Other Forms of Selling / Re: Consignment & Auction Houses?
« on: August 25, 2014, 08:52:52 PM »
I had one of those 10x10 spaces in a store and tried it for 6 months.  I lost money, and the only one who made money was the owner.   Not enough traffic and buyers.  For me it will be CL, eBay, yard sales and flea markets.  Maybe I will also try the auctions later instead of donating the spoils.  But, that means that I would have to keep that junk until it's worth it..

Yep, well at a flea market a few weeks ago.  Him and another local dealer was arguing over a few DVD s at another persons table.   He was saying that he bought the DVD s at the other table which was a lie. I over heard the whole thing, but the seller was busy with selling to others.  Upon my exiting I let the seller know loudly and clearly that "that dud is stealing your stuff".  I seem him pay for the DVDs.  He still sells there but I won't buy his stuff.

General Storage Auction Talk / When to say it must go?
« on: August 20, 2014, 12:18:51 PM »
When do you give up on trying to get a good price for stuff.  I have stuff that I know is worth good money, but people are not wanting to buy.  I try to separate the stuff in selling types, like eBay, CL, yard sale and donations.  When do you just say its time to go... I hate to just give stuff away, but I don't want to keep it either....

When you feel alone with your score and everyone else you know gave up on helping you sell your stuff from five units ago.

Garage Sales / Re: Early Bird at Garage Sales...are you one ?
« on: August 20, 2014, 11:58:20 AM »
The sad thing is that if you don't get there early all the resellers will get the good stuff.  It also seems as if the sellers will be wanting to sell the stuff cheaper to get there stuff gone...

General Storage Auction Talk / Cool Cam
« on: March 01, 2014, 04:06:33 PM »
The other day I found a Polaroid cool cam 600 at a thrift shop for 3 bucks.  It looked cool, but I knew that I was not going to do anything with it.   So I placed it on eBay.  Bam bam bam.... Sold it for 42 bucks.
So far this week it was good for selling hub caps (74 + shipping) from a Nissan and old boat teak scraps. (20 + shipping ).   Small but profitable. :)

Almost all the auctions around here prefer to take the card, no cash needed.  Some don't like taking the cash...

Yes he has.  The good thing of it is, he after he co-authored this book he didn't write his first book until 15 years later.
Prior to that in 1943 he became aviation editor of Popular Science magazine.  As with everything we get, it isn't worth nothing until someone gives you cash...

General Storage Auction Talk / My find of the day.
« on: January 20, 2014, 07:19:57 PM »
I went to an estate auction Saturday just for something to do.  Normally, the auctioneer would run all the boxes of crappy stuff first, and then the good stuff.  Which means that I had to wait for hours. The only thing that I wanted was some old books.  I did end up paying $33.00 for the books, but there were 5 boxes of them.  There was a few copyrighted in the late 1800’s and a lot before 1915.  There was one book that got my attention.  “Junior Birdmen Standard Aviation Dictionary” 1935 co-authored by C.B. Colby.  I Googled it and found plenty of information about it, but no one has any for sale.  Looks like a good thing for Ebay.
