I don't like the term hoarder. I prefer the term redneck 401K. The stuff's always there if you get in a bind.

I love it ( redneck 401K)... I'm set for life :93:.

I like rusty, just about anything metal

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Consignment & Auction Houses?
« on: August 28, 2014, 03:59:00 PM »
I used a Anyone can Buy or Sell Auction house for the first time this week. It was a Tuesday so the crowd was small but I still made $135, they took 20% so I brought home a little over a 100. Funny thing is I got rid of a lot of stuff that has been around for a long time but didn't make a dent in the basement.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Look Who I Saw Today!

I see Travis look-a-likes at every auction. The shaved head thingy is were it is at I guess. But Gin you have ruined it for me, for every time I read a post by Travis I always heard " the most interesting man in the world" speaking to me. So until I find out other wise I'm assigning the squeaky Pee-Wee Herman voice to you Travis. :93:

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Strange rules at storage auctions

I was at one a couple of weeks ago and the Auctioneer plainly stated " If you step on the thresh hole you cannot bid on this unit" . About the 5th unit he was interested in it (nice antique unit) and started bidding on it himself STANDING ON THE THRESH HOLE, someone called him on it  and the  look on his face was priceless. He composed himself and said he needed to be there to see the bids. He won the unit for $850

Picker's Paradise / Re: How do you find estate sales?
« on: July 31, 2014, 08:41:41 PM »
In my opinion estate sales are overpriced yard sales in my area. "tag" sales can be fun I always offer half of the asking price on something I want, most of the time they take any offer.

The Lounge / "Repurposing" Is that a word?
« on: July 30, 2014, 05:49:57 PM »
While on vacation I was in a Thrift Store and spotted a unique display case. Someone had made a wooden box, put some felt on the bottom and used a picture frame as the top. I have a lot of frames I may make up a few and use them at the flea market.

Any other ideas on repurposing items that seem to be in every unit that don't sell that well?

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Okay... I got busy with LIFE

I have a full basement so usually space is not a problem... I say usually, right now I have a ton of smalls. A new ( anyone can buy or sell auction house) just opened a few miles away, I'm going to try and hit that couple nights a week to make some room.

The Lounge / Well Deserved Two Weeks Off
« on: July 30, 2014, 05:11:47 PM »
Hi everyone, I just finished a two vacation. Had some fun at the beach with the family. I can still hear my granddaughter saying "do again grandpa" as we were playing in the waves. My better half and I hit a few Antique Shops and thrift stores and picked up a couple of Christmas gifts for our son and daughter-in-law, a nice concrete yard decoration with USMC on it for him and a vintage cork screw for her. We started go to a Storage Auction but slept in that day instead   :34: . Ok I'm going to go and catch up on the post I missed. Hope everyone is having a great summer.

The Lounge / Any Old Fogeys Here?
« on: July 08, 2014, 07:55:06 PM »
Vinyl.

Picked up an old Turn Table Saturday for a few bucks. Got it home, cleaned it up and put on one of my 40 year old albums. It sounded good (the crackle of the stylist as it moved across the vinyl) it brought good memories. Cant wait to show it to my granddaughter, she is 4. The look on her face when the music starts should be priceless.

Any old time Rock and Rollers here if so who is your favorite? Mine is The Allman Brothers Band

We are like peas in a pod on Saturdays, storage auctions are not her favorite and prefers by the piece over whole unit auctions, but when we do buy a unit she right there helping to load, sort and trash.....selling not so much. She is really into Estate auctions and a local antique auction.
