Title: What I thought was brass was
Post by: bwd111 on August 29, 2011, 04:14:29 PM
Gold! Found 6 braclets in the unit I was talking about last week that I paid 210.00 for that had the kirby vacuum in it2500 for vacuum and was just offered 1350.00 at pawn shop for braclets but I would never in hell sell to pawnshop. Lesson is never assume always get stuff checked out. The way I found out is I found a ring and had my gf go to pawn shop to get the price happens to be the pawn shop wanted to give 6 bucks for ring and 1350.00 for gold. What a great day.

If a pawn shop offers you 1350, multiply that by three and you have the real value in that gold.

Any truth to what I've heard that if you melt the gold down and bring it in in block form that's it's worth more?

That is great bwd.  I hope some of this jewelry I found today will be like that.  Doubt it as it all looks and feels like costume jewelry but I put it all up to sort very carefully.

usually pawn shops do 60% spot

Quote
What does the "Spot Price" mean? Generally speaking, the spot price is the given cash price of a commodity, like silver, gold or platinum, at a given time and place. It never includes the "extra" costs you may have to pay in buying something, like broker commissions, transaction and storage fees, delivery fees, seller markups, etc

and you can sell it at the jewelry store (not in the mall but by itself in a shopping center of some sort)  and you will get like 90% spot.

lets say

todays gold price is 1780.50 an ounce

you have 2 grams of gold which is 1.29dwt (pennyweight) @ 100% spot is $66.80

Pawnshop will give you $ 40.08

jewelry will give you $ 65.46

thats a 25.00 mark up..

now theres a difference in pawn shop and selling gold to a jewelry.

pawn shop - you can get it back
jewelry shop - you sell it and never get it back.

Outstanding job!  One of the best purchases I made for buying lockers was a silver and gold testing kit. (6) Acids and a scale. I also bought a diamond tester. Some of my storage finds were real gold and real diamonds. Never guess. Good luck out there!
