2nd auction, first win and CASH!!!!

2nd auction, first win and CASH!!!!
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:17:02 PM »
My first acution was on the 18th and was what I expected - almost 100 people to look at 14 lockers, the first a 5x5 going for $250; after 6 units I left as it was too rich for my blood... :-[

Today was a different story  :D only 10 people for 6 units  - first unit had a nice bed frame and a boflex like machine that was brand new...didn't sell. I would have bid the $20 they were asking but had no way to transport it...I may check with the facility tomorrow to see if I can make an offer... the next 3 were all the same owner that was a contractor (full of doors, windows and construction stuff) same person got all 3 for $275 if I'm not mistaken.  #4 was the crem-dela-crem...a 5x5 stacked high and as full as it could be.  Mostly boxes, duffle bags and a few plastic shopping bags you could not really see what was in them.  Started off at $50, no takers....$30, no takers, so I offered $15, then someone bid $20, I bid $25 and got it!!!!!!!!!!!! :o   The last locker was a 5 x 10 saw a twin bed and a few other things and I walked away.  It went for $15. I figured I would not be greedy and be happy with the locker I got!!!

I spent about 2 hours in 20ish degree temps looking through the boxes trying to see what treasures I now own... in the few things that jumped out at me, I am looking at around $150 for 4-6 items.  That does not count the big storage tub full of china/ceramic/glass bells, or the bit storage tub full of salt and pepper shakers, or the big storage tub full of tableware, or the big storage tub full of new Christmas balls and orniments....they were all behind the cardboard boxes!!!!!!! These tubs are like 36x24x18 if I have to guess.  Even if I only get $1.00 per bell and per S/P set, I'm looking at a good $200 plus the $150, then there are all of the clothes (taking to a resale shop) I realisticly think this may be close to $500 after all is said and done.... I'll keep everyone posted once I get a full inventory!!!  I did rent the locker for the month, so my total hard cost/investment at this point is right at $85 so that is almost 5x return!!!  ;D  ...Next auction is 2/10...

Oh...I almost forgot, the $185 in cash.....

well, no, $1.85 and counting!!! ;)

Well, let me clear some mis-statements...

He is a She; Yes, I'm in Texas, originally from CA, and I have NEVER said "Yee-Haw" to ANYTHING in my life, no matter where I lived.  Now that I am in Texas, we say "Gig'em" when something good happens! and WHOOP when it is AWESOME!!

Congrats on the first unit. Sounds like a decent one. The on thing to remember is winnign the unit isn't the hard part its getting rid of the merchandise. I have so much dishes, cookware, etc your going to find its harder to get rid of than you think, especially at decent prices. You got in at a low enough price though that you'll make an easy profit.

Providing plates, dishes, cookware etc is not nice stuff like calphalon I find the best place to get rid of it is flea markets. At least by me resale shops are really picky about what they will take.

So was this a whoop of a locker ?

Actually what I say when I find a good item in a locker is "YES !" along with a clinched fist and an active little jig !

Where in California did you live ?

By the way somewhere on the forums the 1,000 post went up a few minutes ago.

Well, I have finally gone over all but the salt and pepper shakers.  There were 100+ bells (so far absolutely no interest in them anywhere), 10 Pitcher and bowl sets (sold 5 sets for $23 on E-bay) I don't know how many yards of fabric, about 50 - 60 pieces at 1yard or more, but have most of it listed on a website I set up a number of years ago to sell "things" and sold 12 pieces for over $100 the first day it was posted.  7 loads of wash produced 200+ items listed (so far - still have 3 loads of clothes to sort and list) for a resale event on March 29-31st...priced total comes to $537.00 with the the highest price being $7.50, most items are priced at $2 or $3.  With what is left to price, I anticipate about $750 (my asking price total) if full price is paid, which it won't as the last day of the sale we can have the itmes get marked down 50%, so for grins we will say $375 from the resale event...Then there is the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas things I won't even start to process until fall....
$25 for the unit, $34 for rental, $26 for locks = $85 costs
$23 for pitchers, $100 for fabric, $375 for resale event = $498
$413 estimated profit...
OOOHHHHH :o I forgot, MORE CASH FOUND!!!!  While doing wash, some bills washed out of pockets, so I more than doubled my cash find with two crisp$1 bills...cast take $3.85!!!!!!!!

I have attended a few more auctions this month, but with 100 - 150 peple, I am not going to waist my time until summer when I will be out of a job.  The few acutions I have been to, and sitting down to work out a plan and the results I have had on this one small locker, I plan on going into this full time once my job ends.  It really does take time to process everything and working full time doing something OTHER this processing is very hard.  I will be working the resale shops for the Bells and the S/P shakers, even if I sell them for $20 for the lot of each, I will make $$$.

Ok, so Thursday started the Clothing/Kids consignment sale.  $50 the first day, $100 yesterday and equal to $120 today, but Saturday is Half Price day, so only realizing $60...Grand total $210.  I ended up deciding to donate most if the things that didn't sell so I don't have to store them until the fall BUT I still have about 50-100 more items to take to the Fall sale.

All in all I am very pleased with my locker.  Don't let anyone tell you it is easy to get rid of things because it isn't...it is work!!!  I didn't think to track how much time I spent washing, cleaning, and tagging everything  for sale. Next locker I will have to do that....
