Title: Unisex Problem
Post by: Travis on March 14, 2013, 09:54:37 PM
I have a new business associate that I met online. We have been working together for a few weeks now and I assumed that this person was a man based on his/her name which is a predominantly male unisex name. Well, he/she mentioned something that made me think that he/she was a woman. I looked this person up and was able to find a profile pic on another website. Even after looking at the picture, I'm still confused. It could be a well dressed metrosexual man or a short haired woman. I don't want to be rude and just ask. Maybe I should say something like "are you married?" to see if I can get some more info...but that might backfire on me as well if the person is gay. It's a confusing world we live in today.  As Phil Robertson once said "Women with whiskers... its a bummer."

Why does it matter either way if this person is beneficial to you in a business sense? Go watch the movie "The Associate" for some perspective.

Have you spoken to them on the phone or anything? A pitch in the voice may help you.

No, but I had a dream last night that I was...and in the dream I still couldn't tell a difference. I guess for now, as long as he/she is doing a good job, it really doesn't matter.

Oh my !

A politician would be a dead duck saying something like this.

Well, if you haven't realized it by now, I'm not politically correct.  ;D

Actually, I've known it for a long time.

Do you realize how many ducks you just insulted?! I suspect they'll be filing a brief in the morning.

Don't you mean filing a "bill."  :D  Duck...Bill...Get it?

Is there something you want to tell us Travis? I mean, you are not using your own picture for a forum avatar, maybe you want to tell us that you are a chick as well?

The profile pic represents my alter ego. Well, at least the one I had before the wife, kid and job that straps me to a computer 12 hours a day.  :'(

Phil

His picture is available online, but to find it you would have to be a "stalker" !  ;D

What's with the "stalker" in quotes? I've seen that a few times around the forum.

I would come out and clear the air with him/her. Just be honest and say you didn’t know and you were wondering if the person was a female or male.

Nothing wrong with that.

Phil

You could ask if they're married, have kids, etc. If they're married, ask about their spouse. What's their name? What do they do for a living? etc.. Don't just ask for their spouses name though.. That would be a bit creepy.

StorMe thinks I'm a stalker because I piece together information about people here and look at their sales sites like eBay, Craigslist, etc.  He doesn't realize I'm not yet at the "Apex" of my investigative ability.

Just do a search for "stalker" and the relevant threads will pop up.

I think you're confusing StorMe with myself, unless StorMe sent you a separate message. I did say that you stalked my craigslist ads and since then you've mentioned my street name and town.. :)

Nope, I'm not confused. StorMe told Travis he should reign me in as I might scare off newcomers !

As to my mentioning your street and town, only YOU would have known that as I mentioned both in two separate posts on separate days and in ways which didn't indicate they were a street and town. Now maybe there will be new detectives trying to find you !   ;D

Don't give up your day job(s)...comedy is a much harder gig than buying lockers or running websites.

That's actually very true. Watching Ralpie May bomb his act gave me a new respect for the profession. The other acts did pretty well, but they probably weren't going through withdrawals.

I used to do stand up.. Just open mics, got paid for it once.. Still have friends that do it. It's a tough thing, not getting laughs. It's instant feedback from your "employers". If you really want to see people bomb, go to open mic nights.. Scary stuff..
