How did you stumble onto storage auctions? Tell us about your first auction and the first locker you bought.

I have been wanting to give this a try for a long time but just got around to bidding on an on line auction. Well, I got it for $130 and will drive up to get it tomorrow. From the pics I can see a washer and dryer, denim Kiss jacket, box for a Kiss fountain, the top of a stringed instrument, big keyboard box, battery charger, and a bag with posters sicking out. It is a mess and looks like someone loaded it with a pitchfork. I can't wait to go look at what I got. One concern I have is the rest of the auctions that when with this one had pictures that where taken this month but mine the pis where taken like 3 months ago. I am not sure what this might mean. We will see...

That does sound odd. It could be a unit which had already been auctioned off. The buyer might have removed the good stuff and thrown the other stuff back into the unit...which might explain why it looks like it was loaded with a pitchfork. If that turns out to be the case, and it wasn't disclosed in the listing, you might have some recourse. I wouldn't worry to much though, if the washer and dryer work (and they normally do), you've got your money back and a slight profit.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks and glad to be here! I feel like I have learned a lot from you all. Anyway, I had not thought about it maybe being a plundered unit and no, it was not disclosed in the post. You very well may be right. There was an empty spot down the center of the unit. I wounder if they searched the back wall. It looks like they might have not got that far and if this is the case maybe took a car load out. I am a bit concerned. It would suck to drive all the way up there and only find empty boxes, broken stuff, and a washer and dryer. Now I am less excited but live and learn I guess. I will let you know what I find.

Hopefully that won't be the case, but it does happen every now and then. It's just part of the business. Just remember one simple rule: only bid on what you can see. Then, everything you can't see is pure profit. You should be okay though. I've never sold a working washer and dryer for less than $170, and those were 30 years old, mismatched and beat to hell. Oh, and washers & dryers sell extremely fast on Craigslist. If you price them right, they'll be gone in less than 48 hours.
