Title: $30 Best Buy Gift Card!
Post by: Travis on February 01, 2013, 02:04:10 PM
The person who has the most "legitimate" posts in The Treasure Chest during February will receive a $30 Best Buy gift card.

I'll probably start doing something like this every month in categories that need a little boost.

Uh oh, get ready for another round of Movieman news posts.

Please define "legitimate" and then stick by your definition. Changing the "rules" 10 days into the competition isn't "kosher".

Uh oh, get ready for another round of Movieman news posts.

That's why the rules need to be defined. The last time an offer was made like this it was for $100 and my "legitimate" links to sources in Texas were deleted (cough, cough) and the offer was taken off the books completely.

Oh well.

Don't get too excited, it's just for topics/posts in The Treasure Chest. I'm trying to get this category above 1,000 posts.

Natural posts. Not short responses like "I agree," "Ha Ha" or " :)"
Posts in this thread don't count.
Minimum 5 posts to qualify.
Gift card will be sent out March 1st.

It's not my fault no one participated except one person who was only trying to spite me. BTW, you should get that cough checked out, it sounds serious.

It's not my fault no one participated except one person who was only trying to spite me. BTW, you should get that cough checked out, it sounds serious.

So if I read the above quote correctly:

1) Only one person (me) contributed links to "sources" in the entire section during the time when you first
announced the $100 prize.

2) You deleted the sources I contributed because you thought I was trying to "spite" you by contributing sources (like yours) that were available in Texas.

Now of course I (and the rest of us here) don't have the ability to delete posts made by anyone else, but then that's what goes along with owning the forum I guess. Doesn't sound "right" to me, but what do I know. I'm just the poor schmuck who's been contributing here for over two years, and saying it like it is whether it was Drew or you at the helm.

I guess the final "blow" was when you then cancelled your entire offer after it had been running for 10 days. I can only assume you didn't want to give $100 to anyone who could have contributed as few as ONE source (since no one was contributing at all during that time).

You and I have had our difference from time to time Travis (before and after you owned the forum) but I have to tell you that took the cake....and then you later ask me for favors (which I won't mention in detail here) as I like to think I am above that degree of response.

So, now that the "official" rules have been posted, I feel I (and others) might be able to contribute and expect the "prize" would actually be given.

Since you feel the need to elaborate, I shall too.

First and foremost, the posts you made were hours before I announced the contest making them ineligible.

Some of the posts you made were linked to companies that were no longer in business.

Most of the posts were national resources which would have been more appropriately posted in the Multi-State Storage Auction Resources category. Multi-state storage auction resources were excluded from the contest.

If I recall correctly, you were opposed to me disclosing storage auction resources to the public in the first place. Once I did, you tried to make a point by adding several posts in the Texas section. Whether you admit that you did this to spite me, is irrelevant. Had you of made relevant posts in the California resources section, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.

You know that I appreciate you, just like I appreciate every other member that contributes to this forum. I would like to continue incentives like cash and gift cards to make the forum a little more exciting and to continue it's growth. Hopefully, we'll see a better response this go around. If the incentives don't help, they'll go away. If they do work, they'll get bigger and better.

Since you feel the need to elaborate, I shall too.

First and foremost, the posts you made were hours before I announced the contest making them ineligible. Some of the posts you made were linked to companies that were no longer in business.

Since both the offer and my submitted threads are gone it is a matter of "he said, he said".

Most of the posts were national resources which would have been more appropriately posted in the Multi-State Storage Auction Resources category. Multi-state storage auction resources were excluded from the contest.

Understandable the out of business thread could be deleted. Others (IMO) should have been moved to the national resources area.

I was opposed to you posting resources to storage auctions when (as a member, not an owner) you were pushing your Texas business in a wide variety of threads on the forum. Once DREW made a special section for PLUGS, it became a different matter. It is one thing to put such "pushes" in a signature line and another to put them as links in irrelevant thread areas to solicit Texas business.

There was no point in my posting sources to California auction sources as you had already done so at the time I posted the Texas sources. The essential difference is IMO that you could delete what I had contributed but I could not delete what you had contributed.

It will be interesting to see who and how many contribute to the Treasure Chest area.

In the section just above this sentence the RED text are Travis' original statements and the BLUE text represents my response to those points.

It's obvious that we both remember what went on that day differently. It's really not important. It has taught me that I need to be more specific whenever I make an offer like this.

I don't think I can participate in the "Treasure Chest" forum cause anything great I find & post, Movieman will just cross reference it with Craiglist & Ebay & "out" my identity to the public.  ;)

I'd like to keep a little anonymity in here.  :P

Well, I haven't done that to you or anyone else here, so I wouldn't do it later.
The satisfaction in that regard is simply "knowing" the facts, not in revealing them to others.
(well OK, there are SOME exceptions, but it's not with members).

As an example, I didn't "out" the member here who sold store gift cards on eBay and got three negative feedbacks for not actually sending them out to the buyers. If THAT isn't aggregious, nothing is.

I know what you mean.  MovieMan is an A**hole!

I find good stuff in a locker, list it on eBay/CL and then he goes and posts those listing around the Internet where just anyone can see them?!    Ups the views, possible gets more bidding and makes me money?   WTF is up with that?!

Seriously MM, I don't post listings so people can see them?!   Come on!    ;D

@cobia. I get your point, just some humor here.  No offense intended.......

Drop off? Umm, okay. Since I took over in November 2012, new posts have increased 200-300%, new topics are up 300-400% and we have set new forum records for traffic & number of users online. Overall, there seems to be a better "vibe" and a lot more activity. Sure, there are a few members that are MIA, but I don't see how that could be attributed to me purchasing the forum.

Hey Travis, To qualify for this $30 gift card, is there going to be a special topic/thread just for posting "treasures" for this contest or is it going to be for posting & commenting anywhere in the treasure chest section?

Do we only get credit for posts about items WE find or does replying to a thread with "Hey , thats cool, I got one of those out of a unit last year, great find!"; count?

Alias300....

Not sure I really follow your post #14 above, but I personally take no offence.

I know the eBay IDS (and some Craigslist indicators) on more than a few posters here and I use them just to see what those folks are up to and selling. Never hurts (IMO) to see what is selling (and where).

I specifically don't mention things I am selling on eBay because I don't want anymore competition for a given item than already exists there.

If I have an item on eBay for $100 and some poster here lists theirs for $50 buy it now it probably is going to woo away some buyer that MIGHT have chosen mine; of course we'll never know for sure. ;D

It was meant as sarcasm and not towards you MM......

Meaning was if you knew my eBay listings.....heck yeah I'd want you to post elsewhere.  More views, more possible bids....

Tho, I don't post CL ad's here since those are to easy to F with people.   I could just see all the spam thrown at it from someone I may have said the wrong thing to by acident........

Man....does any of this make sense?   Doc put me on a new medication.   Whew!   Fun stuff.....

Does it count as treasure if say you buy a unit and the only thing in it is a 9mm Glock.  But you paid $1000 for the unit.

I've found a few cool things this year. Some of it i'm keeping & not sure I want the "public" to know about, and some things i'm waiting to sell before I do the full disclosure.

Travis,

If you put up a seperate Treasure Chest in the VIP room, I would be happy to post there. I just don't see the need to give the general public any incentive to get into storage auctions by posting my "best ofs".  :-*

The VIP room is sort of a general category, you can talk about anything in there. No need to put in sub-categories.  ;)

See reply #29 just above. It explains why you might not have seen the section area and the 6 or so threads inside it.

If your original Alias screen name was combined with Alias300 count I think you would be in. Maybe Travis can fix that, though Drew didn't seem able to.

Title: Re: $30 Best Buy Gift Card!
Post by: Alias300 on February 27, 2013, 01:09:31 PM
Non-invasive heart surgery.  The kind they go in thru an artery.    No one can tell me why but all of a sudden I've been going into Afib.  To the point they have to shock me to get my heart back in rhythm.

Meds didn't work and horrible side effects so trying surgery where they burn sections of our heart to create scar tissue so electrical signals don't pass thru.

It's weird cause last Friday I ran 45min on treadmill, just fine.   Yesterday I walked up a flight of stairs and felt like I was having a heart attack.

I find is suspicious that I had shoulder surgery last year and right after this started.  Went to one doctor when it was bad and he said it looked like I had a embolism.   Related?   Don't know.

Funny thing is all the doctors say its not related.
But ask what causes Afib?   They don't know.

So?   You don't know what causes this condition but its not related to surgery?
How do you know it's not related if you don't know what causes it?! :-[

When I was driving down the freeway a few years ago, I stated getting stabbing pains in my chest. They lasted about 5 minutes. I was starting to get worried and almost drove myself to the emergency room. I went to my regular doctor the next day...found out my cholesterol and blood pressure were off the charts. Went to a cardiologist and went through all of the tests only to be told that everything looked fine.

Anyway, what you're going through is not even in the same league as what i went through. I wish you all the luck in the world and I'll be praying for you. Now, I'm off to make a bacon and egg sandwich.  ;D  Kidding of course.

Post by: Alias300 on February 28, 2013, 11:26:54 AM
Thanks!

Hopefully it works.   I have no interest in being shocked again.

They had a hard time figuring out what he problem was cause I never went in while it was happening.
Run on treadmill, fine.   Cholesterol, fine.  Load pressure, fine.   I could stand to gain a few pounds so weight is fine.

I'm no gym type person but I do some cardio and light weights 3-5 times a week.

Wasn't unil I went in *while* it was going on did they pick up the problem on EKG.
Thought I was having a heart attack for sure.   Hurt so bad.  Couldn't breath.

Tried meds first but they sucked and I'm not taking meds for the rest of my life if the problem can just be fixed.   Plus the meds don't stop the problem. Just reduce the likelihood of an attack.....

WhoooHoooo!    Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!!

As you see I survived surgery.   Did have a slight complication.  90 minute estimated time turned to five hours on table.   Heart just didnt want to cooperate.   Kept going into Afib.  Kept having to break out the paddles.....actually they are patches but "breaking out the patches" doesn't have the same ring to it.  ;D

They cranked that baby up to 300j.   Feels like I took a baseball bat to the side of my rib cage!
And it F'd up my shoulder.....

Other than that everything went great.  Really not a bad procedure.
Won't be cleaning out any storage units for a while.  Said it takes about 3 months for heart to heal to a point you really notice a difference. A week before I can start hitting the gym just to walk, maybe some light resistance training.  At least 4-6 weeks before I can start to really do heavier physical activities.

Though don't know how much I can contribute right now.   Just running errands for 2hrs yesterday and I took a 6hr nap!     No auctions or even pick'n for a couple weeks.
