Title: Trashy unit =(
Post by: AuctionFace on July 20, 2011, 11:29:16 PM
I bought 10x10 unit the other day for $345. It was my first and I will definetly learn from it. bought from where i was standing I saw about 25 boxes 5 dressers an older freezer, washer and dryer an Xbox and some other misc.  I ended getting a lkr that was just full of stuff someone just stashed in there without organizing. I ended up finding food and spices still in 1 kitchen cabinet and in a garbage bag.. :-\ and it also had too many vhs tapes and scratched up dvds that werent fixable. But on the bright side I sold the washer and dryer right away for $175 to a friend some of the furniture was antique so i had a guy come pick it up for $130. sold some of the crap furniture that was in very used condition and knick knacks at a yard sale and made $75. I did find some rare items such as a Howard Miller mantle clock worth $60 in its condition, An etched marble art piece (framed) worth $115. I Still have a dresser to sell and some odds and ends stored away for now.

Also on another note I really disliked the fact that they left clothes in all the pieces of furniture and trash here and there so it took forever to clean out....definetly need to learn a little more...

Don't let it discourage you though. Your going to see plenty of trash doing this. Just think of it as an expensive work out!

Trashy unit? Are you kidding? Based on what you described (washer & dryer $175, furniture $130, clock $60, art $115) thats practically a treasure chest in my neck of the woods! LOL.  Looks like you turned a profit as well. Anyway, like others have said welcome to the club! The sad thing is if your not careful those units can get A LOT uglier.

Just wait till you find a package of Bologna that has been in storage for 6 months. Or my personal favorite was the 10 year old ketchup ever seen black ketchup?  Of course the baby sheets with poop in them was pretty bad to but it was dried out. Then there was the time was pulling stuff and grabbed a dead rotten rat by the tail.  Boy did that stink. I coudl go on o and on about the gross ugley smelly stuff but who want to hear stories about used sanitary napkins.  I like it when you find clothes in the drawers sometimes it means treasure still left in the drawers as well.

some folks shouldnt be allowed to own pets. geesh it's ok to clean stuff after pets mark it or was it the preveouse owner? Man that crap stinks....and it dont go away with time...it's like ok so where do I pick this up at? I'd like to take a uv light to one of these unites. I'd probably abandon it and wind up getting banned I try not to think I just do.

Really have to watch out for units with crooked owners digging through and cherry picking then selling the junk, I got one at last auction I went to and I should have known better, but nothing decent $75 dollar losss, and talked to some others who spent more and most said the same thing. The shows are causing more owners to look through and then sell the crap, any opinions on this? They had keys for every unit they sold that day, do the auction you guys see cut the lock right there? Oh yeah, I can give this peice of advice STAY AWAY FROM WEEKEND AUCTIONS. There were 300 plus people for these 40 units.

The unit I got Tue had enough spiders to make a horror movie, big ones everywhere that gave me the willies. I'll take trash over spiders any day. Bombed the unit and sprayed it to and still got bit by something. I don't think it was a brown recluse but poopy sheets don't make my skin crawl. Be carefull out there!

@ Millertime about the spiders...

And thats why customers at the flea market don't understand why we come across the table going for the throat when we are selling a $150 item for $25, and they say "I'll give you $10".

Disclaimer: (I do not actually do this, nor do I support violence against 'pain in the butt' customers, but I must admit the thought comes to mind.)  ;D

Makes one wonder about these folks that just take this stuff home and tossing it in there garage. the roach's and spiders must love there home not to mention stowed away rodents. Black widows are quite common here and carry a nasty bite.  I may travel 150 miles to an auction buy, load, and go I do have an out building the stuff go's in and it gets a few bug bombs and closed doors before I leave. I have found these blue bars of rodent bait for .10 a bar I just take as many as I want out of a 5 gallon bucket toss em in a bag at my feed store and they eat these up seems like $1.00 worth last me 6 months.
Wile I've killed a few snakes in lkrs I dont think I've ever brought any back that I know of anyhow.
yea even if theres a trashy lkr next door the buggs spill over to the good lkr next door.

At the verry least bug bomb your garage as soon as you close the door, and use lots of rodent bait in there.
I have bought good looking lkrs just to get into them to find the rodents have had a field day with the stuffing of that $1500 leather couch that I knew was good from what I could see when I bought the locker. chewed holes in the drawers of cabonates to get at the trash left inside. so yea take these rodents home and lets see your home with chewed wireing in a year. etc. etc. etc. $1.00 every 6 months I see as good insurance and its cheap. The bug bombs are a bit more pricey but well worth it for the agravation they can cause as well.

Trashy lockers are a verry large problem period in my opinion. but thats just my 2 cents.

lol, word of advice on that one, it did not use to be that way, most of your veterans either have stores or flea market booths, which in case if its a flea market booth they dont usually show up to auctions, its primarily the noobs that watch tv and have a job that show up on weekends
