I do give quotes upon request. I always ship USPS with insurance and the item has to be under 4 lbs. I never put international shipping on the listing, because I want to be clear that I am not responsible for an item being held in customs, or for extended shipping times. I've shipped 2 items outside the country. 1 was a Lego phone made by Tyco in the 80s. The other was recently, an advertisement for Maylasia-Singapore Airlines (opposite side was Rolex). Shipped to Singapore for $3.65.

eBay / Re: What do you think is the best time for an eBay auction to end?
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:49:08 PM »
I try to shoot for Sat.-Sat., Sun.-Sun. or Mon.-Sat., Tues.-Sun. So it always ends on a weekend. Late afternoon to evening end time.

PayPal / Re: PayPal....How do you get your funds ?
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:26:17 PM »
In the rare event I need to pull cash from my paypal, I use the debit card. Costs me $1. I can live with that for instant money instead of the 3-5 day wait.

Online Storage Auctions / Re: How do you feel about buyer's premiums?
« on: January 12, 2014, 11:57:34 AM »
I wish they didn't exist, but the auctioneers around here rarely use them. I can only think of 1 storage auctioneer that uses them. He only uses them when he doesn't negotiate a favorable deal with the facility. Typically those auctions bring smaller crowds and that facility ends up renegotiating with that auctioneer to give him a bigger commission.. or they find another outlet to sell their lockers.

It should help you forge a relationship with the Dotsons. If they understand the internet, they may want to back a domain like OnlineStorageAuctions.com!

I am always moving pieces here and there. But I have not done a major overhaul of the shop. I've been dying to get to my glassware, but I just don't have anywhere else to put it.

Try furniture refinishers or shabby chic shops. They're always looking for materials.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Specialties
« on: January 10, 2014, 10:01:45 AM »
I specialize in mid century collectibles, furniture, etc. Vintage stuff from the 40's to the 70's. I do have antiques as well and do well with them depending on what it is. Primatives seem to do very well. People are amazed when they come in and I can tell a whole story about a particular item. They get an education with their visit. Of course I have to sell the everyday stuff too, but I'm always excited to pull out strange or unique gems from a locker.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Auction Scene #1....January, 2014

Today I went to 5 facilities and saw 30+ units. I kept the store closed today because apparently nobody in NC leaves the house when the temps get below 40 degrees. I bought 1. It was 2 dressers, the obligatory mattress and a clothes basket filled with stuff. I paid a whopping $30.. Easy profit, no mystery. Boo.. Other lockers weren't going for crazy numbers like a year or 2 ago, but still more than I would like to pay.

What's it Worth?? / Re: Organ music instrument

All organs are a tough sell. You have to basically give it away. Today a pastor of a church came in and made mention of it, how it would look great on his stage. I told him that if he had the means to remove it from the store, I would give it to him for $150.. for the church, of course.

I don't use their listings because it's not very accurate. But I went back in there to check it out today.. what stinks is that if you choose to show an upcoming auction that has been cancelled already, you still get 1 "view" taken from you. It's not a good policy. For my money, I'd rather pay the $20/month for SUAL.com, get more accurate info, and more listings (for my area).

eBay / Re: Do eBay buyers ever ask you to sell outside of eBay?
« on: January 07, 2014, 12:08:14 PM »
Or.. you could create a buy it now auction for his asking price and send him a link directly. Give him a deadline to complete the payment. Once he pays, cancel the other auction. If he doesn't pay, cancel the buy it now.

I have a Hammond organ that I've been trying to sell for a few weeks. I have it priced at $300. I may just donate it and take a tax write off. Problem is, I don't have a Leslie speaker with it. This model was made with Yamaha 2 removable Yamaha speakers.
