Bubba & Ricky Meet Frank From Killeen, TX.
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:40:52 AM »
On next weeks episode (Feb 12th) of Storage Wars Texas, Bubba & Ricky meet Frank, a regular at my local auctions. I just saw the commercial for next weeks show and there was Frank was pissing Bubba & Ricky off because he was buying all of the units.

I wouldn't consider Frank to be a "whale." He does buy a lot of units but he doesn't overpay or run other people up. I have spoken with Frank several times. He used to own a thrift store but had to close it down due to what the reality TV shows have done to our industry. Now, he buys in volume and resells all of the merchandise in Mexico. The guy buys a lot of medium to low end units, especially units full of clothing/household items that he can pick up cheap. I have never understood how it is more profitable to drive a box truck 1,000 miles and sell things in Mexico as opposed to selling locally, but somehow he does well at it. Maybe he's bringing something back with him, if you know what I mean.  ;)  Just kidding, he seems like he's a decent guy.

So it would seems that Frank is doing to them what they've been doing to Jenny for the past few shows. Karma baby, what goes around comes around!

I can think of 2 reasons:

1. More shoppers; Were I live the Mexicans will by everything, the "Americans" only pick.

2. Less competition; How many Americans are going to be brave enough to sell in Mexico?

I would think one would need to drive the largest truck one can get your hands on though to make it profitable at 1,000 mile round trip. A 26' U-Haul is about 24' x 8' x 7' volume, so if you were just taking clothes, appliances, household goods, the smalls; you could probably pack  the contents of 3-6 units in there.

At 10 MPG, thats 100 gallons of fuel, so worse case $4 a gallon $400. The contents from 1 or 2 units could cover that (assuming you sell-out) then you have 2-4 units worth of inventory to cover the trip (I didn't include rental fees, for all I know he owns a big truck)

Hopefully he can pay for all the contents by selling 1-2 units worth of stuff & have 1-2 units worth of stuff for profit (big IF, since no idea what he is paying for inventory, or if paying employees to help)

Travis didn't specify if the 1000 miles was each way or not. So the fuel cost could be double. :(

You're thinking of Frank Guttierez, the cowboy. The Frank I'm talking about is a 40 years old and wears a lot of graphic t-shirts.

Apparently, the auction was held in Killeen, TX. I didn't even know about it. It must have been taped several months ago.

Yeah, it's 1,000 miles there and another 1,000 miles home.

Tonight's Storage Wars Texas is in Killeen which is about 20 miles from where I live in Temple, TX. I just found out that they recorded this episode in June of 2012. Here is the picture of the guy Frank that I mentioned in earlier posts.

Is Frank Military? He has a kind of "Ranger" look. Bad *ss dude if he is...

Frank is the quiet type. I don't know if he's ex military or not. Don't pay any attention to the hair cut. If you live in Killeen long enough, you'll end up with a buzz or flat top too.  :D  It's not at all uncommon for ex Army personnel to stick around Killeen. My grandfather is Army retired and he has lived in Killeen since leaving the Army. My uncle is ex Army, he's the smart one in the family that used the G.I. Bill to become a pharmacist; however, he has never left Killeen. My other uncle is Army retired. He flew helicopters for the Army and now is a flight instructor for the local technical college. He lives in Killeen as well.

Anyway, my point is, despite having minimal industry in Killeen, a lot of ex Army personnel do chose to live here after discharging.
