Title: Unit with a car inside.
Post by: alloro on November 11, 2011, 12:19:26 AM
Yep, saw a good one today. The door goes up and sitting in front of a truckload of tools, golf clubs, a metal detector, and skis, just to name a few items...sits a mint condition blue Dodge Daytona. The inspection sticker on the windshield said 1999. To me that means that for the past 12 years no mileage was put on that car. It didn't take long for the auction price to explode, finally reaching the winning bid of $4,900.

Doesn't mean the car was in storage since 99 and doesn't mean its logged no miles since 99, just that it hasn't been inspected since 99 and hasn't been legally plated since 99.

Remember mint look can still have a high mileage or a blown engine.  That bid seems a little high for that car.

sure hope there is 4800 bucks worth of other items in there.. unless it's a shelby that car is not worth much regardless of condition.

A car that has been sitting for a few years can have TONS of problems. rusted brakes, bad fluids that eat out metal parts, flat spots on the tires...

Plus the daytona was made until what? the mid 90s all the way back in to the 80's.. that car could have north of 100,000 on it already.

The way he describes the car, I'll give it a $2500 price tag.

From the description, $4,900 would of been a fine bid. Car, tools, sporting equipment, metal detector. I seriously doubt I would of bidded that much on it. But I still think there is plenty of room for profit on it.

I forgot I bought a car in a unit. It was a circa 1990 toyota supra . There were about 6 bidders there. Nothing else in the unit- we asked the  auctioneer if we could walk around it. It looked ok - I didn't know a thing about it. But it looked interesting. I got it for $700+/-. The really good thing- previous owner must've known he was losing it - title was in the car. The bad news was no motor. Hood was closed and we couldn't touch. I got quite lucky that I sold it within a day or so right out of the unit. It could have been a real PITA.
