Can I interest you in a nice pool table???

Alright~auctions today with a Phoenix based auctioneer.  Relatively large crowd.  First facility had 10 units.  I've gotten to the point where I say (either to Don or myself) 'gotta get the first unit of the day'.  

Stood around shootin' the **** with the regulars and talking about moving the pool table.  Lots of talk of what we got for it, as some have said they have to practically give them away.  Well auctioneer is ready and away we go......

Doors open and what is the first thing that I see?  You guessed it.......an Olhausen pool table.  Ugh~
Bidding opened at $25 and I found myself bidding.  Well ended up getting it for $225.  It was about a 10X10.  Really not a lot of value showing~some nice speakers, kids stuff, an iron table base (or something~won't know until we finish unloading tomorrow) and stuff.

We carried on for the next 9 units, but didn't really bid again.  Decided we'd forgo the next 2 facilities and unload some of the smaller items.  The first box I looked in I found a bit of gold (a 14k chain~very light) and some sterling jewelry.  Yeah us!  

The speakers are JBL's and in very good shape.  There are 5 of those with two being extra-large woofers.  We were worried about finding the rails of the table, but did find them stored behind some gnarly dirty micro-fiber sofa~yeah!

We caught up with the auction at another facility where we ended up landing a unit for $675 that looked fantastic.......boy howdy looks can be deceiving.  It was full of antique looking furniture including a large wood buffet (it is old and cool) and tons of art~ugh~more art.

There is a lift chair and a hospital bed, but most of the stuff in the unit was either incomplete or junk.  I think we'll recoup, but turning a profit will be tough.  I think we recoup and the art will be the profit and right now......I don't see much, although some of the frames may have some value~we'll see.

Should have quit while we were ahead~
Oh well.....really sad thing is we needed inventory for the swap meet and really didn't end up with any.  Most of the items are going to be the craigslist/ebay stuff.

Oh out of the first unit Don found a large ring that I assumed was a fake, but it says 14K.  I ordered a test kit, but it hasn't arrived yet~anxious to test that one as that would make that first unit a HUGE success!!

So to make a long story short~our cheap unit is gonna pay off nicely and our expensive one will be a bear to move~shouldn't have gotten greedy~

 Hey that crib mattress gives nice shipping foam and scarp (unless you can come up with something for the springs  )

Auctions slow here... Hoping next week will pan out better for us in the auction scene.

The lift chair & the hospital bed are the money in that unit. Get them cleaned up and operational, do some research, find the original price or the new price and discount accordingly and they will sell. Like it or not, nearly half the Country is physicallty disabled one way or another, and there is not enough Medicare, Medicaid, Disibility to go around to pay for everyones medical needs & equipment.

Here is a little secret for all you real auction hunters. Stop looking for gold & silver jewelry & coins. The real "gold" mine in our society, (especially with the aging of the "baby boomers") is medical equipment & supplies. Why do you think Ebay won't let "unlicensed" accounts sell it? Cause the competition knows it's easy money.

Don't try to sell all the prescription drugs we find, i'm sure everyone knows it's the same as selling cocaine on the street. 

Hopefully the are in good working condition and it would'nt take a lot of money to get them operational.

Nah~just an indoor climate controlled unit and at that point I was rushing to get a load in and get back to my side of town to pick up my kids.

Cobia~I hear ya.  We've sold two lift chairs thus far and we never have them long.  Hospital bed is a different thing.  There is no mattress, which may be a blessing ( ), but tougher to sell?  All I know is I don't ever want to move another hospital bed.......my Lord are those things HEAVY!!

OK~so I just finished cleaning out locker #2 (you should have seen my lil Trooper~photos are after I unloaded boxes crammed in around the art).  There are 27 medium to XXX Large paintings in various genres, conditions & frames.  I also have a couple boxes of smaller works (mostly Japanese on rice paper type things).

One of the most disappointing things about this unit is not having the base that this mirror thingy goes on.  I really don't know how to describe it except to say it reminds me of the tramp art piece Brandi & Jared found.  I know it's not, but it is just so unusual.  Really don't know if it has any value as is?

And the second to the last pic is the buffet.  It is a Sligh and the company is still in business.  I will try to contact them to find out more as it's a nice piece and I believe quite old.

It looks like the top to an old buffet. I have seen people use pieces like this above a fireplace mantle. It is very pretty!

I really like the picture of the sailing ship. Let me know when you determine a price....I may have a spot for it!

Man you were not kidding on the art. It really likes you. 

On the mirror thing, think bulldogmom is right it is the top to a side board. The mirror is a little small for most of the ones I have seen.

It does have a piece extending on the bottom of it right? That is a sure sign it is for a sideboard. Would set down in a groove on the lower piece.

Last photo the vase in the hickory farms box. Did that come out of this locker? Very nice piece.

OK~breathing time again.  Yes money the vase came out of that unit along with a couple other pottery pieces and a really cool blown glass bottle.  There was also an Emmet Kelly doll with porcelain hands, feet and head.  Can't find another one like him anywhere!

bulldogmom~I'll let ya know on the sailing ship painting.  Not sure yet what to charge on any of them, but I'll cut ya a good deal.  May end up renting a space at a local antique mall just to move some of these types of things.

I'm ok now with this unit, but frankly......I'm loving the pool table one.  We found a nice headboard/footboard sleigh type bed of metal~will sell immediately here in Tucson.  Also found some other metal pieces but they were incomplete.  May repurpose them or to the scrap yard they go.  We started laughing as I found a nice Cuetec pool cue in a case.  I looked at Don and quoted Daryl 'this locker is just crappin' cash!'

OH and for the record~I'll move 10 pool tables before I ever voluntarily move a hospital bed~

Yes, I just sold our 2nd pool table.  So update~won that unit for $225 and right now we're UP about $580 on that unit and I still have the JBL speakers and some other items......all in all~I'm thinkin' a grand in profits.

Now the art unit~still $150 shy on that one, but we'll recoup and ended making about $500 on it.....but somebody please slap me twice if I ever buy another 'art' unit......yikes......

All in all we were getting a bit worried as we had a terrible day out our local flea and the phone (craigslist) wasn't ringing.....now today?  We did $1000!

If there's one thing I hate worse than mattresses, it's pool tables !  Fortunately they make their presence known
pretty much like mattresses do and are therefore avoidable (unless there are 100 boxes of gold bars there also).

You've done great with them !  I'm sure you'll get another.

Gratz rockin - sounds like a nice haul.  I myself prefer to stay away from pool tables.  I'd love one to use, just don't have the space to hold one.  If I ever get one I'll have to sell it out of the unit.
