As many know, due to circumstances, I try mainly for small units.
Got my facilities that cater to downtown apartment dwellers. People that live in small places.
And they PAY. I mean, $75-$100/month for a 2x3 or 2x4x3.....
Pretty easy for people to get behind and not being able to catch up. And they don't pay tht much to store trash.
So....
I'm at a facility today way out in country.
Was early and talking to employee. Some Info I gleamed... All three units up were 4x5. They rent 4x5 units for $25/month. The most over due was 6 months.
Right off the bat I'm thinking who the heck can't come up with $150 to save all thier stuff? They've had months of notices? (Assuming they aren't dead or in jail)
Sure enough, they open the first.....trash. Literally trash. Second, garbage bags of moldy clothes. Third, old a** tv's and bed frames and more trah bags of (I assume) clothes.
Anyone pay attention to cost of unit rental vs the quality of contents?

not really ive had some dyanamite units that were cheap rent and some awfull ones that were rented for high prices

I don't really think about the cost of the unit specifically but do consider the quality of the storage facility and what it charges compared to other ones in the same area. I Try to avoid really crappy storage facilities or at lease think twice before bidding.

Most of the storage places around here all have the same type unit sizes for around the same price. I will give almost any location a chance. Normally after the first 1 or 2 auctions I can determine if it's really worth my time or not to attend them in the future. For the most part I have 2 locations I go to every auction. Then I have 3-5 others that I attend if I have the time.
I've seen a few 10x20 size units with stuff that would fit inside a 5x5. You just never know.

Yes, I do use the quality of the facility and the rental costs as a consideration, but not really as a direct impact on how I am bidding. Typically, what you see is what you get, but if there is a nice looking unit, at a nice higher rent facility, it might influence me to up my final bid limit by $25 or $50 if the bidding is getting close to my limit AND it looks like the bidding is winding down.
If the unit has already blown by my limit by a few hundred dollars, I'm not going to jump in just because we are at one of the nicer facilities.
