Title: Dusty lockers with grandma's goodies

Sorry about the title, it just had a nice ring to it.

Have you ever bought a dusty locker that hasn't seen the light of day for years? If so, how long had the stuff been there?  Has it been your experience that units like this typically belonged to elderly people?

Bought one last year (2012) that had been in storage for 16 years. Won it for $325, sold everything for around $1500. Monthly rent $75. Don't know what the rental rate was 16 years ago, but lets assume an average of $50 a month for 16 years (minus the 6 months they stopped paying causing it to go to auction) equals 186 months times $50 equals $9300 spent storing property over 16 years that only had a retail value of $1500!!

Got on in January 2012 that had been rented in 1982 so 30 years. Had not been touched since rented the guy moved to CA and left stuff here.  He died 8 years ago and his girlfriend kept paying till she died late 2011. Was very good locker, high end fisihing gear, a belt with silver and gold buckle lots of neat things.  Paid $275 made at least 3 times that and still have the neatest stuff left. Got one in the summer that had been in st0rage 24 years adn it was a total bust. Find a lot that have been rented more then 10 or 15 years.  Not always any good but the potential is there.
