My first sort of yard sale.

My first sort of yard sale.
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:42:07 PM »
I purchased 3 units and my daughter 2 in the month of June.  So I was a very inventory rich person when I added all of the units to our yard sales picking.  So I decided on monday I'd try and sell this weekend as most people in our area were getting paid friday the 29th.  However, like many others we saw record temps friday with forcast of even hotter temps Saturday.  So I debated about going to the flea or not.  Instead, I took a page out of our regular posters here.  My friend has a thrift store that I've helped out at, sold a few things to/thru, etc.  I asked them if they would mind me setting up Saturday as a yard sale in the corner of the parking area.  She said sure - so I gave them $15 and wrote up a contract to cover them in case the tax man came around.  Wanted to make it clear there was a distenction between the store / my stuff.  Figure if there was no customers or just very slow I could duck into the store to cool off.  No AC really but they have a portable unit that works great.  As it turns out I and the store were very busy.  I have many items the store didn't and even brought in people who had not stopped at the store before.  My only advertisement was a CL post at 8 or so friday night.  After expenses I made $390, daughter $51, and then another $40 in shared sales w/ the store (my items they sell and we split 50/50).  So it was a great if extremely hot day.

If they go for it again I may just pick one weekend a month and sell at the thrift of Saturday and flea on Sunday.  I made a bunch more at the thrift.  Don't know if it was just the certain items I had or what.  I do know some of it was due to less competetion.  Even sold many items that had not sold at the flea.

Hey Craig that is great.

What we had for a little while. Think we can go for it again. The thrift has gotten somethings worked out so we can once again have a once a month yard sale.

After our first one there we did more back and forth business. So it is great everybody makes money.

Think we are going to try this coming Saturday.  Have all the low end stuff and just need to get rid of it.

I have also been doing some much needed clean out. Hoping the life things are getting sorted out and can get back into the game sooooooon.  But I do realize these are tough times selling in our area this time of year, but will give it a shot.

Glad you have hooked up with a thrift it sure does help having that retail outlet.

From the sound of how well your daughter is doing you might want to get a contract with her, :LOL

Lol money - I done told her I may either have to start bidding against her or I'll just hand over my wallet and let her spend my money.......like she don't already.

If she keeps this up I'm going to start charging her for gas, dump fees, and selling fees.  Her reply was "well you were already here/doing that".

I love the thrift.  Can sell some of the furniture that I get.  I don't go out of my way to get furniture but at least now I have an outlet that I can trust.

Glad to hear you can start doing it again yourself.  Location is everything.

You forgot labor. LOL   Love her reply.    ;D

Like reading your post about you and her. Nice to see a kid that wants to spend time with dear old DAD.  ;)

At least she is making money and not spending it.  :D

Yeah I hope we can unload some stuff, but it maybe really slow until after August  ::)
