Estate pick

Some nice estate sales today.....

Best pick:

Looking thru basement and found a dirty old canvas bag with leather bottom.  Ws pretty cool so pulled it out to see if I would be able to clean it up.  Inside was a bunch of chisels.   I've done okay with them before but it's a hit or miss if you don't know about them....which I don't.  I've got some that turned out to be worthless even tho they *looked* expensive.

These looked decent enough so asked worker how much for it all.  Did the "I really just want bag but the tools are kind cool.....I haven't even really looked whts in here...."

He said $20.  I rushed to cashier and got out of there.

Sitting here now researching.  They are all  S.J. ADDIS. or JP ADDIS.  Made in England.  SJ being mid-1800's and JP up to 1920's.    SJ considered to be the finest made back in the day.

There is 14 in total and a bunch of other stuff that I don't really know what they are yet.  Some small vise's, punches.....

The chisels I need to research price some more but have found them to go for $30-$150 each.
I have to figure out exactly what I have.   Should get at least $400 out of this pick and <crossing fingers> possibly upwards or over $1000.

I was making out the difference between $20 and $1000. Out of ignorance someone may have been in great loss but You proved to be smarter.

Yeah, that was a great score and doesn't happen often to me.
I've made about $300 and haven't sold the best ones yet.  I'm going to ebay rather than Craigslist those and haven't gotten around to it.   Frankly, I like them and just not ready to let go.   I like to fix things and they are nice to have.  One day I'll convince myself that my skill level and ambition doesn't warrant expensive chisels and cheap ones will work just as well.....
