Title: Things You Personally Collect
Post by: Broski1984 on September 27, 2014, 11:40:40 AM
Unsure if this is the right place to put it, so I apologize if it isn't!

In the business, what do you personally collect, if anything? Is there anything out there you can't part with when you find it in a storage locker, at an estate sale or some place else?

--

I personally have a weak spot for taxidermy. Yes, that's right. Taxidermy.

If I see one ****ty stuffed squirrel in a locker I'll bid it up that much more. If I see one tacky deer hoof candle holder on AuctionZip, I'll drive an hour to attend that auction.

I've gotten enough dead deer to have my own (entirely male) herd at this point.

Sounds more like an obsession for taxidermy than a weak spot. :)

It's getting there, so I can't really argue. Few more years and I may be on a very special issue of Hoarders: Buried Alive at this rate!

I don't like the term hoarder. I prefer the term redneck 401K. The stuff's always there if you get in a bind.

At first, I was like "that's strange, you collect Vaseline jars?" I actually had to Google Vaseline glass. Apparently that's the other name for Uranium Glass.

Well I am strange of course you MUST be to be in this business. Lol.   But yes uranium glass is the same as vaseline glass. I have a somewhat large collection but would love to come across a locker one of these days with a nice collection in it that would make my day!!!

It's a numbers game. The more you buy, the better your chances are of coming across what you're looking for. You probably won't see a lot of Uranium glass from the outside of a unit since most will be wrapped in newspaper and tucked inside of a box.

I thought that whip icon might give you a hint, since that's where you used it. :)

Same here. We've found some amazing kitchen gadgets. We need to downsize a bit though. The best was probably the 16 piece gold plated silverware or the NIB hard anodized cookware set. The Pyrex food storage containers are pretty nice as well. Still waiting for a George Foreman ceramic grill to come along.

My most useful was a brand new Showtime Rotisserie Over - Was big enough to put a 14lb turkey into for thanksgiving...

I have a really really cool  cheese/salad Shredder/meat grinder that has suction cups to hold it down on the counter.

Do sofa's count? I'm on my third and final sofa from a storage unit. It's a super-comfortable L-shaped couch with cup holders, and recliners, and it's just basically awesome.

Same here. I bought this 10X15 unit that was packed floor to ceiling with boxes and kids toys. Didn't really see anything of value, but all of the merchandise I could see looked new. These people spent a LOT of money on their kids, which gave me a good feeling about the unit. Turned out that all of the furniture was in the back. There was a 3 piece sofa set (9' sofa, 7' sofa and love seat) which was practically brand new. Since it was really good quality furniture, we decided to upgrade. Also found several pieces of gold jewelry in this unit.

I am an ardent fan of jerseys and my huge collection ranges from football jerseys, basketball jerseys, soccer jerseys, ice-skating jerseys, and everything else jerseys. I do not wear them neither do I display them out at home. I just love admiring them occasionally when I get bored with nothing much to do at home.

Oh no!  I collect way to much stuff i find in the units:
anything video game related
anything 80s or 90s nostagia related
board games
legos
comic books
star wars
transformers
knives and swords
military stuff
odd religious items
koontz, king, and Rice books
twilight, hungergames, 50 shades books (every unit has atleast 1, i must have 15 copies of each)
pins
lunch boxes

I have 2 rooms devoted to this, one room for things i'm nostalgic for, another for the weird oddity type stuff.

Same here, except instead of rooms, that's what I decorate my house with. My style is a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Steampunk.
