Home Interior Consignment Stores

Does anyone use a furniture consignment store to sell their high end furniture? What % of the selling price do they usually take? Does the stuff typically sell for a higher price?

I haven't used any so I don't know how fast the stuff sells, but they typically charge 45% of the sales price as a fee, so you basically are only getting $55 out of every $100 in sales.

Just responded to another post about your high end furniture dilemma.. The consignment shops around here take 45-50%. But, they typically sell it for more than I can on my own. So if they can sell it for 20-30% higher than I could, I'm only looking at a 20-25% discount from my original asking price.

The consignment shop I use in Raleigh starts discounting 10% after 30 days, and an additional 10% every 30 days after. So there is some higher risk of making very little if your item sits for a while.

To prevent that, this consignment has a very strong Facebook following, they post their own ads on craigslist and tweet new items. They do a lot to get your item out the door to keep fresh stuff coming in.

There's a higher end consignment store near me I used to use alot. As far as margins if you wanted cash on the spot they gave you nearly nothing on consignment they actually paid out pretty fair I think 70% of whatever it sold for which isnt too bad.

They actually were doing really well, started in one store in a strip mall and as the business grew bought one unit next to them and later a third. They did houseware and a little bit of womens clothes, jewelry, and high end purses.
