I am all over and behind on my shopping. How do you prepare for the holiday season?

If the items are new or nice enough to gift, why not? I gave gifts to everyone in my family last year and the only thing I purchased at a store was some toys for my daughter. My mother got a brand new wine refrigerator. It cost more than I paid for the entire unit it was in and I got to keep a few grand on top of that.
