Just when I thought I had seen it all, this had to come along.
This tenant must have been on some good stuff! What were they thinking?

They were apparently afraid rain might get into the unit and ruin the TV.

If that were the case, wouldn't it have been easier to set it on top of the desk?

Then what would they do with the stuff on the desk?

I don't know, maybe throw it in the pile of trash surrounding it?

I'm going with....
It was sitting on something. They wanted what it was sitting on but couldn't lift TV off.
Tied it to rafters. Pulled item from under.....
???????

Definitely looks like part of a pulley system..

Perhaps Wile E Coyote rented the unit to set a trap for the Roadrunner. Anvils are hard to find these days and pianos & safes can get expensive.
-
haha! A modern day Roadrunner scene!

Possibly an inventor's prototype... a "FLOATING TV"... great for cramped areas, small spaces , space saving,,,, and at night you could place it over the entrance door as part of the "ACME SECURITY and ANVIL COMPANY" CEO Wile E. Coyote

Or maybe in the 1990's, when this TV was more than a boat anchor, a thief was tunneling through the ceiling and was trying to steal the TV. In the middle of the heist, he decided it was to heavy and gave up.

I would be worried about the TV falling. I never saw something like this. A TV hanging in the air? I wonder what they wee thinking. lol

It's "satellite" television

I have to say, I've never seen anything like that before! I once had a unit with built in shelving (lots of it) that I had to remove as part of the unit, but a floating TV... not once.
