I just did a zip code search on storagebattles and came across this gem ...

You are going to need to have an ebay like setting that doesn't allow such worthless pictures to be uploaded.  This looks like a scam.

Pay 10 and throw out my junk.  I'm sure you don't want to get that reputation in a new market.

Just saw the legal notice ... online auctions are coming to LI ... as I'm sitting here with over a foot of snow outside my door I'm not going to mind it.

Note to Travis .. Tex goes up every 3 months for about 2 years and they always pay at the last minute.  The facility is also notorious for cancelling auctions when they cut the lock and like items inside.  They feel that they can get more from working something about with the customer rather than dealing with us auction folk.  They are also big on working on deals where the customer can pay a little take what they want and leave the rest for us.

The other name I don't recognize so hopefully that goes off ... interested to see how it works.

I think all of the facilities in long island got together and decided all the best rooms about 2 years ago ...

Public Storage - I've seen them go in order and I've had the manager say we are going straight to the best room so everyone has enough money to bid (facility run auction)

Extra Space - goes in order - (auctioneer)

Mom and Pops - Usually goes to the best one first, although they usually plant items, stage/create rooms ..etc. so their best is actually usually the first (facility run)

this show, out of all of the auction based shows is by far the most ridiculous.  The premise, as an actual job of flying all around the country/world to buy 1 or 2 items is clearly not a sustainable business practice.

"Mark won the day by making a cool profit of $1,200 ..." yeah but he flew to scotland to buy a suitcase, stayed in a hotel for a couple of days, ate, transportation/rental car, custom fees if any ..etc.  It would really say "Mark made poor life decisions and lost several hundred dollars in his latest endeavor.  Mark has since declared bankruptcy"

Obviously I know its a show but I would rather watch storage hunters where they "find" cars or guns in every unit as that is at least a possibility and I have seen it happen many many times than a bs show like this.

The funny part is that they spend more on 1 mystery box than I do on a 10x30 and people actually think its real. 

These shows will be gone soon enough.

I've been at about 15 tapings for storage wars ny ... unfortunately ... I usually just leave when I see the cameras and hooplah.  Sometimes though when I do my "research" I stick around but never sign the waiver to allow myself on tv.

I did stay for the very first one and happened to buy a locker next to one Joe P bought.  Basically he went to put a lock on it after he won - fairly - the producers told him not to and they put their lock on.

After the auction they told Joe to go to lunch and I went to my locker and they went to his - about 10 down.  They waited around and after 10 minutes asked me how long I would be.  I told them when I was finished and after another 10 minutes (now I may have been dragging my feet because they were acting quite shady about the whole thing) they asked again and I gave them the same answer.  I heard one of them say they were going to go get the manager to get me out of there and I told them as a regular that was not going to happen.  They didn't think I heard them so they got all defensive.  They were all fairly young and didn't really look like they have been doing this a long time.

Eventually they gave up ( I was now sitting in a chair in the unit playing on my phone) and started to unload the room.  They took everything out, taped up all of the brand names and get referring back to the pictures to make sure that it was put back in the right order ... but then came the box down from the other side of the hall... you know that one box that they always seem to find in the back corner.  They through that in there put everything back and just like magic joe p hits a homerun like only Joe P can. 

The show is ridiculous and while Joe is nice in person and off camera he has been and always will be arrogant and full of himself.

At this point I'm glad the interest is dying down and the better crowds and more reasonable prices are back on the horizon.

I used to do propertyroom.com but as of a year ago the prices are just about retail so its pointless.  You can of course find some good deals once in a while but artwork, coins, jewelry, tools ..etc. are bid up fairly quick.

This is "valued" at 3250 and has one bid for 600.  On other non auction websites the sale price has been slashed to around 700-750.  In a non retail setting or non art gallery setting I would only be able to sell it for 250-300.  Opening bid of 50 would have been the norm a year ago with 1 or 2 people bidding.  It would have sole for 80 and I could have made some decent money.

I send them all to a consignment auction house (after careful examination and picking out all of the better pieces).  They sort and bag into different lots and sell in one night. 

After the first bag allow them to offer the buyer the choice for all.  I sold the first bag for 20 and she ended up taking the next 10 bags at the same price because she was afraid someone would bid more.

Sold a harley davidson pinball machine and a terminator 2 on craigslist.  Got calls on both the first or second day from dealers who wanted to pay me wholesale (but would pick up same day and pay cash) so I unloaded quick.  Another person I know has a bunch of them and wont sell this way so he holds them until the holiday season and unloads for premium.

All depends on when you get them - october through december I'm holding on, anything before or after that out the door it goes.

I buy rooms in NYC so there is quite a bit there, well there used to be anyway.  Back in 2009 I got a room for 200 and had a gold and diamond necklace in it that sold for 18k in 2011.  Paid 2500 for a room in 2010 and pulled out 75k in scrap.  I still have it so I'm still kicking myself I didn't unload at $1900/oz but oh well still a once in a lifetime hit. 

As other people mentioned though this is when I was buying many more units a month, around 5-10 a week back in the heyday.
