, I didn't think Auction Hunters could get any more fake. I seriously underestimated them.
What I find so funny/odd is that some people on the real auction caravan's we go on still think Storage Wars and the others are real. We try to explain how they do the shows but they just don't seem to understand or don't want to understand. I guess if we just let them live out their fantasy they will be happy bidders??  LOL

It doesn't make a diff for us just yet. But, it may very soon since we are thinking of expanding the drive to possibly another State as well as farther east, west, north and south. Out of State would be an over-night visit with family or friends also. ;-)

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Am I "Gun Shy" or...
« on: March 06, 2013, 09:43:22 PM »
You aren't too gun shy at all. Prices are outrageous right now in California. The lockers aren't the greatest so when a good one shows, it's crazy! Even the smaller ones with nothing special in them are going for too much. It's usually this way for the first 1/4 and then it kinda gets back to normal. (whatever that means nowadays)

I would donate it to family.  :D  Come on now, everyone has a friend or family member that uses it.
I think I would also. When we moved back to California, we found that 3/4 of our family members have Medical MJ Cards. I guess they are all very sick and in pain and really could use the stuff.   :-)

Does this mean there will be 8 players total? Oh well, we'll see how it goes.  :-[

Stories about Storage Auctions / Storage Lockers Break-Ins
« on: March 06, 2013, 07:47:08 PM »
Recently we have been to at least 4 facilities that informed us they had been broken into. These are happening a lot in the Central Sacramento area. One had been broken into just around the corner from ours in the same warehouse area. The manager said the thieves used a U-Haul, came into the facility around 3:00 PM broke into the locker, and were out by around 3:25 PM. The owner arrived back around 3:40 PM to find the damage. The Mgr. also told us three other units around the back of the facility had been cut and items stolen. We went to an auction in Sacramento that the auctioneer told us 9 had been cut into from the back side. Is this happening a lot more in other areas? We are double locking our unit with thick locks now. Hate a thief!

Found this on the TMZ website, didn't know if it has been posted. Couldn't find anything in the search. http://www.tmz.com/

Went to 3 auctions yesterday (1/24/2013) and while I didn't buy anything it was a better experience than the auctions of the day before.

It seemed to be smaller yesterday for us also. Not quite sure what the crowd was all about, people looked older and regular but only a couple of bidders. We needed a good filler locker and got one that will do us well for the week. Got furniture up the ying yang so we are "trying" to avoid that for a few weeks. Good Luck today if you go out.

I hope the 90+ degree weather slows them down also, but when we lived in Texas and it got into the 105+ they still came out, just with less clothing on :-) Since we have been back to California, I am not sure how it will be in the Sacto area. We got out to an auction yesterday that wasn't real terrific but good enough. We did get one locker for a decent price and we'll get a nice return on it. Couldn't get to the second facility due to time restraints but the crowds would have been enormous anyway as it always is there.

Not sure if SWNY is the problem as much as some getting their tax returns already. We have seen the same issues and I just laugh and shake my head. Let them waste their money and hopefully not return again. It makes it tough to get a locker but we just keep going until it happens and they go away.

That some BS!   A check is the same as cash.....at least that's my Ex's philosophy.   ???
I know the feeling. They wouldn't even let me pay with one of the credit cards I found in one of the lockers I purchased!! They sure are getting picky!!  ;D

Went to an auction in Chico yesterday and something was very wrong. Units that should have seriously gone for not more than 800.00 max. were going for 1500.00+ Granted I know that when they have rural auctions (this was with an auctioneer that also has an auction house in this town), I will see more locals since they don't seem to travel around but, the prices were really stupid! I stood and laughed at how high they were going. Not sure what was going on exactly..one guy told me the scuttle-butt was, these people work with the auctioneer and they get a kick-back of some type, bid high, win and then either split with him or he reduces the prices and they sell at his auction house for him??  I didn't pass that along because I know all kinds of rumors go around but it did seem very strange. Planning to go to the auctioneer's auction house just to see if anything shows up there. I hate it when I feel I have wasted my time going to one of these that may be rigged this bad.   :-X

It never stopped us from going. Fog, rain, icy roads etc., we just take it slower on the hwys. and bundle up in layers. We get to the auctions and everyone looks the same, like drowned rats on rainy days!!!

I went to a U-Haul auction today in central Texas. 40 units between 3 locations and about 30 bidders. Every unit went for a least two times retail. It really made me sick to my stomach.
I thought most of that was over with by now. It seems to have calmed down around here IMHO, even though it can get crazy from time to time. We know some bidders come out and are Dave Hester wannabees and bid crazy but in general I think it's getting a bit better. 2013 will tell the tale since the cat is out of the bag fro Storage Wars and the nubes   ;D
