It looks like a few of the large facility chains are converting storage units to cylinder locks. They have already converted their vacant lockers. They continue converting lockers when a tenant moves out so that they don't have to cut and replace locks. In my opinion, the cylinder locks are much more secure. I have yet to see one removed in less than 5 minutes of drilling. I think this may discourage a lot of thieves.

I just bought a bunch of oak cabinets from a business that shut down. I ended up pulling out six trailer loads of stuff (7x14 extended height trailer) so after dumping a couple off in my shop, I rented a "dollar special" at Public Storage. Well, the "dollar special" used to actually cost $23 for the month but then they started making you buy insurance to get the special. So, by the time you got the special, it was actually running $31 for the month. But this time, it came out to a little over $40! Now, to get the dollar special, you have to buy the insurance AND their cylinder lock! I'm hoping that once I vacate this one and keep the lock that they won't make me buy a lock every single time I do the special!
Still a good deal......where else can you get a 10x30 for 40 bucks for a month? Just don't want to keep the stuff there longer than that......it's discounted to $191 for the next three months, and then a little over $210 after that! Dollar specials are a great tool if you just use it for the first month!

It's an alright deal, however, many storage facilities offer the first month for free, with no administration fees and fine print.

Some do, but some of those also make you stay for a minimum amount of time, and if you get the first month free and have to stay for three months, it doesn't pencil out.
