I went to an auction a few days ago across the bay, which is a 75 mile ride one way and $17 in a toll.  The wife didn’t want to go, but I did and need the fix.  Instead my oldest daughter went with me, to “keep me under control”.  Well it didn’t work.  The last unit of the day was an old grandmothers unit 10x10 packed full and not been touched at all in years.  I tried to go high right off the bat to get it and get out.  Well it went  like this,  started off at 100, then 200, I went 400. Then 410 and I jumped to 500, the 510.  Then jumped it to 600, when is this guy going to stop, Daughter no help. The only thing that I hear out of her is “mom’s going to kill you”.  The next bid is 610, I’m thinking to myself dam jerk, ok 700.   And he went to 740.  He saved my marriage, and my  wife set the new rules into place, I will not ever go alone or with my daughter ever again.   I was fun for the time it lasted.  Trying to get her to go tomorrow.  :)

Flea Markets / First flea market of the season
« on: April 14, 2013, 08:14:53 AM »
The first Flea market sale for me of the summer.  My goal was to get up early in the morning and grab some boxes of stuff  and load them in the truck and head out to the flea market.  I made it up at 5:30 am, go the truck loaded and made it to the market.  Holy crap, the place was loaded with sellers.  Luckily I found a spot that was not too bad and started to set up.  Tables were already there and the cost was 15 bucks. Then I found out that I grabbed the boxes from some of the trashy units’ leftovers and a lot of clothing.  I had no choice but to make the best of it.  Shoes, jackets, junk and a lot of other clothing.  At the end of the day, I make 100 bucks, got rid of the shoes and junk, donated a few boxes for karma. And kept some clothing for later.   It was like fighting for dollars, a lot of people, but no one wanted to pay much.  A buck is a buck.

Craigslist / I think I lost a sale...
« on: April 08, 2013, 08:30:50 PM »
I been trying to off load this refrigerator for a couple of weeks now.  It's a appartment size 2 foot deep, 2 foot wide and maybe 5 feet tall.  Works great, and looks good except for a ding on the door.  I had it on CL for $75 and received a few calls on it, but no buyers.  I even went down to $50.  I do have a problem with giving stuff away, but still no buyers.  I noticed in the area that I'm in if you lower the price it must be junk.  Well, I relisted it and raised the price to $135.00 and later that day a guy calls asking about it.  Yep, I'm asking 135, works good.  Then he had the nerve to ask if this is the same one I was selling for 75 last week.  Yep it is, just figured I would relist it and bump up the price so I can go lower.  Then he asked about the $75 price, yep I'll take that also.  Then he again, had the nerve to ask it I would go lower or if my $75 price was firm.  Yes sir my bottem price is $75, it's a nice refrigator, I alreadly came down from $135 and I can't go any lower.   He never called back....

General Storage Auction Talk / I got suckered.
« on: March 31, 2013, 12:05:59 PM »
$240.00 down the drain.  Bought a 10 x 25 unit loaded,  nothing worth crap.  Trash and more trash.  Then to top it off i sold a washer and dryer to an individual who acted like he needs it and it would be good Christian thing to give him a good price.  Then he flips it on craigslist.

Are storage facilities alowed to stage units?  Put their stuff in it and sell it?

A few months back we ran across one unit which had a bunch of records in boxes. The unit went for $130.  We took it to 100 and the wife was stressing out on it.  If you stacked them up it would be about 6 feet tall amount.  Does anyone know a good place to sell them?..

eBay / I did good on Ebay..
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:05:19 PM »
Yea, I did good selling a large box of Dungeons’ and Dragons stuff.  Made really good on it, sold fast. On the last order to send out, some guy in California had no problem paying a high shipping on a few books.  Well to play it forward and keep good karma on my side I loaded a large flat rate shipping box full of stuff.   I almost paid for the entire unit with one box….

Stores / Taken the dive into uncharted waters....
« on: March 20, 2013, 02:22:29 PM »
We have taken the dive into the waters of selling in a vender's store.  $100.00 a month and  no sales comm.
10 x 10 stall with all peg boards installed. It's a new place that they are trying to get started up and it's in not to bad of a location.  No junk/junk  just good/junk.  Easier then selling at a yard sale, getting to old of moving stuff.

The Treasure Chest / Box of rocks
« on: March 11, 2013, 03:27:12 AM »
I found a lot of stuff, but his is the first time I can say I found a box of rocks.  They are not just rock rocks. But the fancy gem stone rocks.  Even has its own chart to tell what kind they are.  I just thought that I was funny when my older daughter and her husband when last summer went to Cherokee NC and she came back with the same rocks.  Hers cost a $100, mine priceless….. :)

Craigslist / Texting late at night.
« on: March 11, 2013, 03:15:37 AM »
I placed a small dirt bike on CL last week, and it seems that the only thing I get is texting.  I can handle the texting, but when it is after midnight does these people sleep?  Well, I got a text at 12:10 in the morning.  Just so happened that I'm working all night, gave me someone to talk to.  It was some young kid bored, being a pain.  I got the pleasure to text him all night long.  He was not a bad kid just being stupid.

General Storage Auction Talk / The cost to bid
« on: March 01, 2013, 03:37:29 AM »
It might just be me in a bad mood and/or after driving 50 miles to go to two auctions.  I don't mind the driving, because that is just because where we live. But, but when you get there there is over 100 people that showed up.  Well after the bidding started a trash unit went for $240.  I had just enought time to make it to the other place and sign.  They wanted my name and phone number, well that's normal.  Then they a copy of my drivers  license, i didn't like that to much, but ok.  Next, they wanted $50 deposit just to bid.  Somewhere in my little mind, I said the heck with it and just went home.  If i have to give a $50 deposit just to bid, forget it.
