Are sealed bid auctions common in your area?
« on: December 06, 2012, 10:41:30 AM »
Lately, I have read a couple of articles where the author claims that most storage auctions are sealed bid auctions.  ::) Less than 1% of storage auctions in my area are sealed bid auctions. What percentage of storage auctions are sealed bids in your area?

There is one facility in Moultrie, GA that I go to does sealed bids.  I have gotten 2 units and make ok on both.  The manager told me the owner has another facility in Albany, GA and they do seal bids too.  i don't like sealed bids, but the facility is very well maintained and most units I see have better than average contents.

i love sealed bid auctions prefer them to typical style auctions. yeah sometimes you may "overpay" for a unit in the sense you bid 300 and closest person to you is 150 some may say you overpaid 150 but thats not really true. if you bid a number your comfortable getting in at to make a profit who cares what you coulda got it for.

i think sometimes with traditional auctions people get caught up in the competition or competitiveness of the whole thing and sometimes bid higher than they would like. sealed bid takes that im gonna beat this guy factor out of it and you can just bid what ur comfortable having to make back.

i actually did a blog post about this topic about 2 years back freestorageauctionlists(dot)blogspot(dot)com/2011/04/silent-sealed-bid-auctions-vs-live.html if your into these auctions you may find it interesting
